A long time ago, I used to site Juke Boxes for a major operator. I was sent to a well-known Council Estate to chat to a (very) Irish Landlord. He wanted two separate jukes, one in each bar - with different records. It took a while to work out that one side catered for Catholics, and the other for Protestants. ...Wouldn't happen now?....I'm not convinced.

In a multicultural society where the 'practicing' Christian population is somewhat outnumbered, the term 'Winterval' may not be totally off the mark. Without wishing to dive into religion (or politics), I can't be the only one who found the annual (and somewhat short) speech from Maj to be a bit patronising & over-pro CofE? Whatever, my best wishes for 2017 to everyone on Basschat.

Vinyl outsells digital downloads
taunton-hobbit replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Back in the Day, we had huge plant like EMI Hayes pressing the latest Beatles single 24/7 That sort of capacity is just not needed now - smaller plant=longer lead time It's just the nature of the beast. Vinyl is uber-trendy at the moment, I'm watching this with interest (and a smile). -
Something silly ? Duff speaker jack socket ?

Gain, power and volume - a confusing ménage à trois...

Digital Signal Processing ? ( but I suspect that's not the answer were looking for..................) -
Gain, power and volume - a confusing ménage à trois...

..........valve watts have more 'heft' ? ,,,,,,,,,,,, oops -
I could spend the rest of the morning trying to explain - it's a whole different thing, just as trying to logically define 'heft'. For this reason (among others) I stopped running a 'disco' a long time back and called it a Sound System instead: people seemed to get what I meant..........
-
I hated gigging with stuff on poles - the sound was simply wrong........ I had some trouble in convincing Alex that I REALLY wanted two Dubsters (it's a different ethos) to get that 'grunt' out of a 'disco' system. (hate that word, it sends out all the wrong messages)

Apart from a 'ta-da' mail and pic (which I stupidly deleted), Alex has gone very quiet. The original offer (ten only) was almost too good to turn down - had I still been actively working I'd have gone for that without a moments hesitation. I don't think anyone who bought blind at that price will regret it..............

Joining a professional band help please!
taunton-hobbit replied to Ruck's topic in General Discussion
'Professional' is often used to mean that they play for money (sometimes?) It's not the same as earning enough to live on......... I wish you luck, I hope this works for you. -
What are you listening to right now?
taunton-hobbit replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
Old Eddy Grant compilation - creaks a bit 'round the edges (but then so do I ) - still very competent stuff. -
Back in the day I worked for a company that built & covered cabs - we used Copydex - it's very forgiving.........
-
I used 18s for over fifteen years - interesting that Alex has gone this route - I can't find anything on the site about crossovers, but I daresay something will materialise - anyone care to mail Mr Claber ?

I started a thread on General Discussion yesterday on this - just a 'heads up'

With the advent of the B/F pa range - " If Alex were to make a combo, he'd either have to find an amp manufacturer that would be happy to assist or go in to the amp making business himself. " Alex already has an amp, now all it needs is a preamp (not difficult or heavy) - Watch this space ?

At last B/F have revealed one of the worst-kept secrets of the year. !500 quid buys you an inbuilt amp and a 50lb lift - but Alex has thought about the handles............. Faital Pro 18HP1060 2400W Driver This Faitial Pro subwoofer is a beast. That's putting it lightly. The FEA designed aluminium basket and neo magnet cut its weight to less than a third of a comparable ferrite driver, whilst reducing distortions and improving transient response. The huge voice coil and motor venting minimises thermal compression for improved output and sonic accuracy and makes it almost impossible to blow. The cone and the suspension is built to withstand touring use, allowing very high linear excursion, protecting the driver from abusive over-excursion and being highly water (and beer!) resistant. Hypex PSC2.700 1400w Amp The Hypex amp can deliver in excess of 1400W into a dynamic load from its extremely low distortion class D amplifier, with an ultra efficient SMPS supporting continuous power levels of 1200W, far more than many so-called 2000W+ subs can manage. The 24 bit audiophile DSP allows us to optimisethe system so the enclosure, driver and amp work to their maximum potential, with four presets to suit your needs. The first ten are (were ?) 999.00...........
