1. I think the price is a bit optimistic. Fair enough, the guy paid a lot for it and wants a decent return for it, but no one's gonna pay that much for something that they can get new for a similar price, or for a few hundred quid less if they're aren't bothered about buying new. It's £40 for shipping too, whereas loads of shops do free delivery, and you can post a bass yourself if you're selling privately for about £10-15. Also trying to flog you're gear on a forum with your first post isn't cool either.
2. I prefer more traditional looking basses (Js/Ps/SGs) but someone on here's selling a very nice Schecter Rick-a-like, it looks the biz. YUM!!
3.
acrylic's very dense, so I'd expect you'd get a lot of sustain and lows (Charlie Jones said that about his first see-thru bass) , but not much resonant snap. ps. a Status Stealth or a Steinberger cricket bat is entirely plastic too!
I like sustain and lows! Might have a little scout about for an acrylic body.
4. Who are the best parts retailers in the UK? I'm looking to get a new scratchplate for my MIM Jazz and there's similar ones on both Allparts and WD but the price difference is a tenner. Has anyone had experience with the two companies? I have a WD scratchplate on my Precision and it's pretty good. Who would I be better off buying from? The Allparts site doesn't say what models their plates fit, while WD has plates for all models. Or is there another company thats better than the two and I just haven't come across them yet?
5. Does acrylic work as well as wood in terms of sound? Is it just as resonant as wood? I would've thought an entirely plastic bass would sound kind of cheap, but I may be wrong.
6.
For retro styling I personally prefer the looks of Eastwood The EUB-1 and Classic 4 in particular look very tasty...
EUB-1 -1 Classic 4 +1! The walnut one looks fantastic! Anyone tried them? Its $500, so I'd take a guess at it being between £400 and £500 over here, but would it be worth it?
7. Mine is sage green, same as the ones that can be found here. I'm to lazy to photgraph my own. Really wish I'd got white now, but you don't see many of these about: Sage Green Fender Jazz's I'm emphatically NOT a fan of the one with the tortie scratchplate (I know it's a Precision, but bleurgh!). I'm actually missing the scratchplate, I took it off because I couldn't get the sticker residue off and never got round to replacing it. If anyone has a cheap white pearl one give me a shout!
8. I'm confused about APC's charges. I can't find anywhere where I can find a quote. Would I be better to phone the nearest depot to find out how much it'll cost? It's Peavey combo that weighs roughly 40kg.
9. I've been thinking about buying parts off of ebay such as a body/neck/pickups/hardware and assembling a fender type bass. Are there any problems associated with this? I've been told that the neck and body might not join up properly and throw off the intonation and alignment, is that true?
10. On the Interparcel website you have the option of using either interparcel or city link, are they part of the same company? and from what I've gathered, interparcel = good, city link = bad. Is interparcel a safe bet? I can get added insurance too i think.
11. I've got tendinitis in my left wrist, and a few months ago (in May I think) I had it in my right wrist, probably because I've spent the last 10 years playing bass according to my doctor. I'm currently wearing on of those supports you get, it's like a big tube of elasticated material, but what other ailments have folk had as a result of bass/guitar playing? Just so I know what I can expect
12. Some people have more money than sense
13. That doesn't seem bad at all. £60 off the rrp, free delivery, stand and strings (although at £8 a set they'll not be fantastic), and Squier stuff's pretty decent, I have a Squier tele and strat and they're both excellent, the neck on my strat's better than some Fenders I've tried. I'd probably replace the pickups on it though, the pickups on my strat were quite weak, but the tele isn't bad at all. You get a choice of colours too, sunburst looks good with the tortoise shell scratchplate.
14. I wouldn't have said it was a Burns, but possibly a Burns-styled copy. Flight of the Conchords are from New Zealand, could it possibly be by a company from NZ? EDIT: Also, that neck looks feckin' huge!
15. I know I posted pretty much the same thing in the General Bass Discussion bit, but what service do people on here use to post amps? I need to post my Peavey amp but I don't want to have to charge the buyer loads for it. I was told about Interparcel, who are charging about £30 for end of next day delivery. Has anyone else had experience with posting such huge amps?
16.
340 quid to post to oz....plus the price of the amp...dont they have music shops down under
That's what I thought. There's no way he thought it could be cheaper to have it shipped from here than to buy one over there. Anyway, it sold with Buy It Now, to someone in Derbyshire. I think I'll be using Interparcel, it's gonna be £24.99 + VAT to ship it for next day delivery as opposed to £38 for Parcelforce 48
17. I'm selling my Peavey bass combo, and I need to post it. Which services are the best for posting big parcels like this? I only really know of Parcelforce, and previous experience hasn't been great. Also, a guy from Oz wants to know how much it's going to be to post it, what would be a good service to send it overseas? Parcelforce Worldwide is putting it at about £340, does that sound about right.
18. An ABM EVO II C210T. And then a 4X10 cab too at some point. Thanks for the perfect excuse to bump too!
19. Peavey TNT 115 combo. Selling it because I'm hopefully buying a new Ashdown combo after Christmas. Great condition, a couple of scuffs on the top (you can see them in one of the photos), very small (the scuffs, not the amp). Good meaty bass sound, 7 band graphic EQ and bass and treble knobs for extra depth. £150 ono plus postage. It's on eBay too. Some pictures: Email me with any questions!
20.
I don't really find delays like that acceptable to be honest. And yes, I know I'm anal about this kind of thing but if I'm selling something it will be packed and ready to go before it's sold and will be sent the same day or next working day once it is sold.
+1. This is why I f***ing hate eBay. Especially people registered as sellers. They know they're selling things, and so they know people'll be buying their stuff. I bought a bag last week to help with carting stuff home for Christmas and it's still not been posted yet, with no response from the seller after 3 messages (mainly about my anger at them not letting me know whats going on). And I paid for 1st class recorded delivery to make sure it was here on time, so that a waste of a fiver. It's totally rude, and shows that they don't give 2 shits about their customers. Looking at their feedback, about 30 odd are neutral or negative. There should be a limit as to how much bad feedback someone gets before their account gets canceled. It takes 2 minutes to check if stuffs been sold, and sellers should make an effort to get to the post office if they know they have someone else's money. Sorry, rant over
21. The first one I ever played was a Jim Deacon P-Bass copy that my primary school bought. I was the only one who kept playing longer than a week. I spent pretty much every chance I got practicing on it til I finished primary. First I ever owned was a second (or third) hand Peavey Foundation, similar to a precision, with 2 soap bar pickups. And a nice maple neck if I remember rightly. I had that for about 3 years before selling it on. My first guitar was a pink Danelectro U2. I wish I still had that.
22. Me brushing my teeth: Me playing a gig in Mordor: Me playing in Bannerman's in Edinburgh, post haircut: I've still to get a new scratchplate for my Jazz
23. Mine is playing in Germany in May. The second night, in what was once an old milk factory. It'd been converted so there was a venue, with flats surrounding it. Great fun, we played well, met some awesome people, got as much free beer as we could drink, did 2 encores and just generally had a blast. Cos the people that stayed in the flats helped run the gig, they all stayed afterwards so we had about 50 people in the "backstage area" til 4 in the morning. Good times!
24. Rock Around the Clock for me. That was back in primary school. I got taught the Beverly Hills Cop theme tune and an Ace of Bass song after that.
