I rather like that, has a Gibson look about it. For that money though, I'd just get Jon Shuker or someone to make me one that looked like it, with my choice of electronics and neck profile, for I'd imagine a fair bit less money ($4k is about £2.5k at today's exchange rate)

thinking of selling my Hartke and trying Genz Benz
Graham replied to clashcityrocker's topic in Amps and Cabs
Maybe try a change of cab if weight isn't the main factor in your decision? I found Ampeg cabs worked particularly well with Hartke heads. -
Enjoying the responses here guys :-D I'm currently rocking a Gen 1 Compact that I like the sound of, I think a Super Compact would suit me better, but I'd have to borrow money to buy one. When you deduct the value of my Gen 1 that I could sell once the Super version arrives would make it affordable. My current cab is residing in the bottom of the airing cupboard to keep it out of the childrens way, it will be moving into the bedroom at some point, but we've only been in the house two weeks so need to make some more space in the bedroom. I had considered "enlarging" the cupboard, but as it's a rented house it's more surgery than I'd be comfortable with, lol. I like the idea of the improved tone and reduced footprint of the new version but can't justify to myself spending money to achieve those things when there's nothing actually wrong with what I've got :-) I may start saving the money I would have spent on repayments each month though and see where that takes me.

Would you pay a small fee - to try out a bass/guitar?
Graham replied to Big_Stu's topic in General Discussion
If it was somewhere like Bass Direct where I could have access to a large variety of, often esoteric brands with someone like Mark who has the knowledge of different brands to be able to steer me in the right direction from my vague descriptions of tone then I wouldn't object to maybe paying £20 for an hour's time. I have to factor in the cost of transport to places like Bass Direct or The Gallery anyway so factoring in another cost wouldn't be the end of the world and would go some way to the cost of re-stringing demo instruments after sufficient people have got their hands on them. Last trip I took to Bass Direct I knew I had no intention of buying a bass, but wanted to try some out and then look for a used version, I spent about an hour or so there and played about £16k's worth of instruments, if I had to pay for that experience I think it would both be fair and wouldn't put me off. I did buy some strings whilst I was there though, mostly so I didn't feel too guilty about the experience. -
If it's out of sight, she'll never know ... ;-)
You make a compelling point, lol. Could someone who has a Super Compact do me a favour and measure all the dimensions including the feet and handle please? If you have a Roqsolid on it, all the better. Thanks very much.

No, you don't. Despite the somewhat limited tonal pallet of your current bass, I'd wager it can do most of what you want with EQ tweaks - if it feels good, then I's stick with it. What sort of tones are you after that you currently can't get?

I’ve been trying to sell some pickups and a scratchplate for a few months, without much success, and as they’re fairly low value I was considering giving them away to someone who might want them. I then had the idea that if other people were in a similar position where they had low value bass stuff they don’t need, but can’t be bothered to sell, maybe we could raffle it off for charity? Kind of things I’m thinking are pickups, pickguards, leads, strings, straps, hardware, tubes, transcription books etc, only requirement is that it’s musically related and in good working order; perhaps the mods could chuck in a Basschat shirt or something? If you want to put up basses/amps etc , then by all means do – but it may make shipping problematic. If there’s sufficient interest in this, and you have item(s) to donate to the raffle, just PM me a description and I’ll keep a list and then get a raffle book and sell numbers via Paypal, at say £2.00/ticket? The only thing I’m unsure of is how to handle shipping? Donor ships it and then gets winner to refund them? Seems the best way, but any thoughts on this? Also, which charity to donate to? My first thought was cancer research, but any other suggestions? Current list of raffle prizes: Pickups from MIM Fender Jazz White Pickguard from MIM Fender Jazz

I'm not a Spector expert, but I think you have a Euro LX4-35 there, which is a bit rarer - I believe the standard LX4 has a 34 inch scale.
They could be built into a single housing as part of a custom build though which would look fine?
I think that's a brilliant idea :-)

I was thinking that a little while ago, it does seem like a good pickup placement. Perhaps it's aesthetics? It's not the most attractive and us bassists are a conservative bunch when it comes to looks.

Probably upgrade my Gen 1 Compact to a new shiny Super Compact and trade my Tribby L2000 in for an equivalent spec L2500

What's the black one on the floor at the front of the first picture, like the shape of that one. Edit: Series 2 Buzzard?

Who was Dave Swift playing for? I'd quite like to hear the Fodera in action.
It's not the same, but very similar, imho. A no-brainer for the cash. Everyone should have a BDI-21 with them at all times. It has a DI out as well and can be used DI-only without the tone shaping should it be necessary.
Can you power the BDI-21 from phantom like you can the BDDI?

Yamaha and Peavey are the first names that jump to my mind when looking for affordable/quality

Went well in the end, crowd wasn't as big as we were hoping, pub was maybe 2/3 full - I think the £15 ticket price for a pub in a small village put people off. But we had people saying they came specifically to see us, and the people who were there seemed to have a really good time. Was a long slog though - played from 10-2 with about an hour's break and the singer's cold came back with a vengeance after the first set and he couldn't speak after we'd finished :-s It has brought home how much lighter my new G&L is than the Lakland I was playing last year - on New Year's Day last year my shoulder was in a fair bit of pain after a similar length set the night before, today it's fine.

Which venue is it? There may be a local basschatter who can stick their head round the door for you

Meshuggah rhythm section solo Thomas Haake and Dick Lovgren live

I'm not a massive fan if I'm honest - I like a few songs, but their music normally leaves me cold. There is some fantastic musicianship in that video though. -
90 days payment terms us a bit of a piss take in my opinion, at work we try and get our suppliers to agree to 60 days from month end, but unless we have a lot of clout with them it normally ends up 30 days. Edit: I should also add, we're a manufacturing company who have regular orders with these suppliers, for infrequent or one-off orders I'd expect to pay in advance.
