1. Could you not keep the Eden head and swap out the 4x10 for another aguilar 1x12?
2. Works alright if you take out most of the bass and a fair bit of low mids eq.. Electric guitar through a Fender Bassman is a classic sound.

Soloing

Leave all that stuff to the flouncing flamingos.
4. Obligatory mention for Fender Rumble.
5. The worst 'song' I've ever heard would undoubtedly be some piece of Gangsta Rap garbage that I managed no more than enough time to turn it off - so I can't actually name it. I loved David Bowie but this is like finger nails down a blackboard for me. Dreadful cacophonous racket.
6. Yep! I use my thumb to play a fair bit on the bottom string as well whether a 4 or 5 string. I also rest my thumb on the pickup if using 2 fingers on the bottom string. Can't get used to having no anchor point and too old to change what isn't broken.
7. I use a fret wrap on my 5 string to mute open strings, or should I say, to cover up lack of technique.
8.
This. They're dreadful.
Probably why they (Pink Floyd) have done so badly over the years.
9. I've got an older Roland Cube 60. Brilliant little thing with plenty of usable sounds from clean (same as the Jazz version I believe) through to crunch and full on distortion. Pretty loud if you need it to be as well. The other amp I have is a first generation Laney LC30. Laney don't have a great name to be honest but the LC30 is an absolute gem and not too dear for an all valve 30 watter.
10. You can pick up how to play just about anything on Youtube. Lots of good lessons on there for players at any level.
11. Grace - Jeff Buckley. No idea what people think is so great about it.
12.
It's a difficult one to explain. What you're saying is that "the one" is definitely on the first beat of the bar, and according to the discussion above, that is what James Brown meant when he coined the phrase I have personally been listening to and playing a lot of what I would describe as funky music, and a lot of the basslines and riffs I gravitate towards start on the offbeat before the first beat of the bar. As there are so many, I started to wonder whether what James Brown meant by "the one" was not in fact the first beat of the bar, but instead the first note of the bassline. Apparently not!
A lot of what make funk 'funky' is playing slightly off the beat. David Garibaldi (drummer with Tower of Power) has an excellent clip on Youtube where he demonstrates moving the snare beat around in any given bar and where the bass drum beat can also be shifted around. It's worth a look.
13. The 'one' is surely the first quarter interval in a 4 beat bar (or other variations). Notes can be played on the beat or before or after, but the 'one' is always in the same place. Alternatively, I could be too thick to understand this thread.
14. Loved The Police but never got into Sting's solo stuff. I thought he'd probably disappeared up his own arse when he came back from the rain forest and started going on about tantric sex and having lute lessons. I should probably check out his solo stuff at some point though.
15. When there were 2 guitarists in my band we had volume issues. One has now moved on but his favourite line was 'I can't get my sound if it's any quieter than that' which was full on bludgeoning everything else. He was a great player but made the band sound crap. Now he has gone and the remaining guitarist is an absolute joy and if anything could do with being a bit louder. Terrific player who has blossomed with his new found freedom and everything is kushty. Drummer isn't a big hitter either and I know we're not as loud as some bands doing similar stuff, but that's fine with me.
16. I'd get a Zoom B3 in your situation. Has some very useable distortion and compression patches and a whole load more including a tuner which you'll probably want as well.
17. Fingers crossed. David Garibaldi is right at the very top of my favourite drummers list.
18. Passat estate is like a cave on wheels. Although basically the same car, the Passat has masses more room than the Audi A4. Audi A6 estate is huge though. You can get a surprising amount in a Toyota Yaris if you want something small and cheap.
19. I just bought a Weber Mywatt all valve head. It's about 30mm wider than my TechSoundsystems cab - the dreaded 'overhang', but together they sound quite amazing.
20. The wtx264 isn't a very loud amp. You could do with a very efficient cab to get the best from it. On your budget I'd go for a second hand Barefaced Compact. Edit Walbassist also has a 4ohm Tecamp 1x15 in the F/S section which would draw full power from your amp. Cracking cab.
21. He just too square to be a jazz cat......man.
22. GAS free, but would probably have a Redwitch Factotum if one came up at reasonable money.
