  1. Here's a bit more for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIPcXPzUnxQ&list=RDnIPcXPzUnxQ&start_radio=1&t=0
  2. Much as I'd love to see SD, I really have had it with big venues. Last few times I've been to Wembley or the O2 have been shockingly expensive with atrocious sound every time.
  3. When I hit a brick wall I went and had some lessons. I wanted to do something completely outside of my remit and ended up learning to sight read (pretty badly) and playing a lot of Bach cello pieces. Really enjoyable experience for a self taught, play by ear, weekend warrior pub rocker.
  4. I've had a few issues with buzz (at particular venues) so I'm waiting for a noise gate to turn up which I'd like to try between the preamp and power amp. At said venues I found that in one particularly noisy situation, running my entire effects board through the loop eliminated the problem, but the overall sound was different. I have a T Rex Chameleon power supply which has isolated outputs but I had to daisy chain a couple of pedals which is probably a contributing factor (as is my single coil bass), but £24 for a noise gate might get me a cheap fix.
  5. I'm pretty sure that gig was at The Forum in Kentish Town (or could have been in it's previous guise as The Town and Country Club). I was there. Really great night with Randy California, Lesley West, Steve Hunter and a load more, but Peter Haycock was just sublime and Livingstone Brown was outstanding.
  6. One Control Hookers Green is a nice pedal IMO. I'm interested in trying a Caline Orange Burst which is very cheap but is meant to sound like a BB preamp.
  7. I use my Genz Benz Streamliner 600 as my backup. I'd be happy to use it any time any gig. It has as much grunt as my main amp which I think is important. They're a cheap amp second hand and it seems the sound is a bit 'marmite', but I love the sound and I love marmite too.
  8. I convinced myself to stop buying basses and amps but allowed myself to dabble with effects pedals but my God, I've taken to that like a duck to water!
  9. I got mine used off the forum for £900. I think they are around £1500 new although I don't know if they're still being made. Weber get top notch reviews from their customers though and the Mywatt is a seriously good amp.
  10. I've got the Weber Mywatt 200 which is a clone of the Hiwatt. Fabulous sounding amp with the advantage of not weighing a ton and not being ridiculously expensive. Highly recommended for anyone looking for that sound. Sounds especially good with the Normal and Bright channels joined by a patch lead.

    Compressors

I use my Keeley more as a limiter and the LED indicated that noon was about right for threshold with the gear I use and the way I play. I didn't like it to sound too squashed so the ratio was about right at noon too but like I said, I found the gain a bit lively (creating unwanted buzz) so knocked it back to around 10 o'clock. I like the pedal and it had a lot to live up to because it replaced a TC Electronic Nova Dynamics which was awesome. In some ways I wish I still had that but it was a bit big, 12v and total overkill.

I find the 'gain' a bit lively on my Keeley. I have it at about 10 o'clock and the other 2 dials at 12.
  13. I use isolated supplies but some pedals share an outlet. I have one amp with a ground lift which helps, but my preferred amp has no ground lift which is a shame. It only seems to be an issue at a couple of venues though, so I generally knock off the volume on the guitar between songs. I doubt anybody else notices it anyway.

    Cheap combos

There's a cracking Genz Benz Contour 500 combo in the F/S section. Silly cheap at £170 I think and a great bit of kit. I have no coneection to the seller btw.
  15. I've found the electrics in some venues can cause a lot of hum from my amp and on a couple of occasions running my pedal board through the effects loop has helped. As a rule I run the pedal board before the input though.
  16. I've always preferred flangers to phasers. Seem to get a much richer sound. I have an old Soundblox (Source Audio) flanger which can create all sorts of effects.
  17. Have just picked up a Valeton OC-10 off ebay for £40. Very impressed by it both in build quality and sound. Very close to the Boss OC2 IMO. Would ideally have like 1 octave down and 1 up since I don't see much point in 2 octaves down on bass, especially in analogue format, but 1 octave down on this is lovely.
  18. Don't know about the Loop Core, but I recently acquired a NUX Time Core (Delay) pedal which is a cracking pedal and the build quality is top notch.
  19. My definition of new music is 'music I haven't heard yet', which could be something brand new or something written 150 years ago.
  20. That was the Laughing Gnome, not an elf
  21. The word is out Al. I've just picked one up for £40 to go on my experimental board. Trying to get sounds I like from a bunch of cheap pedals which is fun.
  22. I've just picked up a used Valeton OC 10 off ebay for £40. Looking forward to trying it out. As said earlier in the thread, cheap pedals doing octave up have always sounded horrible to me so I'll tend towards using 1 and 2 octaves down from higher up the fretboard.
  23. I liked the GK MB500 Fusion with it's foot switchable second channel which could be set up for drive/boost. Wish I still had it but they don't crop up very often.
  24. 60 this year. Oldest in the band by 15 years. Couldn't care less what people think about age - if it sounds good and people like it, do it. Do feel a bit self conscious playing 'Teenage Kicks' though and tend to look at the floor or the amp settings quite a bit during that one.
