We use a Tascam DR 05 and get very good results with it. Dead simple and we've got a decent live demo for next to nothing.

Our drummer uses a kick port (google it). Great bit of kit.

Is it any better than the Korg Pitchclip? I use one of these and it handles a low B fine and costs roughly 25% of the TC one.

Something like a Zoom B3 will keep you amused for hours and you'll find out what all the effects do for the price of 1 single, stand alone pedal.

Does it cost you to rehearse? It usually does, so I'd view it as a good PR opportunity that costs a bit of rehearsal money.

Love my current rig(s) - see sig. The one I miss most is Trace 300SMX into Trace 1x15 and 4x10 cabs. No idea how it would stack up today, and certain that I couldn't cart it around.

Quick suggestion - record your remaining gigs (we use a Tascam DR 05) so that your new drummer can get up to speed quickly. Brilliant little thing for around £70 which will be worth its' weight in gold.

I think it's also worth mentioning that the opposite applies when playing in a larger band. I have, in the past, played in a 13 piece band with full brass section and the discipline there is to play little but make it all count. I now plyin a 3 piece+ vocals band and have to be busier and have more range of sounds available for various songs.

My main use of pedals is to repel GAS. It's way cheaper than guitars and amps and takes up very little storage space when you never use them.

Adding a distortion pedal with the 'gain' knob turned right up and your amp running flat out will be perfect for folk. Sorted.

For warm and beefy I'd go for a Genz Streamliner. Tecamp or a GK Fusion sit nicely in a live mix.

I like the Markbass Super Booster which gives a nice warm boost and also has tone shaping via the VLE and VPF filters.

Level 42 at Wembley Arena circa 1995. Total disappoiintment Cambridge Corn Exchange sound mix ruined Doctor John circa 2005. Walked out. Steve Earle at Cambridge CE around 98 was utter durge. Walked out. Nazareth (circa 1984) Hammersmith Odean. Couldn't hear for weeks afterwards. Mate knew Darryl Sweet the drummer so tickets were free (at least £200 too dear.

Seen quite a few shockers, but Welsh Prog rockers Man (think they were Welsh anyway) stand head and shoulders above all challengers for my worst ever gig. Shocking.

Changed to Elixirs and they last for ages. The initial twang goes quite soon (thankfully) but no further degradation for months.
