I've wondered for a little while how an Ashdown LB30 would sound with a non-tweeter Super 12; given the cab's sensitivity it may be giggable - would be interested to see if anyone's tried this.

Sean Malone (Cynic) Playthrough Video
Graham replied to Steve Woodcock's topic in General Discussion
That's great, I really like Cynic, managed to catch them on the reunion tour in (I think) 2007, unfortunately Malone wasn't on bass then - though whoever it was, was very capable. Thinking about it, if you're in Linear Sphere I'd have seen you supporting them? Was somewhere in Camden, forget the venue name. The note choice and technique in that video is exemplary, I loved the runs and chords he was playing, so tasteful and really served the song. -
A mate of mine is moving back to Canada in a couple of weeks and his guitarist there has bought one of these, in this finish, for him to play - more than a wee bit jealous.
No , passive.
That's good, really not a fan of active, picked up my old Squier P the other day from my parents, been thinking about doing it up, so that would be high on my list of pickup options.
One of the conditions in the OP was 'not a Warwick', but thanks anyway. Perhaps you can help me, though - how do you actually pronounce '$$' ? Cash? Dollars? ...What?
Double buck

Are the Butler EMGs active?

Odd Question Lakland bridge replaced with a badass??
Graham replied to krispn's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm really happy with my DD p bass (with added j pick up)
Glad it's still working well for you chief :-) -
There's a Dean 8 string Rhapsody on one of the Facebook selling pages recently, it's the one where Col (Buzzardist) of these parts is an admin - The Great UK Bass Guitar Gear Exchange. The guy is after £500 for it, but the last sale fell through so he's probably open to negotiation.

I can certainly sympathise, I wake up most mornings to the sound of my five year old singing different songs from it, more or less in tune. On a decent stereo though, the bass on this comes through nicely :-)

16 month later thread resurrection Anyone else's kids been treating them to repeat viewings of Frozen recently? The bass in this is pretty cool. http://youtu.be/j6nnoWgbdvg

First 'classical' gig on electric bass!! A valuable learning point!
Graham replied to Bilbo's topic in General Discussion
This might make you feel better, Dave Mustaine of Megadeth playing with the the San Diego Symphony Orchestra recently.........he's played better http://youtu.be/6sHwxjkGQcU -
You should be fine with a generic hardcase, get yourself a Hiscox Light Flite and you'll be happy.

Last night was great, played at The Red Cross Inn at Reigate, place was busy with a youngish crowd and what I think were a number of rugby boys in suits celebrating their end of season. Crowd were into it from the first song and very appreciative, had some wedding interest as well which is always good. Landlord was happy and wants us back for several more gigs, we played really well and the new songs went down great, so all in all we had a blast. Also, changed my strings the other day ahead of this gig, gave those D'Addario balanced tension sets a go and was pretty impressed with them, I liked the feel and sound so at that price I can't fault them.

Ray 34 or a Sandberg Basic are the two that jump most readily to mind, not sure on the neck profiles of those though. You should be able to pick them up with that budget, but it would be at the top end of the budget.
-
I'd imagine Lull would make a through/set neck version if you wanted; you'd probably be into serious money there though.
*GRIN* All gibson need to do for me, is to make a 5-string thunderbird with 60s pickups under chrome covers and a two piece bridge, and I might just forgive them for Opcode and buy one.
I think Mike Lull may have heard you [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/T5Front590_zpsqoyxcafs.jpeg" class="ipsImage" />

Fairly odd one in a social club last night, very muted reaction for almost the whole night but did manage to get a few dancers up on a few songs in the third (last) set. The events organiser did say at the end that everyone had really enjoyed it and wanted us back. He also said it is very hard to get their members dancing and only one other band, who played ska covers had ever got people dancing which was gratifying. He then gave us a booking for the Saturday before Christmas for more money on the spot.

Probably right on that. In all honesty, the closest I'd get to a Butler model would be a black Skyline Bob Glaub with one of his signature EMGs in it, a USA Lakland is far beyond my means. Also, to be fair, my G&L SB2 isn't that far away from his tone.
I think the production model is nicer! You get a matching black headstock, and there are more inlays on the fingerboard on the production version . Geezer's prototype is a bit more basic. I'm sure they would build you one like that if you asked them , if that is what you wanted. The only thing they won't do is the Sabbath angel inlay, because it's a registered trademark and they don't have permission to use it.
That's what I liked about it, I loved the Sabbath angel inlay at the 5th fret, fairly subtle but looked great; shame they didn't get permission to use it, given the cost of a USA Lakland, it can't have been a massive percentage cost increase. I've never been wild about matching headstocks either, prefer the contrast of the bare wood :-)

Cracking video, thanks for posting. That prototype signature Precision is far more attractive than the one you can actually buy.

Bump for the weekend, off to Edenbridge in the garden of England tomorrow night.

This: [Img]http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/Ghost_Upon_The_Stage/Mobile%20Uploads/T5Front590_zpsqoyxcafs.jpeg" class="ipsImage" /> And an Ashdown CTM300 and Barefaced '69er to go with it. Oh, and a doom band to play it in. Also, in a more practicable, but no more feasable vein, a Demeter Minnie and Barefaced Super Compact.
