1. All sent out on Saturday, hopefully the right bits to the right people.
2. Building Rock Bass Lines by Ed Friedland with CD, as new condition. £5 posted. Progressive Bass Guitar by Gary Turner and Brenton White with fingering chart. Some pages loose and discoloured on edges. Should have a CD, but I can't find it, so assume there won't be one. £3 posted.
3. Hondo with Kiss scribble. 4.
Here's one that shrank in the wash. 6.
Wanna bet? J.
The Triumph copy went for £185. Considering it needed work on the frets and ideally a bridge cover, that seems a bit steep.
7. Bump and pics for the MIJ Precision bridge.
8.
Here's one that shrank in the wash. At least the colours didn't run.
It's rare, though, you'll never find that in a car boot sale for 20 quid.
9. Forget the bass, I'm a sucker for blue hair and white boots.
10.
There's only the one pic on the listing & none of the info you mention - has the seller sent you additional pics? If he has, could you stick 'em on here? <snip> I have been watching this but doubt I'll bid - the combination of zero-feedback, one rubbish picture & arserape postage ain't doing it for me. J.
I asked the same question on the Outpost (http://bassoutpost.com/index.php?topic=1870.0) with some additional pics, + the reply is interesting, from someone who has one like it. I remember when he first got it he seemed quite pleased with it, but from his second reply to me it doesn't sound so good. Also, as you say, just because this one looks the same, doesn't mean it is. I can't see any sign of a Y on the heel for a start. The seller seems ok, more than willing to send pictures. Postage is steep indeed, but then it might not go for much.
11. Soundslive customer service is good. My one encounter with technical support wasn't.
12.
hiya, can i have 2 & 4 please? i will still give you the postage if you really want it! dan
That's ok, just send me a PM with your address and they're yours.
13.
Ooh, can I get 5? It would finish off my guitar I made.
Ditto, just PM the address.
14.
Can i take 1 and 3 please?
All yours, PM me your address. On second thoughts I can't be bothered with collecting postage charges, spend it on something worthwhile, like beer.
15. All PMs now replied to and the Rock-It's gone.
16. Any ideas on this Les Paul Triumph copy? Bolt on neck with 6 screw fixing, nothing on neck plate, open book headstock with plain diamond inlay. I found a picture of an almost identical guitar badged Franpton, but a scan of their catalogue shows the guitar, but no bass version. Franpton had something to do with Pearl I think.
17. More stuff from the Man Drawer, but I can't justify charging for these ... 1) GONE Fender 7250-5M Nickel Roundwound 5-string set .045/.065/.085/.105/.125 - these have been on an MIM Fender Jazz V and are long scale. Black silks, some a bit scruffy. They were on for about 2 months and not played a lot, so should have plenty of life. 2) GONE Unknown 5-string roundwound set - came off a 2003 Spector Rebop 5 and could be the original strings for all I know. No silks, black ball ends - if you like your rounds well used, these are for you. 3) GONE Unknown 4-string roundwound set - I think these were off an MIJ P, no silks, brass colour ball ends, good length for long scale bass, of unknown age. 4) GONE Mixed bag of Rotosound Jazz 77 long scale flats. 2x.085 (A), 2x.105 (E), 1x.130 (low B ). Silks are scruffy and ends look short, through I had these installed on the Jazz V and they held ok. Just £1.50 contribution to p&p on each set 5) GONE One plastic and one metal guitar size humbucker pickup rings in black. Metal one has fixing screws. Free to good home.
18.
Fancy a p/x on the Soundcard for my (here it comes!) Jim Dunlop 105q Bass Wah?
Sorry, not an effects user at all. Bit of a luddite all round.
19. Just about to reply to several PMs. Some were requesting pics, so here for public consumption ... The 7-hole string-thru bridge (the 5 holes at the back are in standard Fender spacing). The Kensington FM Transmitter
20. There's a lot of things in my Man Drawer that really ought to go to someone who will use them ... STILL AVAILABLE!!!!! 4) Soundblaster Audigy 2 NX external sound card - connects to laptop via USB, provides input for mic and line, and has outputs for headphone and surround sound speakers. Complete with power supply, cables and remote. Review http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/audio/...39146641,00.htm. [s]£45[/s] £40 posted. SOLD, either gone or pending 1) Aguilar OBP-1 preamp - 18V (needs 2 batteries), treble and bass boost only. Includes 2 x 25K mini tone pots. This has been in my Spector Rebop 5, till I realised I just don't like active. Wires have soldered ends, but have not been cut. Bought from BestBassGear.com for $99 + shipping from the US. Asking £45 incl postage. [SOLD] 2) 5-string Jazz pickup set, taken from MIM Fender Jazz 5. Output 5.09 (bridge) and 4.96 (neck). £[s]20[/s] £15 posted.[SOLD] 3) Pocket Rock-It [SOLD] 5) Kensington FM transmitter - plugs into car lighter socket and broadcasts mp3 player to your car radio, via stereo mini jack. This is universal, not the iPod specific version. The sound quality is pretty good and there's a wide channel range - outside London I found it worked well, closer you get to London the harder it is to find a clear channel. £6 posted. [SOLD] 6) Fenderish 4-string chrome bridge. 5 fixing holes at the back, 2 at the front and holes for string through body. Fixing screws included. Saddle adjustment requires allen key (not included). As new condition (see pics) £5 posted. [SOLD] 7) [NEW] Chrome bridge from '89 MIJ Fender Precision, with screws. Well used condition, see pics. £5 posted. [SOLD] All prices assume postage to mainland UK.
21. I've got Roto Jazz flats on an MIJ Fender Jazz V. They sound and feel ok to me, though the B feels quite low tension. Also got La Bella flats on a Spector Rebop 5, which is 35" scale. The B is very good, nice dark tone and taught. Unplugged the E sounds dead compared to the other strings and isn't as shiny. It plays ok amplified though.
22.
I reproduce the following from Barry Chinstroker's seminal publication "Guide to British Blues Bass Playing" (Hi! Tone Publishing, 1995): "....New-boy bluesers soon discover that a 'bells and whistles' 5-string bass is a major solecism (or 'faux-pas' as our Jazzbo friends might say). In 1978, well-known Chicago bassist Eddie 'Po'Boy' Sandwich turned up for a gig toting one such instrument. Bandleader, Howling Lemon Balsam shot him dead on the spot and the audience ripped his bleeding corpse to shreds before dining on his vital organs. It should be noted that British 'blues buffs' show far less restraint. ....The ideal bass tone should resemble the sound of a large, empty wooden box being struck by a good-sized possum. "
23.
QUOTE (niceguyhomer @ Jan 29 2009, 07:18 PM) * Spectors no good then? As long as you don't mind assisting the Blues Police with their enquiries.
I've played blues on my Rebop 5 and didn't get my collar felt. Although, having removed the pre-amp, wired it passive and strung it with La Bella flats, it's the Spector Police I'm more worried about.
24. For bass, Tommy Shannon with Johnny Winter (Second Coming) and with Stevie Ray Vaughan. For blues generally, Elmore James, Buddy Guy, all those Kings, Gary Moore ("Blues for Greeny" and the live CD of "Best of the Blues"). +1 on Fleetwood Mac's "Need Your Love So Bad", nice understated bass and great timing. For fun, Leslie West's "Stormy Monday" on "Guitarded". And check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqAuuIDU2sw The hard bit is not playing the same bassline for every song
25. Perception definitely lags reality by a long way. I had a Vester, one of the generic inhouse designs rather than a Fender copy. It was very well made, even the electronics were decent and the only thing I couldn't get on with was the narrow neck. But when I sold it, I couldn't even get £100 for it.
