Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
taunton-hobbit replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
The problem is 'time' - there's not a lot involved in producing a credit-card (& pin) type 'proof or exemption' card and a phone app would (in theory) be even simpler - the other problem is acceptance (for some) - some very well spoken female from the BAME community was on tv last night, already starting the 'discrimination' stuff - watch this space ! π -
James Brown 'warm up' music at the Barbican I had the distinct impression that the sound system was being pushed past twelve by some spotty, funk music hating, child. π

The number of huge companies that make cheap headlines for the tabloids is very small. The vast number of other large businesses have tax situations that are very straightforward and their taxes and vat are paid directly to HMRC. The only advantage of small business taxation is to the accountancy industry - you could probably increase VAT threshold to 200k+ without a significant dent, it costs HMRC more than it earns to chase small traders. π -

At the risk of sounding paranoid ( Moi? ), the pandemic has handed the authorities world-wide the moment they've all been waiting for - the chance to cut out a vast number of small traders and have most trade go through large companies whose accountancy is ( ahem ) probably more accurate. The deliberate tactic of attempting to decimate cash money in circulation is a case in point ( I don't suppose drug dealers accept cards? ), in an attempt to put the brakes on the black economy. Governments simply don't want small traders, hence the encouraging of the out-of-town shopping centres populated by large retail ( now coming to an internet site near you ) which will open up an interesting debate as to the future purpose of these leviathans. Interesting times ...... π -

They, like everyone else, have taken a financial hit - unlike everyone else they can extract more money in an attempt to cover their costs. As a non-performer, I can see both sides of this one .............. π -

It worries me that some folk are actually making light of the fact that they have gained substantial bodyweight over the last twelve months - surely this is asking for future problems ? (diabetes / cholesterol / heart attack / etc etc ) . Being bored ain't a good reason to live on pizza and crisps .............. π -

Soz, badly put - I wasn't implying 'against' the virus, merely that we have gathered a lot of scientists all declaring that everything the 'other' mob says/ does is wrong / misguided / ineffective / dangerous / I realise this stuff goes on all the time in the scientific community, but the common good is not best served by having the debates on the front pages on a daily basis (imo / ymmv) π -

(IMO) The key factor in ANY campaign is to keep the public ( i.e. us ) on side - I'm not sure that any good is actually achieved by all these public slanging matches. π
