Play me a track and I can fit it into a category somewhere. They all have little staples and isms.
Would anyone else agree with you though? Would my kids, winding back to when they were 15, agree with you? Or would they fix you with that whithering stare that says you can never, ever even begin to understand our tribal structure, let alone join in.

I think the difference in feel is greater than the difference in sound. I found Chromes very hard, just didn't like them. TIs are ok, but I don't think they're worth paying extra for. I've got Rotos, GHS Precisions and TIs on various of my current basses, and I don't really notice any difference moving between them.

I suffered this when the kids were teenagers. I concluded it was tribal rather than musical, a way of separating out a bunch of bands which it was ok to like in a particular group of their friends. Emo seemed to be the bin for everything no one liked - and I understood the description, but whenever I said "So, is this Emo?", it never was.

agreeing a sale on ebay before the auction ends
spinynorman replied to PaulWarning's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I really don't feel under any obligation to people who haven't bid yet, whether they're watching or not. I quite often watch things just to see whether it sells and how much for. -
I've a 58 Beta which, to my ears, is streets ahead of the SM58. Less low mud, more sparkle and clarity. I've also got a 25 quid Behringer mic which also sounds better to me than a SM58 and seems less prone to feedback, although I doubt it'll be as reliable in the long term.
I've got a Behringer SM58 look-alike, which I bought for a party where we had some guest singers, and it's still going strong 7 years later.

I can't see why an instrument made in one country should be any better or worse than one made in another. Provided the materials are the same quality, the investment has been put into the factory and the quality control is right, why would a US or Japanese worker be better at operating a CNC machine than a Korean or Chinese? The Japs in the 60s set out to make cheap copies of US-made instruments. Once that stopped being the objective the quality improved. Now it's just marketing, with US-based manufacturers putting better components into US-made instruments and charging a premium. I'm not sure how they get away with it; you don't see Apple putting out US-made iPads at a higher price.

Based on the responses I've had from eBay support through email, I've never thought it would be worth phoning them. -
Rolson Helping Hand - holding small parts for solder etc

It arrived Saturday, much quicker than Amazon estimate. Seems pretty good quality, reasonably stable base. I've taken the magnifier off, I think my reading glasses are good enough for anything I'll be doing. -

agreeing a sale on ebay before the auction ends
spinynorman replied to PaulWarning's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I'm sure there used to be a way you could end an auction and then set up a BIN just for one user, but can't find it now and eBay support are no help. You can end an auction and sell to the highest bidder, but that doesn't help much. So having tried to "do it right" I feel no guilt about going off eBay, and I agree with danhkr, so long as neither party complains, eBay just sees an early ending auction. If you did it a lot they might start to wonder, as it's supposed to be an exception. I only do it if the other party has good feedback, otherwise you're asking for trouble. -
I remember a recent thread someone mentioned Aldi selling something like this cheap. Just seen on Amazon, reduced to £2.65 with free super slow delivery. I've ordered one, not due to arrive till next week though. Thought someone else here might be interested. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001BMSBD4/ref=pe_217191_31005151_dp_1

I have a pair of black steel PA speaker stands. They're 110cm collapsed, 195cm maximum extension. Cosmetically they have some scratches and have suffered from having red gaffer tape round one of the legs, though I'll try to clean that off. One of the rubber feet is missing. The only label on these is Samil, but I don't have more details or spec. They are strong and robust, and have been holding up Mackie C300z speakers with no problem. I'll suggest £30 for the pair, but will listen to offers. Delivery can be arranged at extra cost, or collect from near Stratford on Avon. Any questions, please ask. I'll put pictures up if anyone needs them.
I have a CASIO watch. Not sure about ASIO ... Are they related?
Ha ha! Now you're going to tell me you've got a Mac and you don't have to worry about all this ASIO rubbish. While clearing out some junk our son left behind, I found a Casio Digital Diary, which I think must have been mine originally. I checked them out on eBay and to my surprise found they come up regularly and usually fetch about £10. I also still have one of the early Casio "pocket" calculators, and still use it. The keypad on it is way better than anything I had later. So, having hijacked my own thread, I'll go back to my ASIO problem. I never had this trouble with a succession of old Thinkpads with XP, only since I "upgraded" to Windows 7 on an HP Pavilion with SRS Premium Sound.

Thanks, that's the conclusion I'm coming to. It sucks, but at least it's not something I'm doing wrong.

I'm not generally recording, mostly just playing along to audio tracks for practice. But the principles are the same. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit. I've tried a Line6 Toneport UX1 as an interface, but didn't get on with it for various reasons and it's gone. What I have now is a Lindy USB interface cable and either the free versions of Amplitube or NI Guitar Rig 5, with ASIO4ALL. This works OK for playing along with mp3s, because both amp programs have embedded mp3 players, though they wouldn't be my first choice. The problem comes playing along to anything else, such as Best Practice, or Youtube, or a separate music player. Anything outside the program that's using ASIO4ALL either doesn't play or comes through the laptop speakers, not the headphones. I found a multi-ASIO server program on the Steinberg site, but using that Amplitube hangs and it doesn't see Guitar Rig at all. Also found an open source project call Jack that seems like it might solve the problem if it worked, but it loads with a stream of error messages. ASIO4ALL manual doesn't help either. Has anyone found a solution to using ASIO4ALL with multiple audio sources?

I've got a SoundLab Transparent Smoke Machine, which I bought on the assumption our band would do parties from time to time, but for one reason or another this hasn't happened. It's 700W, 1 litre capacity. I've still got the box and the manual remote. I've also got a timed remote, which is great because you can set it up and leave it to puff away all night. There's also a 5L container of smoke fluid only a small amount of which has been used, which I can't post, so it would all need to be collected. I'm near Stratford upon Avon, 30 mins from J15 on M40. Price is £20. This is now sold.
I also had the same problem with the bridge setting, I ended up having to shim the neck.
I hope you dropped the bridge height first as a safety precaution against making major blunders. -
I never get to talk to anyone after a gig because I start taking the PA down straight away. This is because of one time when I didn't, the singer packed the amp in its bag with all the speakers and mics still attached by their leads, and was about to walk off with it when I screamed at him to stop.

Almost had everything, where to go next?

You really don't want to settle down. I've done that, entirely by accident, and its quite depressing. -
Supertone looks good on there, and I don't usually like them.

With the Bactrack if anything I'm getting too much bass, it's some of the cymbals that sound thin.
