It's funny, I've found a similar thing myself and observed it in others, you start off on a Squire Precision, then discover exotic woods, active pickups and extended range instruments before giving a 4 string jazz ago until you give up, come full circle and just buy a decent precision
Aye, the Dunn has a jazz neck. Hold onto that one until you are ready to go. When you do sell, put it out at good money, they are desirable and rarely come up. Amps, get a Barefaced, Schroeder, whatever, cab, and a Class D micro head. You will be amazed! Good luck.
Aye, that's the plan......unless I can persuade you to part with your bob glaub Karl?

Cheers guys, you are right and I'll get the Shuker one day. The Lakland in question is a Skyline Duck Dunn which sounds fantastic but the neck isn't quite right for me, hence the desire for a custom but it's far from un-payable so I'll stick with that for now. Been looking at small amp solutions and you never know, might end up liking it more (thinking an Eden WT550 into a Barefaced Super 12T might be a good combination) or, as you say I might find space for the EBS. Been trying to look on the brightside a bit more.

So today's been remarkably disapointing, after a long time trying to sell it, a couple of weeks ago I managed to sell my old Mayones through Gumtree and got a good price for it, I was then able to sell my jazz bass to a mate and if I were to then sell my Lakland (which shouldn't be hard) I'd be able to afford to get Jon Shuker to build me the Precision of my dreams and have been in discussions with him about it. However, my wife and I have been trying to move back to the town we used to live in so we'd be closer to our parents and friends and would be able to get a lot more support with the children and today we found out we can get a house we've been looking at renting. The downside is the sheer number of fees and that the deposit being over twice the deposit on the flat we're in now, means I'm going to have to spend the bulk of what I made from selling the two basses on the deposit, writing off the custom build for the forseeable future. I know a house is more important, I know it's what my wife wants (I want to move back too, but it's less important to me) and it is the right decision, but I do feel really sad that I thought I was going to have a bass built that ticked every box - wood, neck profile, electronics, finish etc and now it just isn't going to happen, certainly not for quite a while. I had a day booked off next Monday to go to GAK, Guitar Guitar in Epsom and Andertons to go try several basses out to confirm the ideal neck profile for me not sure if there's any point to that now. Also, as land prices in the south east in general and specifically in East Grinstead are a joke, the house we'll be moving to is smaller than the flat we're in now so I'll probably have to get rid of my beloved EBS rig and get something smaller. Sorry for lowering the tone, but just thought I'd vent to people who would understand.

I wish I could remember what they were called, but I saw an awful Rammstein tribute a couple of years ago. Guitarist was barely in time, fronted by an out of tune, chubby goth with a lass on bass who was there presumably because she was willing to wear a short skirt. They were opening for Mentallica who were quite fun and High On Maiden who were great at the Agincourt in Camberley.

I wouldn't worry too much, has the venue provided a marquee or something to keep at least the amps dry? I'd say they need to do that at a minimum as we're talking about mains power. Regarding drunks and your gear, if you're worried, stick it in the car between sets - bass / pedals anyway.

Up for grabs is my Sunburst Mexican Fender Jazz. I bought this in, I think, 2007 and it was my workhorse for a good few years before I came to the conclusion that I really am more of a Precision kind of guy. In that time I swapped the stock pickups out for Fender Originals, these are great sounding pups and Fender fit them as standard on their American '62 re-issue and Geddy Lee sig - I love the earthing strap, really gives it that 60s look. To add to the 60s vibe I replaced the white pickguard with a tiger-eye tortoiseshell one - this was a third party rather than Fender so isn't a perfect fit - as you can see from the pic, but if you're standing any more than about half a metre away you'd never see the gap. I think I know where the original pickups and scratch-plate are and if I can find them they'll be included in the sale if the buyer wants them. There is a ding on the bottom side near the jack from where it decided to jump out of the strap one evening. This is cosmetic only, no structural problems from it - it never bothered me as I like the genuinely road-worn look and isn't very visible. No trades thanks guys as I'm raising funds to get Jon Shuker to build me the Precision of my dreams £375.00 ONO I don't have a hard case for this, so would definitely prefer collection but if you want me to ship it, get in contact and we can talk. Let me know if you want any more information or pictures from any other angles, thanks for looking

If you wanted after-market electronics which emulate a Wal, I'd have thought a call to Wizard and John East would get you something pretty close. Probably not cheap though as they wouldn't be off the shelf models.

If you want Chancellor's tone on a budget, a G&L L2000 Tribute with a Sansamp BDDI into a clear sounding amp like a Hartke or Gallien Kruger would do it

Don't like that, reminds me too much of the 'sex toy' upper horn on a Corvette

Do I need a new preamp valve in my Hartke HA3500?
Graham replied to kryptonicwatermelon's topic in Amps and Cabs
From what I remember, the SS pre-amp didn't work either when the tube went, which worried me until I swapped the valve out -
I suspect there's some confusion of terminology in this thread, where some people are thinking of clean as un-distorted and others (myself included) are thinking of it as un-coloured - not saying either are correct, but it might account for why people are saying Markbass are really clean, when - IME - they colour the sound remarkably.

Next up a couple of medleys with the covers band from what I think is the biggest show I've done at Lingfield Racecourse last year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90aVX1oPb4s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbH_Lg8bah8&feature=relmfu

Graham replied to kryptonicwatermelon's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yup, that sounds exactly like the pre-amp valve has gone, I used to have a Hartke model 1000 and found the exact same thing happen, swapped the tube for a new one and it was back to normal :-) -
Does the slap sound hide the fact you can't play it right ?
Graham replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
But guitar ego is overriding all sense.
as it ever was -
If memory serves, if you run an amp into a cab at too low an impedance then the amp can overheat (which is what it sounds like has happened) as the cab is drawing more power than the amp is designed to handle - I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me can confirm / refute this and explain why.

Graham replied to Black Coffee's topic in Bass Guitars
It doesn't help that a lot of modern metal guitarists use active pickups and bass heavy, high gain tone which when coupled with a double kick playing, heavy handed drummer makes it hard for the bass player to cut through. Consider the difference between Maiden / early Metallica guitar tone to a modern band like Lamb Of God - it's a lot thicker a heavier -
In studio, yes, he has used SVT's, along with Markbass and a few others, but live he only ever uses his 3 Marshall DBS rigs. I've never seen him gig with anything else. Liam
But Beadie Eye, for instance, had 2 Marshall Plexis, 2 Marshall bass heads and 8x10s and 2 vox AC30s; Bellamy had his own amp and The Who had their own backline - seems odd that CW would be the only one to be handed something that wasn't his choice - so perhaps he's made the shift to Ampeg live? -
Was one of his Statii, i think all of his Status basses have LED's don't they. On another CW related note, as i mentioned in another thread earlier, the fact that they dumped an SVT and 810 behind him made me laugh, especially as i don't think it was even plugged in. Liam
Wasn't there a picture of him in the studio recently playing a Status that also had an SVT next to him?
