1. Recently it's been Against Me! - New Wave, which I didn't like at first but it's grown on me now, and also Reuben - In Nothing We Trust, but This Is Where The Fight Begins by the Ghost of a Thousand landed on my doorstep this morning so I'll be listening to that later on.
2. Is this for the bridge I sold you? I didn't send you any screws with it because I'm pretty sure I don't have them but I'll have a look and if I find them I'll send them down to you. If I can't find them, look here: Axes 'r' Us. About a 1/5 of the way down. Give them an email and they'll be able to tell you which ones you need, they're really helpful and there's no postage either.
3. I'm looking for a good quality replacement bridge for a Fender Jazz that ISN'T a Badass or a Gotoh 201. It's a Mexican Jazz Bass, so the screws are 5 in a row. I've currently got a Badass II on it, but it's an ugly f***er, and I've had a Gotoh 201 on it too, but I didn't like it very much, I found it didn't sustain well. The Badass does the job very, very well, but I'd prefer something more traditional looking, the Badass doesn't fit in with the aesthetic IMO. Any suggestions?
4. The above mentioned pedal is currently sitting in my local Cash Converters, with a very reasonable price tag of £20. The thing is, they don't have the stuff so I can try it and I doubt they'll let me return it if I hate it. Has anyone got one, or tried one? Harmony Central has a lot of positive reviews, but they've mostly been written by people hoo rite lik dis, which is off-putting. Any coherent people tried it?
5. Use the Allen key for the saddles screws to lower the height of the saddles and therefore the strings. I think it's anti-clockwise to lower it, clockwise to raise it. Or, assuming, you've done that, you might want to put a shim in the neck, I did it with the Badass on my Jazz to get the action a bit lower. I used a small piece of thick card in the last quarter of the neck to raise the angle of the neck against the body. I think there's a thread about it in this section, if you use the search bar at the bottom of the page you should find it ok.
6. Daryll Jennifer from Bad Brains, and presumably Dr Know, guitarist of Bad Brains, because he taught Daryll Jennifer to play bass.
7. The plastic dots along the neck of my Jazz look a bit worn and scruffy and sh*t, so how would I go about removing them to replace them with something nice looking, maybe Mother of Pearl?
8. They're flat pole pieces, not staggered with raised A and D pole pieces. I'm not near my bass at the minute, but from what I remember, the pole pieces are flush with the pickup cover. They're pretty growly IMO, suitable for rock/blues/metal etc.
9. I bought a set of Wizard 84s from Dr. Dave, and they're great pickups, I thoroughly recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their J-type bass.
10. I've got an MIM P Bass bridge if you want it? It's a bog standard chrome affair, with a missing grub screw. What you should do is take the saddles off Dave's brass bridge and put them on the chrome one, it wont look out of place and brass is a much better metal for sustain than whatever Fender bridges are made of.
11. It's not a bass, but my Squier Strat is one of the nicest playing guitars I've ever used, and the neck is brilliant. It's 6 years old and fairly battle scarred, but thbuild quality is outstanding, especially since it cost £180. The pickups weren't up to much but it gets used for rock mostly so I used it as the base for a wiring project and now it has 2 humbuckers in it, and with the exception of an ill-fitting aftermarket scratchplate it's brilliant. There's a bit of a jump in quality between the Affinity series and the Standard's, but they're really well made instruments.
12. Nice! I love SBVs, they look brilliant IMO, but I'm sure thousands would disagree. I quite fancy a sunburst one myself.
13.
it's the first time i've played with this band live (it's in a kind of live techno/spacerock style) and it was lovely to have the crowd really getting into it and waving and smiling at you on stage...makes a change from the more restrained indie-style audiences i'm used to. i suppose that's what playing to people on party drugs does !! can't wait to do it again. for those interested: westone spectrum gt >> boss tuner >> xotic bb bass preamp >> boss syb5 >> modded boss cs3 >> mxr bass di >> desk
Never played a festival myself (although my band was meant to play at 3, and it all fell through) but last year I played in Germany and I can relate to what you're saying about audiences. Over there they love live music, especially rock and it was great to see people actually enjoying the gig and having a good time, as opposed to pretty much every gig we've played in Scotland where everyone just stands around looking bored. Germany was the only time where we've had people come up to speak to us after the gig and tell us it was great, over here that sort of reception is reserved for cool bands with fringes and skinny jeans.
14.
hi does anyone now if a badass 2 will fit on a fender mexican p bass
Yes, it will, it's a straight replacement, and a massive improvement on the standard Fender bridges.
15.
on the subject of food, why don't cadburys make 'Dairy Milk all fruit', they make all nut but not all fruit, lets face it the only reason fruit and nut is so good is because of the raisins in it (here they use sultanas, they are obviously raisin wannabes but they can't even get the colour right, shame on them).
All Fruit would be terrible, that's why. I like Whole Nut, and I thought I'd give Fruit and Nut a try, and it was terrible. It's not that I don't like raisins, or sultanas, but they don't mix with chocolate IMO.
16. That's a nice grain, I reckon natural might be the way forward, but white would be pretty sharp too, especially with the maple neck, it's a great combination.
17. Now on ebay. If anyone wants it I'll sort something out for BC members.
18.
Fender headstock is only 2mm wider... In fact, I would have said they were the same size, but your post made me go measure just to be sure rjb: They are big, heavy basses and produce a big, heavy sound. Check out the T-40 forum for other opinions or Harmony Central: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...eavey/T-40/10/1
I meant Fender-type in terms of shape, I'm not a fan of the angled back look. Actually, a 2-a-side Gibson-type would look even cooler IMO.
19.
I love Minor Threat, real hardcore.
Exactly, hardcore as it should be, none of that eyeliner and fringes BS.
20.
Can't remember his name, but the guy from Bouncing Souls is pretty good. Always like Rise Against's basslines too.
Brian Kienlen is his name, he's a great bass player and a really friendly dude, I've had the pleasure of interviewing the 'Souls.
Agreed Chris from Anti-Flag is an awesome bassist too. But i think we can all agree that Matt Freeman is the best bassist in Punk.
I know people who've played with Anti-Flag. They're a great band but they're massive c*nts apparently. And I'm going to disagree with Matt Freeman being the best bassist in punk. He's tremendously talented, but best bass player award goes to Daryll Jennifer of Bad Brains I reckon. Bit of self-censorship there, apparently the plural of the C-word slips through the swear net.
21. I only really notice the dull sound on my E string, and I wont go stright into swapping the valve just yet, but it was more of a general query. Could swapping the valve give me more gain, a clearer sound, different tone depending on what tube I replace the stock one with?
22. Are you in the States? I'd suggest an SX bass then. If you root around on here, a lot of folks have imported them from America and there's a lot of good stuff said about the build quality. A few folk use them for modifying as well, so later on when cash allows you could stick in a new pickup, or a better bridge. Apparently the ones that come in the starter packs aren't so good, but the rest are meant to be very good indeed. Go to the Gear Porn section and type SX into the search, you'll find loads of good reviews.
23. Am I right in thinking that the "wooly" sound commonly associated with Ashdowm ABM amps is caused by the type of valve used in the pre-amp? I've used a MAG 300 head which doesn't have a valve stage, and it definitely didn't have a wooly sound to it. If I am right, does that mean that replacing the valve would change the sound? I suffer from a lack of focus on my low E string, especially when I'm in Drop D. The thought occurred to me the other day when I saw an advert for Watford Valves in a magazine, which reminded me of ahpook's For Sale thread for his Aria Platinum Drive pedal, where he said he'd tried out a few different valves because he didn't like the sound of the stock one. Am I right in my thinking or have I missed the mark? I'm a novice when it comes to amp stuff really.
24. One of the best tracks by one of my favourite bands. Pretty good, well done!
25. NOFX haven't played in Scotland for years, the bastards. Great band though, Fat Mike's pretty underrated as a bass player I reckon.
