1.
On the Japanese version - I've played one and it was really good - I've not seen one in blue however, and didn't know they were available.
I found this body on ebay, which started the juices flowing. Oh, JLP, lovely work there! I'm usually a fan of brown tortoise-shell on a white bass, such as a P or Jazz, but it looks wrong on the Mustang, the white pearl looks much better.
2.
The fella from (not very) Good Charlotte has a bass clef tattoo'd behind one of his ears, nearly put me off getting mine done. I don't think small tatt's that are visible but tucked away look bad, but that nasty, chavvy trend of innitials on the side of the neck is a bit rank. Just shows a completly blind willingness to follow a trend - ANY trend. A friend of mine has a couple of stars behind her ear and that looks ok, but she's got plenty of other tatt's and piercings to distract you from it anyways! 'Scuse the blood, she sent me this when it was brand spankin'!
There was a guy in the paper the other week who'd robbed a police car, not realising there was a video camera in the back. It didn't take the police long to catch him because upon viewing the tape they found they had a pretty good shot of not just his face, but also the tattoo on his neck of his surname and date of birth
3. I recently bought a set of Prosteels (55-105 methinks), and I'm another convert. Lovely zing and better sustain than the nickels I had been using previously. I don't like the coloured ball ends though, I know it's supposed to help you identify which string it is but really, how inexperienced do you have to be to not be able to order stings by thickness without the need for individually coloured ball ends? It looks so sh*t, I'll need to get a bass with through body stringing to hide them.
4.
this kind of shady activity really pisses me off! gives us up here a bad name! there is decent poster here from, Aberdeen, Ayr, Dundee, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, Glasgow etc. in future folks if you buy anything up here maybe worth getting in touch to see if any of us can pick-up, check or even contact the seller. andy
Seconded.
5. I'd agree with axesrus, they offer great service. I would give them an email first and explain what you're after, they'll probably be able to send you out a set with 2 volumes and a tone, which would save you having to buy two sets. Alternatively, buy a set of 2 volume knobs, and I'll you a matching black tone knob for free, I believe I have one spare.
6. My vote goes for brown (not red, and I really can't stress that enough) tortoise shell. Easily the best match for a 3 tone sunburst, IMO, of course
7.
you'll have to order one from Japan for a decent colour; I agree red and white aren't the best selection
Nuts, I was hoping that wasn't the case. Where can I order one from?
8. Does anyone know if the Japanese re-issues are still available in blue? I've been doing some scouting about online because I'm looking to try one when I expand my collection at the start of next year, but I can only find the Fiesta Red and Vintage White, both of which don't really cut it for me. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
9. I've been trying to work out most of Glassjaw's 'Worship and Tribute' by ear for the last couple of weeks.
10. Westone Thunder. What a beauty! I've been gassing over one of these for a while, and the sound would suit the new band I'm standing in for at the mo, and this listing is doing feck all to help! If I didn't need to pay out a similar amount of cash next week for Council Tax I'd be all over this. EDIT: Although this is an absolute minter, and right on my doorstep to boot. I bet when I have the cash together to put in a bid in a couple of weeks, there'll be nothing going
11. The string spacing is interesting to say the least
12. I'd like to know a bit more about the P Bass body too. What model is it from, and which country was it made in? Also, don't suppose you could get a picture up of the Jazz scratchplate? Cheers
13.
Basically it was crushed sufficiently hard to punch the tone control through into the cavity: I have all the little fragments of the original so I'm going to attempt a bit of scratchplate jigsaw, just to keep it original. That said, the tort's a good fit and way better looking. The scary screw ends are a bit of an issue when playing with a pick & doing palm-edge muting, which I do occasionally, but I think shorter screws and/or a shim in the neck pocket will be the way forward. A cover would interfere with pick style playing (well, my hamfisted bludgeoning) and also I'd have to drill the body, which I don't want to do. Interesting detail - SQ Squiers had scratchplates drilled for a pup cover, but no holes in the body. J.
So was the bass in a hard case and they still managed to do that much damage? Royal Mail never cease to amaze me with the ways they come up with to break stuff. By the way, to you loan out your carpets to porn shoots?
14. I voted sunburst, but I'm also partial to black or white, although my Jazz is 'Sage Green'. It's okay, but I have to say, I'm a fan of more 'traditional' colours, although anything that's Sonic Blue does funny things to me
15. Bloody hell Jon, that's a belter! You want to get a bridge cover on there though, those saddles look like they'd give you knuckles a proper shredding. How did Royal Fail wreck the w/b/w scratchplate, by the way?
16.
I would be interested for £16, and I live in glasgow saving any postage, could meet up. Were bouts in Glasgow are you?
PM'd
17. No, there's no issue with the locks here, just the strap width, I have fairly narrow shoulders and it just looks a bit odd IMO. Any takers?
18. I recently got a Dimarzio clip-lock strap and bought a 3" one, not realising just how wide it would be. I've decided to get a 2" one instead, so I'm looking to offload this one. It cost me £24 the other day, but I'm only looking for £16, which is the cost of the 2" one. Alternatively, if you have a 2" stap and fancy trading for mine, that'd be dandy. Any colour, so long as it's black
19. Sold to Sam (budgetbassist)!
20. Have you tried Highly Strung? Those Jazz pickguards are the perfect size for an MIM Jazz, screw holes line up perfectly and everything. I've got one on my Jazz just now, and it cost me all of a fiver.
21. I've got a set of Dunlop Straploks that I'm not using, chrome in colour and great condition. Simple to use and a quality modification for your bass to use. I bought them without the instructions but I was able to assemble them easily, and I'm really thick. I paid £15.99 for them, I'm not really sure what resale on these would be, but if anyone's interested PM me an offer. Cheers Jono
22. A plus 1 for APC, which is good considering the crap I had last time I used them. £45 and a few pence to deliver a 40kg Ashdown cab from Glasgow to Keighley, Yorks. Collected it from the flat, had no problems arrranging a collection (at my convenience for once!), and the driver (who hadn't been told the weight and was on his own) carried the cab downstairs (well, in the lift) by himself and didn't say he'd need to collect it another time (I was at work, my girlfriend was at home). Delivered on time too, I'm very happy with them now. Not quite sure I like/understand the whole volumetric weight charging policy but the buyer paid postage so it's no skin off my nose. To be honest, I think the problem I had last time was just with the Kilmarnock depot I used last time, the Glasgow one was fine.
23. My vote goes for regular 'elephant ear' tuners as opposed to closed, 'butterfly' style ones, they just look wrong on Fender-types in my opinion. Yes, it's more work, but it would look so much better.
24. Thanks very much guys. I'll have a look at the tweaking the truss rods. I tried to get a set of Allen Keys today but had no luck. I'm going to try Maplin tomorrow. JLP, I think you may have misunderstood part of what I said. 3mm is the height of the E and A strings at the 17th fret when no notes are fretted, while Fender recommends that it be between 2 and 2.5mm. When doing the fret-at-the-first-fret-and-press-the-strings-at-the-end-of-the-neck trick, the height if the strings seems to be less than 1mm, leading me to believe that the neck is too straight.
25.
Has anyone tried to upgrade an MM2 to active with a decent pick up. I was just wondering if there is much work involved?
Take a swatch at this link to neepheid's OLP pimping thread. Between him and sibob, there's a lot of ideas, and they probably wont bite if you ask for help.
