  6. Paul Denman certainly influenced me with his playing for Sade. I got a Stingray which I'll never sell because I loved the sounds he got out of his. I also really liked his 'less is more' approach to slap rather than the popular trend to smother whole tracks and even albums with it. He somehow managed to play in an understated way that would really grab your attention.
  7. Probably been mentioned before but no harm in mentioning again, Bob Babbitt. So often overlooked with James Jamerson hogging the limelight, but BB came up with some fabulous bass lines like Mercy, Mercy Me for Marvin Gaye.

  21. A bit out of left field this one but a bassline that really caught my attention back in 1976. Later found out it was Chuck Rainey so no wonder it's a groove monster. Takes a while to build up but then really hits the sweet spot. Cracking album by the way.

  25. 100 guitar rigs are very 'old hat' now iny opinion. Marshalls in particular need to be cranked to get them singing and it's precisely because of this that they've developed 25-30 watt valve amps. Having said that, one of our previous guitarists played a Les Paul through a cranked Marshall Bluesbreaker combo (30 watt I think) a few times and it was deafening. I thought it sounded fine at lower volumes but he obviously didn't!
