I'm playing with my main dep gig tomorrow night at The Plough in Dormansland, near East Grinstead. Always a good laugh these guys and I think there's a beer festival on at the pub too, which is a bonus.

Paypal's phone system is an Esheresque, labyrinthine nightmare, but, once you do get through to someone they are very helpful

Good day for my effects, the Diago gigman I ordered arrived today and I won an Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive for a bargain on Ebay, looking forward to that arriving to"complete" my effects board (for now). Just wanted to share, photies of the board will be up when I'm done ruining my knees sorting out the power cables for my Gigrig Generator

Saw this on Facebook, Alunah - a cracking female fronted doom metal band (Goatsnake, Sabbath, Vitus etc) are seeking a new permanent bassist; if I lived closer to Birmingham (and, if I'm honest, didn't have kids) would be seriously considering this - it's a great opportunity, check out the link below. http://www.alunah.co.uk/alunah-bassist-required.html
Last night at my regular pub gig I used an old Carlsbro 200 watt 1x15 Pro Series cab, (with an old Hartke 3500 head)and it sounded great! Could n't believe how such badly thought of stuff could be so good really - usually use my GK1001RB with a BF Compact, and was amazed how close it was possible to get 'my tone' from a 'budget' setup. Love cheap gear that sounds good, and there's a lot of it about!
You get a very good bang to buck ratio with Hartke

I struggled to sell my Mayones, I think because the brand aren't very well known over here. If you're looking at this and aren't sure, best advice I can give is go try it: you won't be disappointed; the guy I sold mine to hadn't heard of them before, but after coming over to try it out, he left with it.

I remember reading somewhere spiders don't like low frequencies, which makes their choice of home a poor one, crank the bottom end, crank the volume and let rip for a few minutes I'd imagine the'd be off sharpish.

Dave bought my kick-drum mic, prompt payment, good communication througout, all went through as you'd want.

For people with more than 1 bass...
Graham replied to RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE's topic in General Discussion
I like the idea of one bass per project - which is what I currently have: my Lakland Duck Dunn for dep work and as my general go-to bass and my G&L L2000 tuned down to D standard for my prog rock/metal studio project. Though the G&L does get taken out as a backup/Eb tuned bass for covers gigs. -
I foolishly looked up some YouTube videos of a GT200 the other day and now have serious Matamp GAS, do I have the money or space for an enormous, heavy, all valve rig? Not in the slightest. Does this fact help? No. Edit: Amo, it was your video infact - that overdriven tone, just love it. Some really nice playing there too.

The drummer from my old metal band is looking to start a hardcore band, I've copied his Facebook post below. He is a superb drummer, one of the best I've played with, and certainly the best metal drummer I've played with.
I'm looking to start up a brand new, straight up Hardcore band. No Bullshit fringes or trends, just plain and straight to the point Hardcore. In the likes of (I hate name-dropping but): Terror, Madball, Cruel-hand, Backtrack, Earth Crisis (minus the hard-line politics), Down to nothing, Sick of it all, Born from pain etc. I need at least one guitarist who's not only competent, but has a good writing ability, (I'm good at writing drums and a decent structuralist but I can't play guitar), and also understands the scene, has their heart into it and isn't just a Metal player that can technically play it, but is going to get bored of not being able to shred for hours on end (though I don't want to put any limit on the song writing). This would be a Hardcore band that is authentic, but also all about purely playing hows for fun and pushing it as far as we want to, but again for the love of playing shows. If anyone knows of any like minded individuals, or if this sounds to be your cup of tea please pm. me. I can assure you I'm a bloody competent drummer lol
If you're interested drop me a line and I'll pass your details on, cheers.
Don't be shy.. Stick them up!
If I can work out how I will, here's some old pics from said band that were in my photobucket account - none of us had a digital camera back then, so these were taken on 35mm film and then scanned in Christ, I was skinny back then

'mazing, are these for a Goldie Looking Chain tribute act?

I stumbled across some old recordings on my old computer a couple of months ago of the thrash / groove metal bandband I was in at uni, these were before we got out gigging as they were still labelled the original band name (Mutiny) before we realised it wasn't a very original one. We had gone out to a rehearsal hall somewhere in the Camridgeshire countryside that was attached to a pub and set up our amps and played to a 4-track with two mics and just recorded it as if it was a live set. It sounds surprisingly good 9 years later in a lo-fi kind of way - you can hear everything and I'm playing much better than I thought I used to (though not flawlessly) I've put the tracks on my phone and listen to them at work sometimes and they do make me somewhat nostalgic for playing in a metal band.

Hmmmm, I am up for having a go but I might see what my local guitar shop will charge to do it, they have a luthier and I trust them to do a decent job (part of the reason I'm so in-exerienced at set-ups)
-
G&L L2000 is a good option, he can get a used one on here under-budget which will please his dad and it does a whole range of tones (very useful when you're still finding your style / sound) including a convincing (IMO) Stingray tone

For the last few years my G&L has been tuned down to BEAD, I've been thinking about putting it back in standard or maybe DACF for a while and when I broke the top string last night it 's pretty much forced the issue. I'm assuming I'll need a new nut as the guitar shop who set it up for me in B will almost certainly have filled down the old one to accommodate the heavier strings; so my questions are: How easy is it to do this? Where can I get a nut from? Perhaps a decent bone or graphite one rather than the rather cheap looking plastic one that's currently there How much should I be looking at for said new nut? Thanks guys, I'll be looking on YouTube for how to videos, but there's such a wealth of information here I thought it'd be a good place to start. I should add that although I've been playing for over 10 years I am a novice at set-ups so I thought this might be a good one to learn how to do some bits as I should need to change the strings, nut, truss rod (that's for another thread), action and intonation - anything I've misaed? Cheers

I remember seeing an active Rebel 4k in the basement on Rockers in Denmark street about 10 years ago, from what I remember, it had an active circuit rather than pickups, but this was some time ago.

As the title says really, session/dep bassist available in the Sussex/Surrey/Kent area, 11 years experience playing with originals and covers/function bands - touring, recording etc, some big stages (and some tiny, empty ones). I learn things quickly, have good equipment (list below), my own transport and a good attitude; I really like playing with lots of different people so dep work suits me quite well. I can turn my hand to pretty much anything so give me a shout if you're at a loose end for a bass player. Pics, videos, musings etc here: www.facebook.com/grahamsmithbass Current equipment list: G&L SB2 G&L Tribute L2000 Genz Benz STM 900 Barefaced Compact Boss TU2 EBS Multicomp Ashdown Hyperdrive You can get hold of me on Facebook, at and on my mobile 07905476727 Cheers, Graham
