1. Top bloke. Everything as described. Have dealt with Dan buying and selling and is always faultless.
2. Expensive - AER Amp One Medium - Tecamp Puma Combo Cheap - TC 2x8 Combo.
3. We had our powered mixing desk fail once. We put the vocals through my backup amp (Streamliner) and it got us out of a jam. Sounded fine in the circumstances.
4.
10 cc were superb. Reminded me how good they were back in the 70s and a major touring band. It's quite bizarre how some music like this nearly disappears off the radar in terms of radio airplay - this happened to ELO also until the revival in recent years. For those of us reminiscing with rose tinted spectacles about the OGWT, I recall that rather like Later, it had its ups and downs and sometimes it was a pile of poo whereas others it was great - once again, as with any music programme of that type, it depends on your taste as to how much you like or dislike. The Tube is another - some phenomenal stuff on there - along with some not so good.
The thing about OGWT was that you had to watch it from start to finish. No recording it or ability to watch it later whenever you felt like it. As with all things consigned to the memory, the human brain tends to remember them as much better or worse than they actually were. That's where a lot of the magic is.
5. I now realise I've been playing bass and guitar upside down all these years. No wonder I'm so bad at both.
6. I'm waiting for 'being offended by next to nothing' to become a competitive sport. We'll be World Champions for years and years.
7. At the beginning of each set. Hardly ever needs any adjustment either.
8. Probably not too well known but Robbie MacIntosh (a proper guitarist's guitarist) is a great bass player. Does a lot of the bass work on his own albums, mainly when he can't get hold of Pino.
9. I've never tired of gigging. The only thing that has pushed me close to the edge is internal band politics. I'm very fortunate now to gig with a bunch of guys that play as often as I want, are good musicians and who get along just fine. We don't play that much, but sometimes less is more.
10. Has it been turned on without a cab connected?
11. I have a Weber Mywatt. It's more or less a copy of the old Hiwatt. Hand built, 200Watts, around 20kg and very reasonably priced. Sounds fabulous. Go check it out - you won't be disappointed.
12. Waiting for Columbus - Little Feat. One of the best 'live' albums of all time in my opinion.
13. You could run through the facial expressions on the sliders, as in; Smiley, Vaguely Amused, Ambivalent, Disgruntled, You Spilled My Pint.
14. A lot of bands start out trying to emulate somebody else. Marillion sounded like Genesis to me, probably because they wanted to.
15. The Haymakers in Cambridge was an iconic live music venue for many years. The Council then approved the building of a load of sheltered accommodation opposite and the live music was stopped almost immediately. They then installed triple glazing but the heat when playing there in summer was unbearable, even with air con running. Haven't been there for years although I think they still do a bit of music, albeit very sanitized. Unfortunately, loud live music only appeals to a minority and we all know how intolerant we are as a society.
16.
I have just picked up a Fredric Effects Scrambled Brainz (Ampeg Scrambler clone) from this very forum and it has a blend that goes from 100% dry to 100% wet. But it's not a subtle fuzz, from the limited time I have spent with it: http://www.fredric.c...crambler-clone.
I saw that pedal in the F/S section. When I looked on Youtube the demos (as usual) concentrated almost exclusively on flat out fuzz with very little use of the dry signal. As I said above, I'm getting what I want from a Mooer Fog and a One Control blender which allows me to put in plenty of dry signal. It does a fairly good job of sounding like a conventional bass and a rhythm guitar which is what I was after.
17. Used to love Nils Lofgren's band before he became Springsteen's trampolining sidekick.
18. I avoid the usual suspects of pub rock like the plague. I refuse to play Alright Now, Sweet Home Alabama, Sex on Fire and many, many more. My current band plays covers of songs by the likes of Storyville, Chicken Foot, The Rival Sons, The Boneshakers. The Buddaheads, The Temperance Movement etc. When we do something by a mainstream band it tends to be something less well known. When we do a ZZ Top song, it's Just Got Paid or My Head's in Mississippi - not Sharp Dressed Man or Gimme All your Lovin' .
19.
Cry of Love superb band only 2 albums released real shame
Cry of Love were superb. Audley Freed is one of my favorite guitarists. Another of my favorites is David Grissom from the short lived and now defunct Storyville with Malford Milligan on vocals. We do a few of their songs in our set including; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtD4xi5dOvk
20. He was the most staggeringly talented man. Could play any instrument (probably better than any of his band members), he could sing, dance, write music, perform, produce, choreograph and he had a fabulous imagination and vision. He became a different person on stage which offered him a release from his intense shyness. He seemed isolated by is incredible talent though which is such a tragedy, born out by the manner of his death. There won't be another one like him.
21. The Mooer Fog running through the Mosquite blender gives a very controllable fuzz which also enables the dry signal to be prominent. Can also go to the wild end of the spectrum. Just what I was after for anyone that might be interested.
22. No idea if it has the features you're after but I like the sound of the Digitech Polara.
23. Nothing to lose is there? Amazon have a good returns policy.
