1. Bit too shouty for me. Have tried to cover a couple of their's in the past which sounded really shouty, so got binned.
2. I've played a Stingray for years and recently acquired a Tokai Hard Puncher. The necks are very similar and the Tokai sounds more like a Precision than many genuine Precisions in my opinion.
3. Beware that you could end up backing countless fret widdlers soloing endlessly over exactly the same 12 bar format (occasionally in a different key from the previous one). Other bass players tend to disappear when this phenomenon occurs.
4. Back to the topic (cough)......why is it that a 200 Watt valve amp outperforms a 600Watt class D? I suspect manufacturers are prone to exaggeration, but is there any scientific explanation?
5. I've had Trace SMX and Ashdown ABM Evo heads in the past. I preferred the Trace which had more versatility with 12 band graphic, 2 really nice preset tones and a cracking good compressor on board. A warm deep tone is Trace SMX in a nutshell.
6. Not the first time indoor pyrotechnics have caused major loss of life.
7. Never wanted to play with a pick until I heard Bobby Vega.
8. I've had exactly the same situation in my band. We recently ditched our rhythm guitarist and when the lead player solos, it started sounding a bit empty. My first experiment was with a Digitech Bad Monkey. Don't lose much tone from this and it isn't toppy when adjusted right. Then had GAS for something else so got a Way Huge Green Rhino. I now have what I want. I didn't want loads of distortion or fuzz but just a bit of break up and both these pedals do the trick. I'd be happy to lend you the Bad Monkey or you could have it off me for £25+ P&P if you wanted. PM me if you like.
9. I first heard Jaco on Weather Report's Birdland. At the time I was immersed in Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Hendrix. I had never played a bass and was a very poor guitarist. Some of the riffs on Birdland blew me away and captured my interest in the bass as an instrument. Can't say I'm much of a fan of his stuff in general but he most definitely opened my eyes (and ears) to something special to me.
10. Cracking little amp these. 2 channels so you can have clean and driven or loud and louder and has great EQ section. Tiny, light, loud and reliable. Have a bump.
11. It does people good to get out of their comfort zone. If that's what Youtube uploads do for them it's fine by me. It's also a handy way of picking up how to play stuff. What's not to like. As with everything, there's an 'off' button if you don't like it.
12. Squeeze's Cool For Cats always makes me laugh that the BBC never caught on when they sung; I kiss her for the first time And then I take her home I'm invited in for coffee And I give the dog a bone
13. How about Roger Glover and Ian Paice then?
14. Best? Too subjective, but I'll lob in Francis Rocco Prestia and David Garibaldi (Tower of Power).
15. He probably bought it from Thomann a couple of days ago.
16. Wanting everything on a plate, immediately, is how the modern world is I'm afraid. Even those who don't get feel that they are somehow entitled.
17. I'd take a good look at the MB 500 Fusion. 2 channels (foot-switchable) is a big plus It's also tiny, loud and very versatile.
18. I'd never get anyone to play it in a band, but purely from my own enjoyment I've been playing/learning Mac the Knife. Love that walking stuff.
19. If you want something small (i.e. class D) to take gigging I'd recommend the Genz Benz Streamliner. Warm, fat tone and plenty of poke. Seem to sell for silly cheap money as well and the only reliability issue I've heard of is the blue LED lights packing up. I've never had this or any other problem with mine.
20. Always use them. Great selection and always super quick.
21. You're not the bloke off The Fast Show with the catchphrase '.......which was nice', are you?
22. Bought a Tokai Precision off Eamon. Top bloke - recommended.
23. Haven't used the Eden pedal but no reason to doubt it would be good. I have a Markbass Super Booster on my pedal board which give a signal boost but also has the VLE and VPF filters which give quite a bit of tone shaping. I have it on all the time when gigging because I like the tone.
24. Blue - I guess if the money is your prime motivator then you play anything to earn the bucks. For me, playing music I don't like is a chore and spoils my enjoyment of something I like doing. Music isn't my livelihood - it's something I want to enjoy.
25. My experience; Better money (sometimes exceptional) but, loads of hanging about, loads of travelling, loads of crap music, loads of listening to boring wedding speeches, loads of hours due to early set ups etc., loads of friction in the band due to all of the above. Expect to be treated like a human jukebox too.
