1. Apart from a 'ta-da' mail and pic (which I stupidly deleted), Alex has gone very quiet. The original offer (ten only) was almost too good to turn down - had I still been actively working I'd have gone for that without a moments hesitation. I don't think anyone who bought blind at that price will regret it..............
2. 'Professional' is often used to mean that they play for money (sometimes?) It's not the same as earning enough to live on......... I wish you luck, I hope this works for you.
3. Old Eddy Grant compilation - creaks a bit 'round the edges (but then so do I ) - still very competent stuff.
4. Back in the day I worked for a company that built & covered cabs - we used Copydex - it's very forgiving.........
5. I used 18s for over fifteen years - interesting that Alex has gone this route - I can't find anything on the site about crossovers, but I daresay something will materialise - anyone care to mail Mr Claber ?
6. I started a thread on General Discussion yesterday on this - just a 'heads up'
7. With the advent of the B/F pa range - " If Alex were to make a combo, he'd either have to find an amp manufacturer that would be happy to assist or go in to the amp making business himself. " Alex already has an amp, now all it needs is a preamp (not difficult or heavy) - Watch this space ?
8. Just have all Excrement Bay stuff diverted to spam - then block........
9. ........ ^ ^ Very wise - 'last nights' have a certain reputation that seems to attract yob idjits - good luck,,,,,,,,,
10. Mm - I'd got there, it's an interesting departure, all this PA stuff....face it, the average band isn't just a load of peeps playing bass.
11. At last B/F have revealed one of the worst-kept secrets of the year. !500 quid buys you an inbuilt amp and a 50lb lift - but Alex has thought about the handles............. Faital Pro 18HP1060 2400W Driver This Faitial Pro subwoofer is a beast. That's putting it lightly. The FEA designed aluminium basket and neo magnet cut its weight to less than a third of a comparable ferrite driver, whilst reducing distortions and improving transient response. The huge voice coil and motor venting minimises thermal compression for improved output and sonic accuracy and makes it almost impossible to blow. The cone and the suspension is built to withstand touring use, allowing very high linear excursion, protecting the driver from abusive over-excursion and being highly water (and beer!) resistant. Hypex PSC2.700 1400w Amp The Hypex amp can deliver in excess of 1400W into a dynamic load from its extremely low distortion class D amplifier, with an ultra efficient SMPS supporting continuous power levels of 1200W, far more than many so-called 2000W+ subs can manage. The 24 bit audiophile DSP allows us to optimisethe system so the enclosure, driver and amp work to their maximum potential, with four presets to suit your needs. The first ten are (were ?) 999.00...........
12. Nope - you need vast quantities of those glowy things for that........... (please see my avatar) You WILL get a hernia with that tranny, guaranteed.....not to be lifted one-handed. VVVVVVV
13. Motown was great music, performed by great musical talent. Back in the day. Arguments about 'who did what' are just ripples in the pond.
14. I'd look at Barefaced.........& a Crown 'D' amp (but then I'm biased)
15. Worth a 'pinned' post? ....oops......
16. If it does what you want - leave it alone.
17. ^^^ As far as a 'proper' business is concerned, this would probably contravene the Data Protection Act. There is, of course, nothing to prevent them contacting the purchaser for you.
18. ^^^^ 'Interesting' - my feelings about a return would be something on the lines of 'fvck that for a game of soldiers'...... .....but each to their own.
19. ^^^ I know a leisure lighting/sound firm (no names, no pack drill) that started in about 1986 in a Council Yard startup office space (I think the dustcarts were still using one bit) - they now run three or four huge industrial units with a stock inventory that must make Hinkley look cheap - all done by being 'nice' to their customers - it can happen, but I think it's harder now.............
20. Sly & Family Stone - Everyday People Remix - awesome
21. I think you can scale this up as well - the number of expensive cr*p enclosures (& amps) that I've suffered over the years is simply unreal. I'll spare the manfacturers blushes (some are deservedly out of business) - currently I run a split sound between Barefaced & Mackie and the results are pretty-well what I spent 40odd years looking for.............
