1. The lack of tabs for certain bands was more annoying to me when I first started playing, you'd swear there's only two Stone Roses songs if you went off the number of bass tabs available. If the accuracy bugs you, you could always have a go yourself, it gets really easy to figure them out by ear after a while if you stick at it.
2. GHS Half Rounds, a nice middle ground between rounds and flats.
3. We had five of us crammed into a corner because the landlord wouldn't move an empty table into the other room. I was stood between the hi hats and a wall, one guitarist was sat on my amp which trapped me into the corner next to the radiator, the other guitarist and singer were stood a foot in front of the drums, and my brother had to tie his stool to his bass drum to stop it sliding into them when he played. We still enjoyed it though.
4.
Aye fine examples. But, its not like they were commonplace on the majority of the tunes and despite being well thought out basslines they really aint remarkable. Shes so high is a great example. Well structured etc. However, everytime I hear it I just think Stone Roses, ie. classic Brit Pop.
The Stone Roses weren't really Brit Pop though were they?
5. So it's like a sonic jigsaw? Trying to fit into your space without treading on everyone elses turf
6. Dawsons forgot to send me an amp I bought off them, so when I phoned up to ask where it was they apologised and had it delivered the next day with two packs of Ernie Ball strings and a new lead hidden inside the box. I thought that was jolly decent of them
7.
I wouldn't go that far, just for the bass playing community
Are you implying that we are not human, sir?
8. There's hope for the human race yet
9. All the theory knowledge in the world won't help you when the Chinese take over.
10. Grow really long arms like me? Or more realistically, try the short scale Squier Jaguar bass
11. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/162748-your-first-gig/ Here's a few more
12. I taught myself some basic chords and a few bar chords on my brother's acoustic which just gathers dust in his room (he's a drummer). I found it surprisingly easy to memorise the chords, it only took me a day and I was quite pleased with myself, it's changing between them smoothly that gives me trouble so watch out for that if you're gonna give it a go. It can't hurt to broaden your musical horizons.
13. Jamie Oliver probably drooled all over them with his massive tongue.
14. Mine's sat under my bed, gutted with a broken neck. It's a Benson P-bass copy I got off eBay for £80 with an amp the size of a child's shoebox. It looked like a child had built it too, the neck was bolted so far down on the body that the twelfth fret was where the seventeenth usually is. It sounded pretty good though despite the shoddy build quality.
15. G, C, AND D? I wish that was me.
16. All By Myself - The La's Take Me Away - Oasis There's No Such Man as Crasp - Biffy Clyro (Give that a listen, it's all acapella) The second part of Standing Here - The Stone Roses, and Vincent by Don McLean
17. Tell us the figure when you find out
18. My GHS half rounds start off really zingy but mellow out after a week or so, then they last a couple of months before they sound like flat wounds. Give them a go, they're about £20 on ebay I think.
19. Have you tried the black dunlop Tortex plectrums? They're thin and stiffer than Gary Glitter at playgroup.
20. It's all good except for "Use Somebody." That song is such a buzz kill.
21. "You've got the job, but you're gonna have to use a Thunderbird. Here's one I painted earlier using some poster paint, and then covered with a thin layer of PVA glue to give it a nice shiny finish." That's how I imagine/hope the conversation went. Congratulations anyway!
22. She's just the NME's latest hype, have a look on their website, they have a new story every day about how ordinary and down to earth she is. I'd put money on them giving her album a bad review, the NME's usual trick is to build an artist up for months and then slaughter them when the debut album comes out. Anyone remember Viva Brother? No? Of course you don't, because they're s*** and don't seem to exist outside of the NME's coverage. They were the magazine's last "next big thing" and now they've been abandoned since the bad reviews came rolling in, and it's probably going to happen to Lana Del Rey too.
23.
Second list > first list.
I'd have to agree with you, although She Bangs the Drums and Rain would've been nice to play.
24.
Bloody hell you know it's bad when someone Can't/Won't learn Oasis on the basis of the chords used
I know, if the bassist knows more basic guitar chords than you, somethings not right. He refused all of my efforts to show him even the easiest ones.
25.
Wasn't BB King was it?
Haha, I wish
