  1. Our drummer can count a song in one tempo and then start playing it at a completely different one. Add to that an ability to slow down to a virtual standstill at various points - you get the picture. Drives me effing nuts at times and it's incredibly difficult to keep going at the right tempo, especially since he doesn't seem to notice. When we listen to recordings he'll often say 'We slowed down a bit there'. 'I've told him over and over it's not 'We'. Rant over.

    Big hands

Jeff Beck's another one with huge hands. Guitarist in my band always struggles with strats because he finds the necks too thin. I think Beck had a signature strat with a fat neck so that might be worth looking at. other than that, quite a lot of Les Pauls have a chunky neck.
  3. Aaaand three.....two,,,,,,one, you're back in the room.
  4. I'd imagine that the 'correct' way to play is far more important on acoustic instruments where poor technique would be much more audible. Amplified sound is much more forgiving.
  5. He's on this too which is another LFDH favorite with the fabulous Todd Rundgren,
  6. When I saw Daryl Hall's solo gigs in the 90s, Al Gorrie was his bass player.
  7. Been hooked on LFDH for years. Saw him (with and without John Oates) a bunch of times in the 90s and they were amazing gigs. This is one of my favorite LFDH episodes;
  8. These things are incredible value for money. I've played basses that cost 10x as much that don't get close.
  9. Being expected to have all band communication via f***ing Facebook. Just send me a text (or, gasp! Ring me) so I don't have to trawl through pages of 'What I had for breakfast', 'Look at my new shoes', 'Isn't my cat cute'. Also, I've forked out for the mixing desk, graphic eq, limiter etc for the vocals and we've collectively bought the rest of the PA because singer is always skint. His microphone is shagged but he never has the dosh to replace it but has just miraculously shelled out £400 for a tattoo!
  10. Why not? It's just another sound the thing can make.
  11. I guess if your musical palette is as one dimensional as Gene Simmonds he has a point. However, to make such a sweeping statements shows an enormous amount of ignorance of music genres and fellow musicians. Alternatively, he's being a bellend. In fact, either way he's a bellend.
  12. I have a Line 6 LD15 under the desk in my office. I use the Aux in to hook it up to the laptop (with headphones if needed) and it works a treat. Can easily get a reasonable sound out of it to work stuff out or play along to a bit of Youtube.
  13. Guitarists in my band have been through dozens of amps ( Marshall, Fender, Mesa Boogie etc) since they love trying stuff out and, in my opinion, one of the best for rock/blues is the Blackstar HT100.
  14. Light still not very complimentary but here's a pic anyway.
  15. Looks like it was designed by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.
  16. Bass is now finished and back together. I love it! Took some photos but the light wasn't good and it looked white. I'll take some when I can put it outside in natural light and then I'll post them. As I said before, I'm absolutely blown away at the quality of this guitar for £100 and will definitely be gigging it.
  17. Got some little black insects in it (b***ards!) but they might come out when I flat and polish it, hopefully tomorrow.
  18. I'll have a bash at putting some pictures up.
  19. Must be one of the more reliable ones then . Only kidding!
  20. Thankyou Si. I might well do that.
  21. I've got a few pics in the bag - the tricky bit for me is getting them onto the thread. Do not underestimate how utterly crap I am at that type of stuff!
  22. Paint has arrived this morning. Couldn't get it in 2K solid colour so I've got solvent basecoat which will then need to be clear coated. Template also arrived this morning to reshape the headstock courtesy of the most friendly and helpful Kodoakblair from this forum. Had a bit of spare time this afternoon so I've cut the headstock to shape and sanded it down. A flick of etch primer (don't know if that's necessary but it should bite onto the wood I hope) and a few coats of high build primer from an aerosol. I've sanded the body over with 800 grit paper and then given it a good going over with grey scotchbrite. Hopefully I'll have it painted over the weekend.
  23. Check out the link below as well which I can't embed. SAHB The Man in the Jar. Alex Harvey at his demented best. Just bought 5 classic SAHB albums for £9.99 off Amazon and loving it.

  25. Taos is fabulous - or it was when I was there 12 years ago! Loved Santa Fe and will never forget the Albuquerque balloon festival. 6.30 a.m. and there were over 800 hot air balloons up. Incredible stuff.
