1. Cheers guys, I've not played here before, but heard good things about it. The person stepping in is a singer rather than a drummer, so we'll have to work around what he knows but I think it'll work out ok.
2. Not to worry, sorted now, cheers.
3. Hello everyone, I know this is the wrong forum but as time is of the essence I thought I'd put it in here where more people will see it. I'm supposed to be playing a paid dep gig tonight at The Jolly Farmers in Purley with a rock covers outfit called Carbon Skyline, but the drummer's just dropped out, if anyone knows of someone suitable and available let me know ASAP. This was supposed to be my first time depping with these guys so pretty disapointed it's turned out like this, set list is below: Set 1 American Idiot - Green Day Beautiful Day - U2 Vertigo - U2 Pick A Part That's New - Stereophonics Brown Eyed Girl - Van Morrison Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac Going Underground - The Jam All The Small Things - Blink 182 Place Your Hands - Reef Under The Bridge - RHCP Message In A Bottle - The Police Hard To Handle - Black Crows Wishing Well - Free Saturday Night - Elton John Chelsea Dagger - The Fratellis Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen + Paul Rogers Set 2 Basket case - Green Day Your Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi You Really Got Me - Van Halen Long Train Runnin' - Doobie Brothers Mustang Sally - Commitments Superstition - Stevie Wonder Play Thay Funky Music - Wild Cherry Back In Black - AC/DC All Right Now - Free Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd Mr Brightside - The Killers I Predict A Riot - Kaiser Chiefs Sex On Fire - Kings Of Leon Sweet Child O' Mine - GnR Tush - ZZ Top Wanted Dead Or Alive - Bon Jovi All standard stuff, a lot of us could play all that, so I'm hoping someone knows a drummer who could too.
4. I used to have one of these, best mid-priced cab I've heard, just a great bit of kit.
5. Has anyone used a Kinsman pedalboard? I found this on Ebay which looks like it might be good, but I don't know anything about the brand and don't know what the quality will be like - I want something better than a Stagg / Behringer type board. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=360634195758&index=23&nav=SEARCH&nid=02842459823 Cheers
6. Tuesdays is our local jam night and last night we had a Blues Brothers theme, it went great a bunch of us dressed up (I went as Duck Dunn, obviously) and The guy who runs it went to a lot of effort with his pall who between the two of them look the spit of Jake and Ellwood. I got to play Everybody Needs Somebody, Gimme Some Lovin, Peter Gunn Shake Your Tailfeather, I've been wanting to play Everybody... for years so was grinning after that. Best bit is, the fellow who organised it has a taste for it now and is making noises about doing a proper tribute night at the venue.
7. Pretty simple, it's the most common car on the road, so statistically a large number of bassists (and any other group you care to name that doesn't correct for wealth) will drive them Edit: including me, '53 plate hatchback, it is quite nice that a Barefaced Compact fits perfectly in the boot

Boss aw3
I had one, but even with the bass input, I found it lost the low end quite a bit. The humanizer effect is quite cool.
That was exactly my experience
9.
Yep Graham I agree, i've worked in similar fields and I can see where you get the analogy from, us bassists are not really attention seekers, we sit back there do the job and let all the others fight it out for the glory. We walk away satisfied that a good job has been done and we can relax and enjoy something else with an internal grin. Not only that but i think we tend to have similar tastes in bass gear
That's pretty much where I was going with it :-) Iconic, interesting that carp fishing is the common theme there
10. If you've got a hot signal going into the EQ pedal, have you tried turning all the filter sliders right down and then slowly bringing them up again to a level where it's not an issue?
11. I work as a buyer (well, vendor schedulor is the new job title since the restructuring last year) for a manufacturing company and was thinking about the qualities and personalities that people who work in purchasing tend to have, and using very broad strokes from both sides, it struck me that buyers and bass players tend to have quite similar personalities. Both tend to be quiet, problem solvers who get on with work without demanding attention or praise, who's wins are invisible and mistakes are public; tend to have good planning skills and are more drawn to supportive than leadership roles. Obviously all somewhat stereotypical, but I wondered if anyone else on here worked in the same field?
12. If my home situation was different I'd audition for this, and I'd like to think, be at least not terrible. However, realistically there's no point as in the unlikely event that I got it, I can't take 3 months off work and leave my wife and kids at home to go off galavanting on tour across the states, as great as that sounds.
13. Oh aye, and there'd be American strings and probably a couple of Swedish designed / Chinese assembled pedals in the signal chain too but you get my drift
14. I love the idea of an all British set-up: Shuker bass with Bare Knuckle pickups, and East pre-amp into a Matamp head and Barefaced cab; not got anywhere near the money to make that happen though.
15.
one cheap way to get out of phase problems with the LS-2 is to put a pedal in the loop that does invert the phase. i've used a ehx lpb-1 in the past. very slight bass suckage tho.
Or re-solder a connector cable to invert the phase - cheaper still! :-)
16.
I've already got a Bob Glaub geezer was one of my early influences too. Infact the first song my first band learned was paranoid
I'm assuming it's a Bob Glaub modded with the Sabbath inlays anyway - as I believe he was playing those before he got his signature model, might have different pickups / neck profile though. Love the fretboard wood on the NAMM one, just lovely.
17. Also, I really like the Bongo "stealth bass" I think that looks great
18. On the whole, I tend to find them dull, but that doesn't mean they can't look good - Precision in black with a tiger-eye pickguard and a maple neck is quite sexy. I did a gig last year with my occasional covers band, I had a maple-burst G&L and the two guitarists both had black Ibanez / Ltds and looking back at the photos, I think mine looked best if only by virtue of standing out.
19. Whereabouts in Kent are you fella?
20. Very interesting, do you know how the sound of this compares to a Sansamp?
21. Not really my bag, but I'd rather see Fender try a few more in this vein than carry on with the whole 'box of spares' thing they've been doing recently with the blacktop / modern player / pawnshop lines.
22. That's stunning, absolutely adore it; not sure if I should be offering congratulations or commiserations on the sale
23. Tim Armstrong - I love his lyrics and natural songwriting ability. Steve Wilson - I love his ear for arrangements, tone and production but above all: Frank Turner - You ever have that moment where a songwriter's lyrics just perfectly connect to you and you think they're singing about you? I have that with Frank, I swear his album Love, Ire And Song could've been written about me; couple that with great songwriting and you have a winner. If the boy were to lead a revolution I'd join.
24. I would have everything out and looking sexy, but with two kids and no spare room it has to sit in a corner of the living room in it's cases - it's a fairly satisfying pile of cases though
25. Backbone by Gojira is always the first one I think of in heaviest ever riff discussions but really anything by Lazarus Blackstar would probably win. I'll look for some links when I'm not on mobile.
