Satin is IMO "faster" and easier to play than gloss but doesn't look as nice. The american standard will also have "rolled edges" which again, IMO is nicer. If you want to go even thinner than an american standard then you could go for an american special (my favourite bass neck).
I think all modern Fenders are far nicer to play on than vintage ones, which is what they are going for. Try some out at a store and you'll see what I mean .

is to an actual 70's neck but it has a "C" shape instead of a modern "C" shape. Could it be the same? I don't know. Gloss finish too. The 70's series are made in Japan. Looks very unique too, I like it.
