  1. Check out the link below as well which I can't embed. SAHB The Man in the Jar. Alex Harvey at his demented best. Just bought 5 classic SAHB albums for £9.99 off Amazon and loving it.

  3. Taos is fabulous - or it was when I was there 12 years ago! Loved Santa Fe and will never forget the Albuquerque balloon festival. 6.30 a.m. and there were over 800 hot air balloons up. Incredible stuff.
  4. New Mexico is one of my favorite places in the World. Absolutely love it. Where are you from?
  5. The Harley Benton has turned up today and I have to say it is quite astonishing value for money. Needs a couple of very minor tweaks when I strip it down but it looks, feels and plays incredibly well. Might be a bit difficult putting it down to start work on it - we'll see. I can muck about with it til the paint turns up anyhow.
  6. Hmmmm........I'll see how this one goes first !!!
  7. I'm going to do it in that pale mint green that Fiat use on the 500s. Think it's called Smooth Mint. I'm going to cut the headstock to a Tele shape and colour that as well. Probably get a load of flack for it but I reckon it will look good. Might even stretch to a Mother of Pearl scratchplate.
  8. I've just ordered a Harley Benton PB50 which I'm going to repaint straight away as a bit of a project. I've never painted a guitar before but have worked for donkeys years as a car painter so no problems there. I'd like any suggestions on what type of paint I should use in case anyone has experience. I'm thinking 2K solid colour could work but would also be happy to try 2K basecoat and clear. I'm assuming the factory finish is stable enough to paint over without re-priming. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Also have just read through kodiakblair's PB50 thread and have all the info I need for a headstock reshape. Great stuff.

    Refinishing

Thanks for the advice MB. I'll do that. Now moved to Build diarys thread.
  10. I've just ordered a Harley Benton PB50 from Thomann which I'm going to repaint straight away. I've never painted a guitar but I've painted hundreds of cars since it was my profession for many years. Any advice on prep (e.g. paint over existing surface or strip down) would be welcome as would any advice on what type of paint would work (e.g. 2k base coat/clear or 2k solid colour, or anything else). I'll be using professional spraying equipment by the way, so no aerosols. Thanks chaps.
  11. These and cockroaches will survive armageddon.
  12. Never a truer word spoken.
  13. Bass sound check.
  14. Probably sounds 'commercial' because that's exactly what it is. It's about advertising revenue and the demographic of their listeners.
  15. Nostalgic thread. The thing back then was that if you didn't catch something first hand the chance was gone. No video recorders, no catch up TV, no Youtube. It's why everybody watched stuff (OGWT in my case) and then talked about it the next day. There was no possibility to catch it later. I must have sat through hours and hours of utter dross to pick out the odd gem, which, once seen would vanish for ever (that is until Youtube enabled it to all be dug up again).
  16. I hate Fiesta Red and don't care who disagrees with me. I'd rather have Tobacco Burst any day.
  17. We play this. It's a bit of a bugger in F but luckily the singer preferred it in E which makes it a piece of cake.
  18. Bought a pedal from Doug. Good bloke - deal with absolute confidence.
  19. Funnily enough I've just binned mine out to some mug on ebay. Just kidding! Think you might like it.
  20. Like the Circle of 5ths, there is also a Circle of GAS. The progression goes I'm happy with what I have. Something different catches the attention. Reasons to acquire said article begin chattering in the brain. Justifications for acquire said article begin to form. Said article is elevated from 'Desirable' to 'Must Have' status Previously satisfactory equipment becomes unsatisfactory. Rabid obsession with said article developes. New article is acquired. I'm happy with what I have. Rinse and repeat.
  21. I love my compressor because it has an LED on which changes from green to red when I play a bit harder and it gives me something to look and entertain me whilst playing Mustang Sally. It has kept me sane (almost).
  22. Oh right, I'm with you now. The volume control on the pedal is a tiny little thing and is very sensitive. i have it very low to give a unity gain with my other pedals. The gain control is far less sensitive and can be adjusted without greatly increasing or decreasing volume - at least that's how it works for me. You wouldn't want to try to alter the tiny volume and tone controls in a gig situation but you should be OK to alter the gain within reason.
  23. Used to have a TC Nova Dynamics which was exceptionally good but a bit too big for my board. Moved to a Keeley Bassist which I'm very pleased with.
  24. Haven't had a chance to use it in anger yet but it does have a volume control so you can adjust the output to suit. Like I said, I paid £23 for mine off ebay so it's a real no brainer if you think it might work for you. I use it through a Precision (Tokai actually) and the sound on the Youtube demo is very accurate. I play finger style with flats so it takes a bit more drive to get the sound but it's all there. I've paid a lot more for pedals that (I suspect) weren't half as good.
