I'm sure it's a sound design, it just looks a bit worrying and illogical. I still want a JC though.
It looks worse on a JC because of the contour of the body. On a flat solid body there's much less of the up on stilts look.
I can! 'But the audience loved it' 'He was bringing people to live music who may go on to see other live bands' 'The venue wasn't big enough for a guitarist/singer who actually played guitar and sang' ..... shall I continue?
Is anyone taking that position for miming? I'm certainly not. Performing to a backing tape isn't great, but it is honest, there's no deception involved. Miming, trying to look like you're performing when you're not, is basically dishonest, and, no, it isn't like acting. I know it happens all the time on TV and I still don't like it. It's quite amusing to see a clip of Jack Casady playing with a toy frog hanging across the fretboard, because he's miming, but I'd rather he hadn't done it.
I recently attended our local country music club (there I've said it - now I feel so dirty) and they had a solo 'artist' appearing. He had an acoustic guitar and backing tracks. As he 'played' I watched his fingers - whatever the key, this guy just made random A, D and E chords. The acoustic on the BTs sounded great, but it wasn't him! He just muted the guitar while he was 'playing'. Now that's [s]show business[/s] FRAUD!
That's terrible. I can't think of any possible justification for it.

I had years of owning 2-3 basses, of which at least one was generally under notice to quit. Now I've got four, to which I have some sort of sentimental and/or practical attachment, and, though I keep looking, I don't see anything that interests me enough to spend money on. I actually find that unsettling, even a bit depressing. I suppose part of the fun was having something new turn up and seeing if it was any good. Probably why I don't subscribe to the "play it before you buy" mentality.

They spoilt it for me by putting "(musically speaking)" after "tight".

So is there a pattern coming here, like all those World War I & II anniversaries? Who will decide what merits an anniversary and what gets consigned to the remainder bin of history for a second time? -
So, Mozart goes to the Sistine Chapel to hear Allegri's Miserere, for which only three authorised scores existed, all in private hands, and none very accurate. Mozart goes home and writes it out from memory. Later he meets John Burney, who takes a copy to London and publishes it. Subsequently several other people have a go at creating even more complete transcriptions. This is a) jolly good, exactly how music should evolve collaboratively b_) gross copyright infringement, every copy should be hunted down and burned c) hardly comparable with some rubbish tab on the Internet d) probably apocrophal and anyway the Pope forgave Mozart afterwards, so that makes it ok. Discuss. I'll be in the bar.

It wouldn't be so bad if you could rely on the official books. I used to play with a pianist who always came with his glossy music books and often they were wrong, to the point of missing out whole sections. In the industry there may be a belief that most tab is actually copied from the official books. I think that may be true for a lot of Guitar Pro tab, probably not for the text stuff.
No, but it does make it crap. But why do people have a problem if I call it as I see it? Infinite tolerance of mediocrity and the uninspired is what makes 'live music' a dubious attraction for many.
I don't have a problem with it. All I would say is that, while I agree with you 100% in principle, when I've been forced into a situation where I've had to sit through a performance backed by a tape, it sometimes wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Usually because the performer had some quality that rose above the environment. A good singer with a backing tape might be less mediocre than a poor singer with a band. Miming is a bit different. In most cases I think punters don't realise that's happening unless something goes wrong, in which case they feel cheated. There were any number of performers who either refused to mime on TOTP or made it so obvious that's what they were doing that the Beeb had to stop doing it. It's possible there are some situations where you can't avoid it, like the Olympics ceremonies, but even then I don't like it. So how do you feel about opera singers using microphones.
... and those extremely shocking collarless jackets Oh yes, I know the drill. The Shadows? How can an artist with "The" as part of the name be acceptable, I ask you! Bach didn't have any "The"! (annoying twat when he was between 6 and 10 years old) best, bert
On the other hand "The" Berlin Philharmonic is still going strong, so I think it's acceptable for an ensemble. Bach was a genius, he can put anything he likes in his name. We had a kid like you at school. I think I was the only one that didn't beat him up. -
+1 on the house on stilts comparison. I played a lovely Jack Casady bass today, but the bridge design alarms me, It's about an inch away from the body. Didn't seem to have any negative effect on the tone, but it just seems daft to me to isolate the bridge from the body in such a way. Mind you, this is coming from someone who is perfectly happy with the traditional 'BBOT'.
When I got my Jack Casady the bridge was up at an alarming height, but I found I could get it down quite a lot. I'm no engineer, but I would guess those huge studs driven right into the wood would more than compensate for lack of other contact.
Oh boy! Then It Was 50 Years Ago Today! (Well, In A Couple Of Weeks) that I tried to get the grown-ups to understand that they shouldn't listen to that simplistic Beatles music, and that they rather should concentrate on Bach, Beethoven and Brahms,
Wasn't it supposed to be the grown ups telling you not to listen to those scruffy long haired yobs, and anyway, what are they singing about, you can't hear the words and it's too loud and why don't they learn to play proper instruments. At the time I think I prefered The Shadows. And I had an EP by The Spotniks. -
I've got three 3-points to 1 BBOT. I can see if you're a compulsive tinkerer or regularly break strings the 3-point could be a problem, but I'm not and I don't. They were set up with flats when i got them, and I've pretty much forgotten about them since. No problem playing with a pick, but if it was, fit a bridge cover. The E string saddle on the BBOT occasionally collapses without warning, and that's a real pain, as it's under a bridge cover.

One of the many things I like about Basschat is there's none of the "I'm a Platinum Contributing Member, look at me!" nonsense you get on some other sites. But, yes, it does mean we need to remember to hit the donate button every so often.

During the Jubilee weekend I got dragged into a pub which had a girl singer with a laptop and one active speaker. We've played there in the past, but it really is too small for a band, and they get hassle from neighbours and the council about the noise. The girl was a good singer, used the mic well, moved well, looked the part and engaged with the punters without being overbearing. It's not something I'd want a lot of, but if it helps the pub stay in business, I don't see a problem. At the other end of the scale, I went to a "Black Country Night Out" where a BT girl was singing songs not obviously Black Country in origin, but aimed at the baby-boom-after-WW1 generation. Early on she said she was going to sing something for everyone, and I really wanted to shout out "Can you do some Rage Against the Machine for me, love?" but I bit my tongue. Almost off.

Just rediscovered Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte studio and some live versions. Very prog, but some nice tunes and wonderfully strong bass on the live archive cds. -
Well I was going to write my phd in quantum physics, but I couldn't get my pencil sharpener to work.
Are you sure you're not a violinist? Trying to blame your unwritten phd on a pencil sharpener. -
I think the issue is something about 'passing off' a product in such a way as it would confuse the average public (whatever that means). So, if I built, say, an "Ampog" combo and made it physically look very similar to an Ampeg combo then I could reasonably be challenged as 'passing off' my combo for an Ampeg one - i.e. confusing the public. But if I built an amp sim in, say, a pedal box and it sounded EXACTLY like an Ampeg combo then it would be hard for Ampeg to claim the product would cause confusion, even if the two things sounded the same.
Where they seem to be doing a very good job of confusing the general public is the application of IP law.
probably neither - google street view shows a black door for numbers 217 and 219 with entry buzzers (unfortunately pic too small to read any detail) companies house website does not have any listing of IMD DIGITAL LTD so i guess they may be in breach of the Companys Act by publicly declaring themselves a limited company when they would appear not to be
FWIW the address given is used by several companies and is likely to be the office of an accountant or solicitor. There's nothing wrong with this, it's quite often done by very small companies that don't have their own office premises. There's a company registration for IMD Trading Ltd, which is the legitimate company that trades bathroom fittings on eBay. One of the previous names they used was IMD Digital, but they changed it in Nov 2011. The website, as we were told in post #15, had nothing to do with the owners of IMD Trading or IMD Digital. By the look of the classified ads so called IMD_Digital is posting all over the world, they're targeting people outside the UK who wouldn't find it so easy to check up on them.
