Cleaning permanent marker off a fret board
Jono Bolton replied to Jono Bolton's topic in Repairs and Technical
Cheers guys, I've got both of those kicking about in the cupboard somewhere so I'll give them a bash over the weekend. -
Yep, you read that right, I've been given a Marlin Sidewinder (yep, a guitar!) to clean up by a mate, and someone's drawn on the fret board with a marker. I've had a go at it with lemon oil but that's not done much, I would normally go for nail polish remover for marker pen but I don't know how that would affect the rosewood as it's quite a porous wood. Any suggestions?

Some belated feedback for Jose, I bought a set of Gotoh Jazz Bass pickups back in September, but I've only just got my amp back, so I've not been able to test them out until now! The transaction was quick and pain-free, Jose's communication was spot on, the pickups arrived quickly and well packaged, and most importantly, they sound brilliant, lovely burpy Jazz tone! Excellent BC'er, transact with confidence!

Bought a set of Rotosound Strings from Lozz, he was selling 1 new and 3 used sets together but was happy to split and sell me just the new set, paid him Tuesday evening and they were in my hands this morning. Excellent fuss free transaction, quick and easy. Top bloke!

Fender pickguard, bridge & pup cover screws
Jono Bolton replied to BetaFunk's topic in Repairs and Technical
I don't know that they're not the same screws, whenever I've had covers on eith my P or J they've always appeared to be the same as the scratchplate screws. Screws are usually sold in packs of 20 in my experience so there should be a good few left over for the covers once the scratchplate's on. -
You could always have a wee word with The Bass Doc, he's made custom scratchplates for countless BC members, I had celluloid tort plate made up for my P Bass earlier this year, it's excellent. Mint green doesn't actually look green, as Mr Fingers said, it's more "off white" than anything else. I reckon it would look pretty tidy on sonic blue, not as nice as as tortoiseshell though
It was actually pobrien_ie that was talking about the scratchplate, not Mr Fingers! Sorry pobrien_ie!
I always say: "when you start with something, don't halfass your way through it, but do it thoroughly!" and like they say in dutch: "Goedkoop is duurkoop" (translated it comes down to: "when something is priced low, so it looks like a bargain, you can be sure there will be some issues with it down the way, and you'll probably end up buying the more expensive, but correct/higher quality thing you were going to buy first")
I'd second that. If you're going to do it, you'll be much happier doing it properly, if you try cutting corners here and there, it may end up costing you more in the long run.

This is going to be the balls. I love Sonic Blue, is this having a proper celluloid tortoiseshell scratchplate?
It is a fender. Suppose I could see what its like blank though. Also guys I'm trying to do this on the cheap so exotic woods were out from the start!
I think we may have the same bass Made in Mexico, mid-noughties? I go through stages of liking and then hating the colour, I've seen sage green Strats and Teles with maple necks but I don't think maple would look right on the Jazz. Mine's one of the most comfortable basses I've ever played, I really should get some pickups in it. Like I said before, if it's a Fender then putting a decal on the headstock is fine in my opinion, but it's your choice. I just don't understand the point of putting them on bitsas or other brands.

Is it a Fender Jazz? I've got a sage green Fender Jazz. If it is you can justify the Fender decal being on there, I don't know why you would put one on if it's not. That said, I've always loved the look of blank headstocks.

I finally look to be in a position to get some new pickups for my Jazz. I've already got my Precision with Wizard Thumper for making noise, so I'm looking for some more reserved vintage-style tones out of my Jazz. I've narrowed down my choices based on budget to either the Wizard 64s or the Fender Originals, has anyone else compared the two? Both have favourable reviews, and both can be bought for £70 a set. In a seperate thread on here regarding P Bass pickups, the Fender originals got a few more votes than the Wizard Trad, or the Seymour Duncan SPB-1, would it be much the same for the Jazz pickups? Any advice would be great!
