Being more-or-less retired, I look at my kit from time to time......... I have some frighteningly good Matamp (valve) 300 watters, which are mint, never having been out. If I were to consider gigging, I think I'd use my Crown 2000, which is immaculate, but not irreplaceable if 'something' happened.........does anyone else have kit which is 'too nice to use'? Or am I just being 'old'?

Interesting thread - we used to run a couple of Garrard SP25s, fitted with Sure jukebox carts & additional headweights (usually a 2p piece)........400watts of Ormat Amps & some 18" speakers with Vitavox S3 horns......kept a lot of people happy for a long time (!) 😎

Back in the day I had a few 'odd' gigs in areas best described as 'between Abingdon and Drayton' I came to the conclusion that it was a sort of musical Bermuda Triangle.......... 😎

Now you know why I failed maths - 2yrs is a 'near miss' for me! 😊

I saw an item (BBC news) the other day that stated that the majority of vynil is sold to hard-core fans, the implication being that the current 'boom' is not going to last (?)........ I've cut my cd's down to around 500, still buy the odd one........I've got a proper dj deck set up, so I hadn't noticed the retail demise of the cd player - besides I use a pc, which will always play the medium (along with YouTube). Being old & crumbly I distrust the cloud stuff - I hate being dependant on third parties.

So back in the late 70s I had bills to pay, and started doing function stuff. (hated it, but needs must). I get a lead to a large pile in Oxford that wanted someone to handle all their function disco work..........sorted (?) I am informed that the first gig is a birthday bash for some Scottish country music mob - I inform the venue that we don't carry that sh*t (sorry, music) but will be happy to play what the organisers bring. Come the night, the hotel hasn't said a word, & I'm faced with a barrage of insults......... ........end of those gigs then..............

One good thing about being in a Free cover band- you only got one number to learn? (Puts on coat, tin hat & exits, stage left)

I've just managed to turn down a plea from a local lady who was really keen that I come out of retirement (not happening) and play 'some reggae' for her wedding......... I suspect that she means dubstep/Marley/Althea & Donna (at a push) - not Lee Perry/I Roy/Bunny Wailer........... (sigh.......)
