Located in Thurso up the top end of Scotland. Seems to be a case of he doesn’t know what he has. I’ve messaged him to tell him what it’s really worth: https://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-bass-electric-guitar/1270827090?utm_campaign=socialbuttons&utm_content=app_ios&utm_medium=social&utm_source=sms

I use a Peavey Mark IV, which is solid state, but weighs more than both my guitarists’ valve heads. It’s worth it for sound and sheer volume it puts out, and I prefer the aesthetic of a bigger head. It only cost £100, and I know know that I couldn’t get that same value buying a lightweight head.

I like the look of the Dimension, but I've no interest in the pickup-EQ combo. I'd like one in natural/maple with a Precision pickup and volume & tone controls.

New Fender Signature Bass - Justin Meldal-Johnsen RW Mustang Bass

JMJ did a Q&A on Talkbass where he talked about using a sonic blue '67 Mustang, so I guess it's based on that. Edit: it was Daphne Blue. -

I love it, but that's a mad amount of money for a Mustang -
Well initially I was looking at the MW but cast my net wider after drawing no success. The straight squier vm Mustangs also seemed to be around the £325 - £350 mark if you could find one. Just a bit surprised really when Squier vm Jags were £190 to £211ish new. Though I have to note that the fit and finish on the MW model though Indonesian does feel a notch up quality wise over the current MII Squiers.
Is the MW not also made in Indonesia? I thought it was essentially the same as the VM Mustang, with a different pickup and fingerboard. The VM Ps and Js are around the £340-mark, with the Bass VI over £400 new, and are all Indonesian. If it's out of the same factory as the VMs, which is likely, then £325 or thereabouts wouldn't surprise me. About £100 was added to the street price of most Fenders (including Squiers), about 2 years ago. At the time I'd been looking at a J Mascis Jazzmaster at around £350, and seemingly overnight the price had gone up to around £425. The guy in the shop said they'd had something through from Fender UK telling them that the retail price was to be increased. A JMJM now is about £480. Conversely, I bought a Jazzmaster Deluxe at the start of the year for £336, which is made up of the same parts as the J Mascis, in a different finish. I can't quite fathom why two guitars with the same components have such vastly different prices.

I liked the Wilkinson BBOT with the exception of the hideously tacky-looking Wilkinson logo. I took the saddles & screws off and put them on a blank bridge plate. I like the stock bridge that comes on a Squier CV bass, but it doesn't offer a lot in terms of adjustment.

The prices of all Fender models have shot up in the last few years, with Squier Classic Vibes going from to the low £300s to over £400 in the space of about a year, as an example.

Which Mustangs are you looking at? The Fender Japan FSR Mustang Bass retailed around £500 recently, which I think is a fair price. It can still be found online too: http://www.scayles.co.uk/ProductDetails?ID=Mzg4MQ==
That's right. It's a 32" scale but the "bum" makes it longer than my P Bass for example. If your gig bag or case fits a P Bass or a Jazz exactly, the Jarman won't fit.
So the neck is shorter than a J or P then?
-
Sorry to bump an old post, but how does the scale work on this? As I understand, the scale length is the distance from nut to the 12th fret doubled, so does that mean that the neck is shorter than a normal P or J Bass? I ask because I saw a picture of one online next to a 51-style P Bass (34" scale), and the Jarman was much bigger, but I suppose that was down to body size. Pic halfway down this page: https://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=104568&start=15

Took a quick picture earlier with the Fender aged white pickup covers and knobs.

The stock pickup in the Matt Freeman is excellent. I bought a white one as a backup to my black one a few years ago which came with a 1/4 Pounder fitted, but I immediately put the stock pickup back in; it's got a great character to it.

I had read that Squier were discontinuing the signature models as well. Gary Jarman of The Cribs has a signature model, and he said as such on the Offset Guitar forum where he's a member. I'd wanted a J Mascis for some time but when I saw this it was a no brainer. I've sourced a replacement pickguard, as well as pickup covers, knobs and a switch tip for about £20, giving me a total saving of around £130. The Mascis has some nice flame on the neck, but there was nothing to separate them. I still can't figure out why there's such a gap in price for what is ultimately the same guitar.

Another shot in different lighting:

After selling my CV 50s Precision, I was in the market for a new guitar. I wanted a Classic Vibe Telecaster, but struggled to find one in my budget. I was due to get a Vintage Modified Jazzmaster, but while doing some research online I stumbled across this model. It's a new model for 2017, so there isn't a huge amount of information online - it's not even on the Fender website! One thing that I found was a comment on another forum stating that it's basically a Squier J Mascis in a different colour scheme, so I duly went to the guitar shop to check it out. Comparing them side by side, there's nothing to split them; the tremolo is in the same position (closer to the bridge), it has a Gibson-style Adjustomatic bridge, the pickups have adjustable pole pieces, jumbo frets on a satin finish neck, and the same headstock decal (slightly different to the VM). The kicker? The Deluxe was £336, nearly £150 less than the J Mascis! I'm not crazy about the gold pickguard and black plastic parts, but for that saving I'm not going to complain. In fact, I've already got a mint green guard on the way. It sound great with the P90s (as opposed to Jazzmaster single coils), and the neck is a dream to play. I've restrung it with 12-56s so the set up needs some adjustment, but it's great to play regardless.

One's appeared on Gumtree in Glasgow just within the hour. I just sold my CV 50s Precision with a view to buying a Telecaster, but now I'm considering spending it on a Telecaster Bass.
