  1. It's more important to prove to the Facebook world that you were there than to take in the experience don'tcha know.
  2. I'd be on this like a tramp on chips if I wasn't catastrophically skint.
  3. Sounds like a slightly more politically correct Black and White Minstrels dance troupe.
  4. Randy California was 16 when he joined Santana if memory serves me right.
  5. What amp and cab would you recommend for this Jack? I'd say an SVT and an 8x10. Bit tricky recording it though.
  6. Was going to mention Matt Schofield. They are such a talented band but when I've seen them I'm always left thinking they would be so much better with a bass in there.
  7. I use a Broughton high pass filter which does the same as the Thumpinator. I use it near the front of my signal chain to stop sub frequencies messing with the signal going to other pedals. I don't use it all of the time but find that it help in certain situations like hollow stage areas when the bass can become a bit unruly.
  8. I've not tried one but I like the sound of the EBS Reidmar.
  9. The feel comes from playing in front of or sometimes behind the beat. It makes the bass drum and snare stand out by not cluttering up the sound but also serves to give the music a swing or lilt. Don't be afraid to leave spaces either, especially under the 1st and 2nd beats of a bar and you can offset this with clusters of notes under beats 3 and 4. This is what I've found, although opinions may well vary.
  10. When I played in a functions band (many years ago) we were always looked after apart from one quite astonishing incident. We went down to the South coast to play a function for an obscenely wealthy individual. He had personaally finance the UK entry in the Americas Cup ocean going yacht race one year - yes, that wealthy! We'd driven a long way and it was a long day. We were given a plate of cheese sandwiches (1 each) and that a bottle of beer was £2. We were surrounded by toffs spraying each other with bottles of Bollinger and throwing platefuls of lobster in the bin. Quite bizarre really. We'd charged a decent but not extortionate fee but we really were made to feel like the hired help. One of those things you often wonder if it really happened - but it did.
  11. You could turn down the volume pot on the active bass but it might affect your sound.
  12. I've seen Robin Trower a few times in recent years and watching this old, grey bloke come on stage and then proceed to melt your face with his guitar work is a wonderful thing to behold, especially since I'm not that far behind him in years. If people want to pay to watch you do your thing, I couldn't care less how old you are.
  13. As far as I know, Walter Trout has been using the same Squier Strat for decades.
  14. I'm sure it sounds great. I had a MB Fusion 500 which was lovely. I only sold it to pay some bills and have regretted it on many occasions. I'm not a fan of the motorised controls though - looks like a big repair bill waiting to happen to me.
  15. Was interested in a Fusion 550. Think I'll give it a miss now.
  16. He did some lovely stuff for sure. Lady Grinning Soul is one of my favorite ever basslines.
  17. Saw Snow Boy and The Latin Section last night. Fabulous. If you like Latin/Cuban/Afro stuff you must see these. Drums, congas, bongos, Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass and Keys making a joyful sound. Best gig I've been to in ages, not least because it's such an unusual style.
  18. Combo and separates both have their merits, obviously. Separates you have to connect everything up and you don't forget to bring the speaker lead etc.. I've had Eich gear in its' earlier guises (TechSoundsystems and Tecamp) for years and it's all been absolute quality.
  19. I wish I could tell you in detail how totally (dare I say spookily) spot on your assertion is.
  20. The funny thing was that he also gave the guitarist a lecture on how to EQ his amp. The guitarist then went and fiddled about with the EQ knobs on his amp until the Sir Richard Head III bloke gave him a big thumbs up. The guitarist hadn't actually altered anything at all on the amp but Mr Sir Richard Head III told him after the gig that his sound was immeasurably better in the 2nd set. This was a few years back but I think he's now been banned from the pub for pi55ing too many people off.
  21. Sounds like a 6 stringer masquerading as a bass player to me. I had one experience with some bloke in the audience who I'd been warned about. During the break between sets he told me that what I was playing sounded OK, but my technique needed a lot of work. He offered to give me lessons (which I had been told he frequently did even though he couldn't play a note), so I feigned eagerness and asked for his phone number. When he gave it to me I dropped it straight on the floor and walked off.
  22. One of my favorites is Lee Sklar. One minute he's playing one note per bar behind James Taylor and the next he's laying down the groove on Billy Cobham's Stratus. No wonder he's stayed busy all these years.
