1. I'm more relaxed listening to other people play which I assume makes it better to listen to. When I'm playing I'm trying to get the job done.
2. Depends a lot on the genre of music. Lyrics in rock and funk can be complete rubbish if the power or groove are strong. Likewise,a lot of ballads can have average music but the lyrics can make the song special. Great music is a combination of both.
3. Tilting your amp or cab up a bit helps if you can't hear too well otherwise the sound is focussed around knee height.
4. Zoom B3.
5. Haven't read through the whole thread so apologies if I've repeated anyone else but, would many people have paid thousands of pounds/dollars, or indeed even heard of Fodera without Victor Wooten?
6. Jazz is a big miss for me. Some of it I love and some of it sounds like tipping a load of musical instruments off a cliff. It's such a huge genre I wouldn't really know where to start or find the stuff that interests me. Same goes classical music. There are plenty of other genres I don't like much and can't be bothered to explore and other stuff that leaves me thinking 'why would you want to listen to that?'
7. The man has gone. What song does it for you? For me; Lady Grinning Soul (with the gorgeous bassline from Trevor Bolder.
8. Massive shock. The most creative artist I've ever known. Don't really have any words to describe how sad I feel.
9. Didn't he come across the band in a club somewhere and just ask them if they wanted to be his backing band? That's what I heard.
10. Something out of the Phil Jones stable might fit the bill.
11. One guy who really caught my attention is Robin Everhart (ex of The Rival Sons). Nice blend of funk and rock in hiss basslines.
12. Love my Tecamp stuff. My Black Jag is my 'go to' amp and is always 100% reliable. Great shame if they disappear.
13. Read up a bit about Learning Styles. We all learn differently. Some people are auditory learners and listening is their preferred method. Myself, I am a visual learner so writing down chords, structure, riffs etc. helps the information to stick because I can visualise what I have written down. Kinesthetic learners like to be on the move so walking whilst processing information helps. Males tend to be kinesthetic learners. It's a fascinating subject.
14. One man's meat is another man's poison. The bloke is entitled to his opinion but should keep it to himself. There were probably plenty of other people who liked the sound.
Merely my personal experience with multi effects units for live application. Blue
Have you used a B3 live or are you talking about effects units in general. I have a B3 and it's fine for gigs and certainly doesn't make any noise.
16.
Not having girlfriend trouble by any chance? Been there, done that!
Never any problems with Mrs Japhet, but previous bandmates girlfriends..........jeeez.... don't get me started!
17. Do any band members have a wife/girlfriend who; 1) Rings up very 5 minutes to find out what time you'll be home. 2) Will sulk when told the band won't be doing any Taylor Swift covers. 3) Comes to gigs, gets totally bladdered and then runs off crying because she's not the centre of attention. 4) Comes to gigs, doesn't get totally bladdered but thinks she's a backing vocalist in spite of sounding like a 3 a.m. cat fight.
18. I'd have made the slidy thing for her clothes and put all my music gear in the wardrobe. Hope she never finds this post - I'll be living in the shed for weeks.
19. I play in a rock covers band but my musical tastes are much wider than that. I love a bit of jazz funk, motown, blues, soul, prog etc. and play along to those genres given the opportunity.
20. Just got a Diago patch cable kit from them. Good service.
21.
Is the problem that "sloppiness" is a pejorative term? Santana plays in very free time on occasion, but "sloppiness" would be an excessively harsh judgement.
Same goes for one of my all time favorite guitarists Robin Trower. His style and sound are, in my experience, completely unique and what some would perceive as 'sloppiness' is actually a very refined style which gives bags of character to his playing.
22. I think it suits my character. I'm not a 'look at me' type at all and would rather lurk at the back but make a valid contribution. The others are more than welcome to show off and strut about but it's not for me. I remember hearing basslines like Leland Sklar on Stratus by Billy Cobham and thinking it was the absolute essence of a powerful piece of music and wanting to be able to play it.
23. Nobody makes me want to learn to play with a pick except Bobby Vega, and when I hear him I REALLY want to play with a pick.
24. I have no idea how he plays that stuff and sings at the same time. I'd love to hear him play different stuff as well since he has been pigeon-holed as a one trick pony which is way off the mark.
25.
What cab do you use Japhet?
Techsoundsystems ND 2x12. Must be full of helium.
