  1. Topic was done and dusted with the first post!
  2. I think it's a cultural thing. Bassists are generally happy to stay at the back and provide the foundation for guitarists and the like to, well.......show off more often than not. There are good guitarists and bad ones, and in my experience the good ones know what not to play and know when to shut up. I'd assume that the ones who crave the spotlight on social media are mostly the ones who don't know when to shut up.
  3. Used to use a DC Brick. Faultless, but when I got a TC Nove Dynamics and a Markbass Booster I needed 12v so switched to a T Rex Fuel Tank. Never an ounce of trouble. DC Brick is for sale by the way (crafty plug eh?)
  4. Phew! That was a close one!
  5. I'm with Bubinga5 on this one. In that price range you won't beat a Lakland 55 01.
  6. Have never, ever wanted a red bass in 30 years until I saw this. Someone buy it quick please - could be grounds for divorce if I weaken.
  7. Get him a dictionary and tell him to look up 'compromise'.
  8. 1970's pop duo Peters and Lee were really England footballers Martin 'The Ghost' Peters and Francis 'Shortarse' Lee. The dark glasses were used to hide a nasty black eye Martin Peters received from Leeds Utd hard man Billy Bremner at Elland Road in the FA Cup. Bremner re-invented himself as Leftie Folk Shoutie Protest Bloke Billy Brag in 1981 when he was forced to retire with cartilage problems.
  9. Old Etonians Chas and Dave went under-cover and worked in a pie and mash shop in Hackney to cultivate the Norf London accents. Chas (aka Crispin Hemsley-Trustfund) recently described the experience as 'ghastly' but added 'One does what one has to in times of economic uncertainty and fiscal strife'.
  10. Sounds very Gallien Kreuger to me.
  11. Bill Clinton never had any political aspirations until his brother, George, formed his band and called it Parliament. The closest Bill ever got to George's achievements was when his Government was described as 'One nation under an imbecile'.
  12. Wonder why Trevor Horn gets a good bass sound in his mixes? Hmmmm.............
  13. I know (and have played with) musicians who can remember songs they haven't played for years. Chords, solos, structure, the whole lot. Some of us aren't that lucky though. There seems to be some strange belief that a few cues and reminders constitute cheating or unprofessionalism. I personally don't need any reminders in a full set list, but have had the odd bit of paper knocking around when we're doing new songs.
  14. When they are not on tour, The Gypsy Kings make ends meet collecting scrap metal and bare knuckle boxing. Hard bastards they are.
  15. Mate of mine was very tight with Mac. By all accounts he was a great bloke.
  16. Roqsolid will make you a cover if you send them a set of measurements.
  17. The simplicity of Floyd's rhythm section is one of the band's main strengths. Nick Mason is one of the dullest drummers in living memory but it all just seems to work perfectly with Waters' writing. I suppose it all came from a time when bass in particular was largely ignored by the public.
  18. It's so hard playing with a drummer who can't keep time. The drummer in my band slows down at the same place in the same songs gig after gig. I find that I speed up at this point to try to drag him along which can make it even more of a mess. Drives me nuts but I wouldn't quit because of it. We've had a couple of deps play with us too who have been on the button and it's a truly liberating experience.
  19. I prefer Led Zeppelin's cover of Rolf Harris's Stairway to Heaven.
  20. What a gorgeous thing. Sorry I missed it.
  21. Line 6 LD15 is a good piece of kit. Loads of very usable sounds available and effects. Can plug in an MP3 or whatever and play along. Only thing it could do with is an onboard tuner.
  22. Maddie Prior thought of the name for her band while she was working as a riveter on the Humber bridge.
  23. Jethro Tull unipod Ian Anderson has 2 twin sisters, Pamela and Gillian. All 3 are identical. His sisters can't hop like he can though.
