I like Oasis and I think he's quite funny, same with Noel. Don't take them too seriously I say

Hollyoaks is where it's at for new music! Period.

That's good, nice one Does anyone know why it's set in Chester but the characters sound scouse and mancunian? -
From liking a band to being an active fan - when does it happen?
In my head, it's when cash is exchanged, so buying an album, t shirt, gig ticket, that sort of thing, because that to me shows that you're willing to put your hard earned cash into listening to a particular band, and they're not just a band what you'll listen to when they come on the radio. Liam
Yeah it's exactly the same for me -
So its beyond you to remember the position of half a dozen knobs then ?.
Was it beyond him to remember to bring his own amp then?
-
to be honest, that's pretty lame behaviour in my opinion. By all means, refuse to lend someone an amp. That's cool. But to lend them one and then duct tape the controls? That's pretty sad.
I left him the volume and channel switch. He could always have gone into the desk or brought along his own amp couldn't he? I don't care how "sad" or "weird" it was.
-
The only time I lent my amp out at a gig I put duct tape over the controls to stop him changing my settings, and the guy was happy with that, after the gig they all sloped off without saying thanks. A few months later I heard he'd been slagging me off afterwards because he couldn't get "his sound," and I was being "totally unreasonable." If you turn up to a gig without an amp just expecting to borrow someone else's then don't be surprised if they put a few ground rules down. That's if you're lucky enough to be allowed to use one in the first place.
Best amp I;ve ever owned and I've owned Ampeg all valve beasts, the DI is a little hot but you can get an attenuator for a few quid, I'm not a fan of the little isobaric cab though, I much prefer the TC RS210t
Is the TC RS210 the only cab you use with it? If so, is it very loud? I'm looking for a lightweight and loud 2x10 myself
Well it is, but that`s not necessarily in a bad way. It has it`s own identity, and sounds great with a Precision. One of the best sound-clips I`ve heard that shows this is Low End Bees band, The Jetsonics, and their song New Romance. Fairly sure he was still using the OTB when it was recorded, and it sounds great. I used to use my MB with everything at midday on the Classic Channel, and I could get the same sound fairly easily, with bass & treble on full, mids on zero on the OTB. However if I wanted a more modern sound, or a slap-sound (unlikely but possible), at that point the OTB would be found lacking. For full-on straightforward valvey goodness, the OTB is a great amp, in an easy to cart about package.
I can't decide now, it's a lot of money to spend just to see if I like it. Maybe an MB450H head and smaller cabinet is the way to go?
-
Yes I`ve had both. The MB was far more versatile, due to the two channels, compressor, boostable gain, and twin-channel blend. Plenty of volume, an all-round under-rated amp in my view - something Marshalls bass amps just seem to get stuck with. The OTB is great at what it does, but the eq isn`t the most versatile - pretty limited I found. No matter what the settings, it still sounds like an OTB, which of course, if you like that, it`s great. I used a Sansamp with mine to get a bit more flexibility, and it really livened the amp up.
The MB is an excellent amp, it's just too big and heavy especially with the extension cabinet. Sounds like the OTB is a bit of a one trick pony then?
-
For me I`d be concentrating more on the amp than the benefits and technicalities of the cab. The OTB is a great amp at what it does, but is rather limited, not the most versatile amp on the market at all. I`d look at trying one out in a music shop through at least 2 or 3 different brands cabs, to see if you like the amp.
You had a Marshall MB didn't you? How does it compare with the OTB to you?
Isobaric cabs are massive fail, good to ignore them. One good 15 could well cover all the territory your paired cabs did before.
I have a lot to learn it seems, I was under the impression that 15s were only good for lows?
-
I'd read that the Terror's mids were cut only, my EQ pedal should help with that though. I'm going for a single light 4x10 to keep lifting to a minimum, my back was starting to hurt loading a 2x10 combo and 1x15 cabinet in and out of the car. I'm glad it broke in a way I was interested in the isobaric Orange cabs, but the price scared me off

I need to buy a new amp and cab since my Marshall lost the will to live the other day, and I've decided on an Orange Bass Terror 500 http://www.gak.co.uk/en/gallien-krueger-410mbe-800-watt-4x10-bass-speaker-cabinet-(4-ohm/66801 And this GK cab: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/gallien-krueger-410mbe-800-watt-4x10-bass-speaker-cabinet-(4-ohm/66801 Quite a lightweight combination which will be a nice change from lugging my big heavy Marshall about. I don't know anything about amps and cabs, watts and ohms etc. and reading into it just confused me even more so I thought I'd see if you lot could help me out. Basically what I'm asking is is it safe to use these together, and will I be getting the most out of the head putting it through that cab? Cheers
I would nominate my squire vintage modified precision, a white / black/ rosewood one made in Indonesia I paid £80 on eBay as a parts/not working item. It took about 30 mins to fix the issue and clean it up. It was absolutely f£&)ing superb
Exactly the same one I have, I had no idea how good it was until I played a few other basses -
Another Liverpool music shop shut down!!

It's still there, and someone just bought the nice Fireglo Rickenbacker they had in there too. Now I can't go in anymore and annoy the staff by asking for a go, Inconsiderate b*****d. Maybe it was the bloke who was playing on it with me a few weeks ago? If it was and you're reading this, I'll give you fifty quid and a half eaten packet of Quavers for it -
I use my middle finger to hit the note you're barring, if it works for you then why wouldn't it be acceptable?
-
Not quite in the same league as yours, but my Squier Vintage Modified precision (£270) is as good as the Fender (£480) I bought as an upgrade. Maybe I got a dud?

Edit: Double post sorry

thoughts on ground wound/half round/pressure wound strings?
Judo Chop replied to Smythe's topic in Bass Guitars
I have GHS Pressurewounds on my P bass, and they are a great mix of flat and round.
I have them on my PJ, they're really good strings -
That's cool, it reminded me of "Don't Stop" by the Stone Roses
I'm rehearsing regularly ATM (2 new members, and some new material) and thoroughly enjoying it. Am I just in a band, or am I actually in a band?
You're in a band -

Ah, I see he has one of those "electric amps." They can get quite noisy compared to a steam powered one. -
Well, this is to me
