1. He is the coolest. Did you get to have a go on the Jazz ? We supported Wilko at Poole not long ago and he used my rig ! Got some nice pics of us together.
2. Sorry havent had time to check out playlist but do you have TM Stevens ?
3. Hmmm an interesting thread indeed. My dad was a lap steel player and into hawaian music and I think that sort of tingled the taste buds when I was a kid. I took up the bass when I heard the beetles and later Mr Jamerson became the benchmark. Now 45 years later I look back at people who have influenced me and find the likes of Leslie West and Johnny Winter played a big part, I think because of their feel and ,in Johnnys case energy. Both are superb slide players. Recently Ive had a hankering to buy a Les Paul junior and take up Slide/Blues guitar as a sideline. It hasnt diminished my love for the bass but added a whole new challenge for me. We shall see....
4. This Saturday 30th the Worried Men support Wilco Johnson at Mr Kyps in Poole. Its gonna be rockin ! If you want tickets visit www.theworriedmen.com
5. Have you seen the Tokai lefty T Birds on ebay?
6.
Dunno, depends if there is a left over neck or not. If I do buy a Pro and I like how it sounds, it'll stay in one piece and be up for cheap sales on here most likely. If I gut the pups from it, we'll see, I might put it on here for cheap, but I'll be wanting to get rid of the body as well and won't be just selling the neck on.
Gimmee a shout if you want rid of the body.
7.
He used to play in TTD and Skunk Anansie, and I remember him doing a bit with Gary Moore a while back, as probably most will know... Anyone know where he is now, and what he's up to? What gear he used or is using? Any links? Anything really would be good.
I think he used a Stingray. 'Stoosh' is a good album.
8.
Hi Hatori, is that a genuine Epiphone or one of those Gibson copies?
Actually its a Tokai. I played a Gibson one in Hartnolls (Plymouth) last week and fell in love.
9. Hi Dom and greetings from Weston super mare welcome to BC. I also have a Thunderbird.
10.
As a Marshall player for most of the 70's I think they were the only brand to own. You could do anything with a 100 watt amp and a 4x12 cab but times moved on and Marshall didn't! These days they don't seem to be "all rounder’s". For me they don't work when you need anything remotely "subtle" but for "battering down doors" they are still great.
I think thats spot on. I did a gig in wales last week where a guy came up to me afterwards and said 'F**k**g awesome sound man not like these piddly modern things.I could feel the hurt'. For subtle I have my Markbass lm2 and 2x10,1x12 cabs Tobias sixxer and fretless Jazz. For 'saw your face off ' I have my Thunderbird/Marshall rig. Oh happy day!
11. I have a Marshall JCM800 superlead mk2 and a JCM800 superbass. Both are awesome and have character. Both made within two months of one another in 1981. Brutally loud and tone to die for. Yes I like em !
12. Saturday night at the Cheese and Grain at Frome supporting Wishbone Ash. We had a great time and the place was rammed. Sound crew were gentlemen and we had everything we asked for. I wish I could do more like this.
13.
There are some real bargains to be had from the for sale forums here - stuff ebay!
Amen to that one. I have had some cracking gear from guys on here and like to think Ive made some new friends too.
14. Think of all the things you ever wanted to do. Telly out the window.Adolph Hitler costume silly japes to piss off your band mates. A good sense of humour is what you need to carry you through! Take pen and paper and keep a road diary, you'll be able to write a book when you get home. Above all live the dream. Been there done it got the tee shirt, video and dont regret a thing.
You can't go wrong with a gibbo. The bottom end on these beasts are like nothing else. I wouldn't buy a new one tho, although that is just my taste in guitars. I absolutely love my 78 ebony ripper and the dark sound it produces. I find it's the perfect balance of sound when playing with a full band. The highs are present but not in your face. It's extremely resonant as well, loads of overtones. Looks like i'm going to pick up a 75 in natural tomorrow for a good price. The action's a big high on it but it's all functional and I think will be fine after a good set up. Could do with a refret as well tho....
Now thats one I never tried is it the one with the sliding pickup? Or am I thinking of the Grabber. I really miss my EB3L but sadly the prices now are out of reach. If I had my way I'd have another and a Thunderbird !
16. 57 this year. Dont let avatar pic fool you. Ive still got it goin on...masculine...strong...horny....who am I kidding!!
Not sure, really - It just had the right feel and an excellent scooped-style sound, which I like. Also felt like a real quality item in the hands.
I was considering a Fenderbird project (still may happen) but during research I went on 'Vintage and rare guitars' which proved fatal ! Somebody has to talk me out of this !! They say that reciting the alphabet backwards helps.
Electro have a brand new Thunderbird in stock for £999 & it's stunning to play. Before I'd played this one, I'd only ever played the Epiphones. The Epiphones are great basses for the money, but this Gibson one is something else...
£999..So near yet so far away, just forked out for another Marshall superbass! Out of interest what makes this bass feel so special to you in comparison?

Gibson

Im seriously gassing for an Gibson Thunderbird. In the 70's I had an EB3l and a Les Paul recording, both are fine instruments. Ive had my share of Fenders that have proven to be very capable reliable instruments but somehow (to me) they lack character.
20. I have been a big fan of Billy for a long time. Having been to see his clinics for Ampeg and witnessed his awesome technique I find his whole take on playing bass truly inspiring. Being an old guy I have my moments when I feel jaded and think of packing it in but then remember Billy saying to me 'never give up on your dream'. That has seen me through and Im still hanging in there. Im going to get me a copy asap!
21. Sixty nine saw me with all my stuff in the back of my mates ford anglia van do a runner to Plymouth. Hair down to my arse, Jack Bruce my hero. First ever paid job was at The Pussycat club Union street. 9pm-3am seven days a week playing pop and backing cabaret singers and strippers for the princely sum of 27 pounds . If I remember it was a Rossetti Lucky seven bass and my dads Selmer 15 watt combo. Yes...The Pussycat Club...blood on every step, and on Saturday nights at kicking out time The Royal Marines and the Navy beating the crap out of each other.Aye them were t days.
22. Just received Marshall JCM800 superbass. A classic example of honour and integrity and a bloody nice bloke.

My main rig is a Marshall JCM 800 superlead Mk2 into a Marshall 4x12. My backup amp currently is a Markbass LM2 but Im trying to get hold of another Marshall superlead or superbass. I also carry a Presonus tube pre (well I know its belt and double braces but with 200 plus gigs a year you never know).
