  2. Drifting away from my reggae, I've got Credence Clearwater on the 'small' Ormat system in the room next door - just the stuff for an early summer evening in the West Country !
  3. If you are anywhere in South/East Devon, Steve Rowse is now set up & running in Axminster. He's been mentioned before on here, but I thought a reminder would do no harm - just done a smashing job on checking/modding my Ormat pile, would totally recommend (and he's a bloody nice bloke). Website - Steves Amps - take a look...........
  4. Not quite the same I know, but I'm currently playing around with a couple of Mathias 300watt valves (KT120) into two BF Dubsters, withe the input from my deck mixer split by an active crossover, the high mid/top going to another 300 Matamp into a couple of Mackie C200 - it's very good.
  5. Aah - I think you may find that breakers are capable of handling momentary power surge (hence my query)..........
  6. I've got a Crown XLS2000 - two channels in mono mode with an internal electronic crossover - bass from left, mid/top from right - it's classD, so stupidly light...good bit of kit. You would need to preamp for your tones, of course.
  7. I have Ormats - they terrify me and demolish small buildings at twelve feet. I also have a Crown 2k which is very loud,,,and house-trained. .
  8. JPJ - that worries me - what mains fuse is in the amp - is it a slo-blow? (I would have expected the amp fuse to easily pop first)
  9. Decimalisation was an excuse for an orgy of rounding up & price increases........ just sayin......
  10. Most (all?) of my amps/kit seemed to have 3a internal fuses - I've always used 5 as a catch-all (works for me)
  11. It's the 'often' that's got me worried...........
  12. I, being mega-technical, tend to make sure that any gig leads have a 5amp fuse - its worked for fifty years, so I'm not stopping now.
  13. Advice on the Skye gig - cost it properly & in full and request payment (in full) in advance.....failing to actually cost gigs in real-world money is why a lot of bands (and businesses) fail.
  14. Take one big (you know the make) valve amplifier....run 50 meters 1.5mm mains lead (twin) a couple of tents down and off you go (I cheated, used a single amp for me and slaved another for the remote) - job done. Edit: spelling.
  15. Nope - these were large OrangeMatamps - amazing kit, but basic - I was so not up for taking the chance. Venues take the p*ss - they don't have to stump up for the kit, nor haul it around. One reason I stopped working was that I got tired of being treated like some kind of serf (nearly used the 'other' analogy of banana boats there)............
  16. Had an interesting conversation when these things were a new invention. Venue - 'by the way, we have a device that cuts the stage power if it all gets too loud' Me - 'That's fine, I use valve powered kit which thumps when it turns back on - if one of my Tannoy Gold Speakers blows, it'll cost you around 500 quid and I use six on this rig' They found me alternative power...........
  17. I'm looking for forward/reverse search (it's a cd deck btw). on the top right of the front panel it's got: I<< - >>I TRACK But I'm now totally lost...... Someone, somewhere please help (& yes I've looked in the bloody book ! )
  18. Every 'proper' venue that caters for weddings/functions that I've ever been near, is usually stuffed so far up it's own rear end it's frightening.
  19. Looks like a cheap 10" 100watt driver (Google) - I'd almost forgotten Roger Squires Disco Centre stuff - it's probably quite a rarity now.
  20. ....^^^ please see my earlier post #23 ?
  21. ^^^ Yup, this is back to what I said about this stuff needing professional input. Had a pub once where the music levels were set inside the main music bar, not outside where the neighbours were - madness - but this is what happens when the local authority thinks they know what they are doing..........
  22. I did a gig for a Scots family - father was a teetotal accountant, it was daughters 21st (at home - big place) - zero booze, zero atmosphere no-one danced & daughter kept coming up demanding we played 'something boppy' - this went on all bloody night..... in the end I asked said female (who I'm sure was on vodka) to suggest a couple of tunes - blank look - 'well something boppy, you know' Eventually everyone sulked off, we got paid & left............
  23. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Midget-Moth-Fly-Bite-Stopping-Black-Portable-UV-Domestic-Insect-Pest-Killer-/230866811893?hash=item35c0bbfbf5:m:mAx4aGDLsXfIswgFYRjQDzQ ....try this?.....
  24. Flyposting used to be an offence under the 1968 Control of Advertisements Act (which came under Town & Country Planning)- whether or not it still is, I'm not sure but the potential fines were (are?) spine-chilling. I used to pay a 'company' to do my London billing - never had a complaint, used to do my own 'local' stuff on Sunday mornings using wallpaper paste & a bucket.....
