That link looks very complicated for something that's quite simple. All you need is something solid, like a small bolt for example, that you can drop down inside the bushing. It needs to be about half as long as the depth of the hole. Then screw the Epi bridge screw into the bushing. When the screw reaches whatever it is you dropped in the hole, keep turning and it will start to leaver the bushing out. Once it's out as far as it will go with the screw you should be able to pull it the rest of the way. Only thing to watch is the earth wire for the bridge is fed through a small hole and trapped up against the bushing on the control cavity side of the bridge. The wire is very thin and easy to break, plus if you're installing a different bridge, you'll need to reroute the earth wire.

Going right back, there's "Long Legged Baby" by the Graham Bond Organisation. At 0:57 in this clip you get a good look at the guy who's singing "It was early one morning, I was on my way to school." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MInI4CZO5NY

After my wife threatened divorce if our 50-something bloke band played "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl", I wondered if there are other songs we can't play any more? The argument that it's a great riff cut no ice.

In researching authenticity in popular music, you could do worse than read "Escaping the Delta", by Elijah Wald. There's nothing more authentic than the blues, right? No one more authentically blues roots than Robert Johnson? Well, maybe not. http://www.elijahwald.com/rjohnson.html

I recognise this - but what is it?
Thanks for all your help people Yeah I was thinking along the Vantage or SD Curlee lines. Kay eh? Well, I'm in now but I won't push it too far then.
How far did you push? It went pretty much the right price. I had one, Korean made Kay. Changed the bridge and put a Dimarzio P/J set in it and it was very good, but not likely to make other bass players faint with envy. -
I've got an M-Audio FastTrack USB which came with ProTools Essentials. What I've found is there's no bass guitar volume worth speaking of unless you use an amp or preamp between the bass and the FastTrack. I since looked at reviews on Amazon and it's a common complaint. I've also used it with Audacity and it makes no difference. I'm now looking for a bass to PC soundcard interface that actually works.
-
I have put a Behringer Mic100 in front of the FastTrack and it works, though it does add noise. It also doesn't have a power switch, so it's always on, whether I'm using it or not. I've also taken a line out from a practice combo, which is ok, but I really wanted to get rid of that and free up the space. Long ago I had a VAmp, which was fun, but I spent so much time playing with the settings I never did any practice. So amp models or effects units are out. I suppose I'm just very disappointed with the FastTrack. What I envisage is a bass amp head with a headphone socket and USB interface, but I doubt such a thing exists.

I've got a 3" Planet Waves poly strap, which is about the same price on Amazon as the Levys one. I tried it on my Epi JC and was surprised that it holds the neck up well. I was expecting it to slip, but it doesn't.

Led zeppelin and black sabbath just dont do anything for me !
spinynorman replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
Due to this thread, I wasted 2 hours of valuable time I won't get back trying to track down the first time I saw Black Sabbath, which it turns out was the "Extravaganza 70" at Olympia in London in early June 1970. I remember thinking BS were just loud and not being that impressed. But earlier in the week I'd been blown away by Jon Hiseman and Colosseum and that was a hard act to follow. I've spent the last xx years under the illusion I also saw The Nice that week, but according to the interweb they'd broken up by then and it must have been Jackson Heights. Don't remember any knives being thrown, so that's probably right. Anyone else see BS that far back? -
I used to have a Thinkpad and just plugged the bass straight into the mic/line input to the soundcard, which was fine for playing along with mp3s, though not so good for the rare times I wanted to record. Then I bought an HP laptop and plugging straight in doesn't work well at all. So I bought an M-Audio FastTrack with PCTools. It all installed ok, but even with everything turned up max there's very little volume from the bass. To get round it I'm using a Behringer mic preamp I had lying around, but I'd really like to keep the number of boxes and leads to a minimum. Any suggestions for alternatives, preferably not mega expensive (up to £100 would be ok)? Or am I doing something wrong with the FastTrack?
Don't worry, John. In truth, nobady here gives a rat's a*** what anyone else thinks about the bands they like. Its all done in good humour.
In which case it's a puzzle why people start these threads. Is it just to provoke a good humoured fight between those who are quite passionate about their opinions and really can't understand how anyone else could disagree, while the rest of us watch with detached amusement? Or is it a cry for help? If all you've heard of Led Zep is Stairway and the drivel about elves, or 20 minutes of Kashmir being relentlessly ground to death, perhaps a pointer to Gallows Pole or In the Evening would be a kind of social service. -

My Crate BT50 is becoming surplus to requirements. It is an astoundingly good amp for private practice, practice with others and even gigs in small places. I bought it when I had a separate head/cab rig to avoid dragging all that stuff to practice and it is more than loud enough to fend off a large drum kit and guitarist. I took it to a gig in a small pub and actually had bass players coming up astonished that such a small combo could sound so good. It's 50W with a 12" driver. 4 band Eq and variable octaver, which works well. Headphone jack and CD/mp3 input (phono). Built in tuner on the top. Can be connected to an internal speaker, but this disconnects the internal one, so not sure why you'd want to. It also has a switchable distortion channel, with gain, shape and level controls. Without a footswitch you can have one channel or the other and the distortion isn't good. With a footswitch you can blend the clean and distortion channels, which is better, but I still never used it. I'll include a generic latching footswitch that does the job. Covering is black carpet, with a plastic handle on the top. It's in good cosmetic condition and fully working. Price is £80 and you're welcome to collect from Warwickshire, near Stratford on Avon, about 30 mins from J15 on the M40. Or I will courier, but that will cost £25.
Doubt it...more likely that it is conditional on getting a license if there have been complaints/issues
I know of one pub that was visited by the noise police who fitted a limiter, after a complaint. So I assumed it was always a punishment.

Do venues really volunteer for these things? I thought they were something Environmental Health installed after the neighbours complain.

Well, I only use leads made from finest polyesterimide insulated silver wire covered in flax woven from the hair of virgins from a remote village in Italy. Some of which was curly.
I don't care what anyone says or how expensive they are curly cables are not a good thing, unless they can literally defy the law of physics. In which case they are the work of the devil.
Yes. It's like an on-off switch on a mic, just yells "cheap!!!!!!!!"

How do you tell Japanese pickups from US ones on MIJ basses?
Something similar in BGM this month. Norman W-R is talking about getting a Bass made with a 45 year old piece of wood and the luthier using hide glue from way back when. He then says 90% of his sound comes from his fingers.......
He obviously has very loud fingers.
The body is marked 'oil' and '30/4' under the bridge so I can confirm the original as an oil finish and assume April 30th. The EMG's are USA-made and dated 15/03/2003 so I take it that the date of manufacture between 2003 and 2008 although the dot inlays place this to be around 2004/2005. Can anyone confirm or dispute this??
I'd take it from the Spector discontinued Europe models page that it's 2002-2004, second picture down, Rebop5. http://www.spectorbass.com/about/model_years_4E.html Also there's advice on cleaning oiled finishes, they mention Butcher's Wax, which I worked out was the US equivalent of Briwax. Always worth contacting Spector direct for advice, many people get replies from Stuart himself, even on basses they bought used, and not just the premium US models. http://www.spectorbass.com/support/cleaning.html

All I ever did with mine was a rub with a rag and some Briwax and polish it off with a dry cloth. It is possible the only beneficial effect of this was in my imagination, but it kept me happy.

Eggle berlin with free amp
spinynorman replied to wrinkleygit's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I had one of the original Berlins in red, allegedly one used for the catalogue pics. It was a stunning guitar and I only reluctantly sold it when I switched to bass and it wasn't getting used any more. When I bought it (secondhand) it was so far ahead of anything else in the shop at the price, incredibly undervalued.
