1. Many years ago I had a competition with my Brother to find the worst record. He came up with 'Side by Side' by Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence. That was appalling but I think I pipped him with 'It's Only a Game' by Brian Clough which was mind bogglingly awful. For truly sh*te songs look no further than footballers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9YxYkQPqAg Have some of that!
2.
Was that the gig a while after Katrina had made most of the band homeless? I was there and had great sound all night. Including for Ladysmith who were also on the bill IIR. Must be th perennial corn exchange problem of "where you are sitting". I used to play there a lot in the sixties & seventies with some major acts and the sound was - er - variable depending on the experience of the band and their sound crew and the quality of their PA kit. Trick back then was to play across the room and not very loud. (grin)
Would have been quite a few years before Katrina. Couldn't even make out what Dr.John was saying between songs (and it was nothing to do with his accent either). It wasn't the first time we'd had dreadful sound at the Corn Exchange either. These days we like to go to The Stables at Milton Keynes if there's anything worth seeing. I've had it with big venues.
3. Gave up on big venues many years ago because of awful sound mixes. Made an exception as we had waited years to see Dr. John and got tickets at Cambridge Corn Exchange. Lasted about half an hour and couldn't hear anything remotely acceptable so we walked out. I remember gigs at Wembley Arena where you could hear 10x better in the Gents than you could in the auditorium.
4. Got one and am very happy with it.
5. M82 and Green Rhino sold. Everything else still available.
6. I suppose I first really took notice of Tyrone Porter on the Doobie Brothers Captain and Me album. What really tipped me over the edge was being 10 ft away from Phil Lynott at Brunel University in about 1978. Absolutely blew me away. Coolest dude ever.
7. Ain't gonna BUMP no more with no big fat Woman.......
8. Can only really think of Ashdown when it comes to small valve heads.
9. Do the remaining gig but tell them that in future, once it's in your diary it's a done deal.
10. Great bloke to deal with. A credit to Basschat.
11. I wasn't much of a guitarist but soon realised that the bass was the instrument that suited my character. I fit the John Entwhistle template rather than the Flea one. I've played in bands with some superb musicians and played hundreds of gigs I would never have got as a guitarist.
12. Has to be Pino for me because of the way he seems able to play in any genre at the drop of a hat. I like some of his less well known stuff as well. particularly with Robbie MacIntosh and D'Angelo. He always seems to be the one that other musicians want which must make him rather special. I also had a chat with him many, many years ago and he was such a nice bloke.
13. You could try standing 15 feet away from your cab as well. You'll hear it better than being right on top of it.
14. I'd say the Zoom B3 is great if you can get your 'core' sound out of your amp without taking up patches for preamp or amp modelling. Then you can have 3 free patches for actual effects. You can 'toggle' into different banks but you wouldn't want to try it mid song and one false move could lead to complete disaster.
15. Turn your phone off. The roaming signal through a bass amp isn't a good sound and neither is your mate ringing up to see if you fancy a pint.
16. I must have looked at the ad for this a gazillion times! Cracking amp. I talked myself out of it though because it would have overhung my cab by about 6 inches each side. Bet it sounds the absolute nuts though.
17. A WT550 is an itch that will need scratching at some point.
18. Can't beat this in my book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW9Cu6GYqxo
