Actually probably lust, with this: My local has one, at £399. I resisted the urge to play, deciding that it would have a horrible jazzy tone and wouldn't be suited to fat rock sounds that I want, but based on looks alone God I want it.
Personally i ilke the black Nitro finish. That was a big selling point for me as i don't really like glossy black finishes.
I don't mind the finish really, it's just a very vague kind of white colour on the one in my local, and a little yellow-y too, it's little vomit-coloured. The black ones aren't bad though, provided you put a black scratchplate on it too

On Epi Non-reverse Thunderbird the copped out the same way they did with the Ripper and put P-J pickups on it which is stupid. Without Gibson-style pickups it kind of loses the factor that sets them apart from Fenders
Funnily enough bought one myself short while ago. Mines a cherry red version, with more of a scroll-like lawsuit headstock, black button tuners & adjustable dampener bridge. http://www.flickr.com/photos/9336149@N08/2...57602884385041/ Pickup certainly packs a punch @ 15k, especially considering it's age. Lovely bass, & IMO quite usable, though it depends on what kind of music you're playing
Heavy-ish rock really, doubt it'd be meaty enough for that. I like the sunburst but I've not really got enough spare cash to take a punt on it just now. Might save up for a bit and try for an Aria TB semi, although the horns aren't as circular as I like on a semi

The Embassy's a bit too Pete Docherty for me, and I don't want an Epi T-bird because it's the shape I have a problem with. Although, I forgot about the non-reverse Thunderbird. That is a thing of beauty! I think Epiphone did one, but it was a while ago, and they're pretty scarce, which is a shame. But a sunburst one would be lovely if I could find one. Possibly even a cherry red.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Jono Bolton replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I wouldn't ordinarily do this - but with FeeBay going the way it is, I doubt I'll be selling much more there: Buy my JapCrap Oh & should add in the unlikely event anyone's seriously interested, make me an offer, I'll gladly pull them off EPay & sell them proper, like. J.
Oh God, I want that Grabber copy so f***ing much it hurts Looks loads nicer than that Epi version they're doing -
3 USA fenders at soundcontrol for £699 each
Jono Bolton replied to kevbass's topic in General Discussion
Hmmm, I have a lump of cash coming soon which I was hoping to get a second hand EB-0 or EB-3 with but they appear to be as rare as rocking horse sh*te. Perhaps a nice new USA P-Bass for £499 will soften my GAS...
No! Get the Gibson, then send me pictures! I want one, and I'm sick of seeing Fenders! I'm hoping my next bass'll be an Epi EB3 that I can mod up -
Actually, you bring up a good point, my local music shop which is full of crapola has a new style highway 1, and it's got a HORRIBLE finish! Seriously bad, just in terms of aesthetics. To be fair, you could buy notable9's H1 and spend £35 buying a badass II from the states. Would cost you less than the new H1, but I like the 70s logo!
Actually, now I think about it: would a Gibson Victory be comparable? The GibsonBass site has sound samples from the three models, and other Gibson basses. edit: after a bit more comparative listening, how about a Ripper or a Grabber? (If you can find one, that is.)
Gibson Victory? I'm sorry, you must have misread the bit that said "...but doesn't look so hideous" Sorry but that's foul. Don't mind the Ripper but I don't like the Grabber. Les Paul looks alright, but they have a weird headstock.

Edited the original post. Apparently there was some confusion
It is - It's based very heavily on one of the '60s Ibanez original designs: This new Ibby came up recently here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=8594 Jon.
I must have it! But I'd get rid of the horrible 2+2 headstock, and stick a nice Fender-type on it. A rosewood one, with block inlays! Oh God, I'm getting ideas!
-
Goddammit! I'd want the white one, but it has a matching headstock and reminds me of the white P Duff McKagan plays I don't know if I like it without a scratchplate either. A Precision would be nicer.
-
Don't suppose anyone spied this semi on the 'bay? I like. I like a lot. I want to put thin strings on it. I don't know why.
-
I'd like a Squier VM but I can't decide which to get. I like the look of both the Precisions and both the Jazzes. Don't think it matters anyway because I always swap the bridges for BadAsses and pickups for Duncans. But they look awesome and I've not heard any bad reviews of them and you an get them for really reasonable prices. If only there were a 5 string version.
I'm not a fan of that bass, or of Epi's in general, but in fairness the Jack Cassady looks & feels a lot better when you've got one in your hands than you'd guess from the photographs.
It's just the fact that it's got a 335 horn on the top and a Les Paul horn on the bottom that I don't like. I just think it should be symmetrical. The sunburst one isn't too bad but you don't see many of them around.
-
...But doesn't look so hideous? I love the sound but hate the shape. The bass, not puppets, not cars, not winged creatures that control the elements Honestly, some of the people on here...
-
Also, thats a beautiful EB 2 but I find myself drawn to the Epi headstock over the Gibbo. Anyway, my girlfriend would never allow what she describes as a "big fat bass" in the house
-
There's an Epi Jack Cassady. I don't like it. Gold, and not symmetrical. Actually google image has thrown up a black and a sunburst finish too, but still, ewwww!
-
I saw that one too. It certainly looks the biz, but it's the original one. Fender re-did the Highway basses, and the new models have a Badass II bridge, Greasebucket master tone, a graphite re-enforced neck and a 70s-style logo. They look much cooler IMO and considering you can pick them up for about £500 it's pretty good value.

I had no idea Michael had left. Just checked their Myspace there and there's barely anything to indicate he'd ever been in the band, which is lame because I really enjoyed his drumming. It was all over the place and one of the things that drew me to the band, what was the reason for him leaving? I've gotta say, Cain looks better without the moustache
-
Fender Jazz bass - lined fretless - sunburst - MIM.
Jono Bolton replied to David Nimrod's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That is nice! God, why are there always nice basses when I'm skint -
What did Chris Cain play on With Love and Squalor? I've just been listening to it and the tone is awesome! I saw them a couple of years ago and I'm fairly sure he was using a Thunderbird, but part of me seems to think he used a Rick in the early days. Anyone help?
-
I just like the look. Not the antigua one, I've seen some effing awesome blue ones. I wouldn't ever spend that much on a bass, even if I had 2 G's to spare. I'm sure they are horrible, they were given away as an incentive to join the US army and go to 'Nam. It was that or a radio. True story. That red Hofner's really nice, except it's got sh*tty toy guitar tuners on it. Actually I'd rather have a sunburst Rivoli.

I've wanted one of these since I first saw one about 5/6 years ago. Probably not in that lovely mushroom-burst tho. Good old Music Outlet Shop have a pretty rough sunburst six stringer too, for a grand less.
