  4. 100 guitar rigs are very 'old hat' now iny opinion. Marshalls in particular need to be cranked to get them singing and it's precisely because of this that they've developed 25-30 watt valve amps. Having said that, one of our previous guitarists played a Les Paul through a cranked Marshall Bluesbreaker combo (30 watt I think) a few times and it was deafening. I thought it sounded fine at lower volumes but he obviously didn't!
  5. Guitars can make a difference too. I always find that a loud Les Paul has a huge, fat sound that hogs a load of frequencies. The only success I've had with them is with guitarists that are prepared to stay out of my frequencies, but they are few and far between.

  7. Have used Behringer gear for PA for ages now. Power amps, Graphic, Monitors, Feedback Destroyer etc.. Never had any problems with anu of it.

  12. The one that has really blown me away is a lowly Valeton FET preamp pedal. It fattens everything up quite beatifully and makes every frequency sing. It is also a buffer so nothing goes missing in the chain. Think I paid £40 for it off ebay and that is a mega bargain. It can also make a Strat sound as big as a Les Paul.

  15. First proper gig with my Talman last night, and first gig for over 2 years for the band too. Really enjoyed playing it. Super comfortable and fun to play. Put it through my 'little' rig which is Genz Streamliner 600 into a GK 210 cab and a few pedals (Ampeg Scrambler and Valeton FET preamp). I couldn't hear what I was playing because of being swamped in vocal and guitar foldback, but by all accounts it sounded epic out front. Good to be ut and about again, and best of all my back was OK at the end. Happy days.

  20. Gave the Talman a run out at a full volume practice yesterday. Holy Moly! It pumps out the sound and has a very hot output. Super comfortable to play and sounds huge. This is going to see plenty of action when the gigs pick up again.

  22. I use an old(ish) Line 6 LD15. I have it in my home office. If I'm trying to learn stuff my PC plugs straight in via a mini jack and off you go. It has plenty of different sounds and usual Line 6 type effects bundle so can make all sorts of noises. I'd imagine you could pick one of these up for peanuts.
  23. Mrs Japhet has been brilliant. We have a reciprocal arrangement where she indulges her expensive and time consuming passion for horses, and I do music. I help her whenever I can and she's very supportive of me. She used to come to loads of gigs but doesn't much any more. Too many pi55ed up dickheads for her liking and I can't say I blame her. I buy whatever gear I want and can afford and she pays for all of her horsey stuff. Works absolutely fine.
  24. Talman turned up today (a day after buying it). Looks like brand new even though it's 2nd hand. First impressions are excellent. I'm new to short scale but immediately felt very comfortable and fun to play. Sounds pretty huge too which is a nice surprise. It's quite weighty but certainly not a back breaker. Can't wait to crank it up at next rehearsal now.
