1. I've been (not quite) watching this years offering - I liked Madness, but then, they are of 'my time' - turned off a lot of prog-rock noise and a fair number of females who seemed to think that 'talent' consists of stamping around the stage with spread legs (yawn) - Tina Turner did this stuff fifty years ago....anyone fancy coming in (maybe I'm just too old)?
2. Off we go again (!) - I've a couple of Dubsters (gen1, 2x15) - for their size and weight they do what I require fairly well. They do not have the same 'heft' as a couple of 18s in heavy thick ply cabs, but I didn't expect them to. I'd do the try-out offer & see what you think - also, you might like to email Alex & get a conversation going - he's intelligent, easy to talk to and has the knack of getting to the nub of this stuff........
3. Let us know how this goes, please.........
4. I wonder how many varieties of ormat there are? (scratches head and exits left, murmuring the opening bars of 'One Step Beyond')
5. Great for metal - the handles are good too......the stack (at present) comprises a couple of built to order series 3000 (circa 280 watts each) & one Matamp slave 300 (again 280+ - these are all using KT120s for output).....one OR100 circa 1970, and one Orange Custom shop 30/50 plus a bit of electronic trickery/crossover in a matching cab that Jeff kindly built while I watched (impressive). The 'green' slave was bought from Oli Foxen, I promised I'd leave the crosses on the front, it seems they are part of its history.... Now you may understand why I run two Dubsters!
6. Try FleaBay - there's a couple or three new ones on there with UK availability.
7. I've got several different makes (or badges....) I've yet to find any real difference between them, but I only use for general housing & car/van transport. I wouldn't trust my amps to a plastic box if I was looking for them to Go International - I'd want 'proper' plywood & metal kit...........
8. Try carpet underlay felt (not the synthetic 'Tredaire' type) - works a treat and can be fixed with drawing pins (!).
9. DPD were total sh1t until my major supplier (who is VERY major) decided to use them - suddenly we get stuff around midday with smiling 'happy' drivers - as opposed to the taciturn two days late rubbish that we suffered before......money talks & carriers don't give stuff about ordinary mortals.
10. On the (very) rare occasion that I have amps in my car overnight, the load cover is over them and I reverse back (gently) into a stone wall. I'm still relieved to find it all intact the next day..............
11. I had the same thing back in the day - I wrote & offered to sell them the name (which I had coined for radio use) - never heard from/of them again......
12.
13. I did a few gigs at the Nags Head - it's a hotel now, I believe - Red Lion Wooburn Green has gone - Wycombe Trades & Labour was eminently forgettable (is it still there?).........never did the White Horse (not sure I missed much).........
14. Pretty well all of the pubs that I played back in the day seem to have been demolished or burnt down (must prove something. but I'm not sure what).
15. Someone nicked my HobNobs - Barefaced cheek of people............
16. I've got a new packet of chocolate Hob Nobs.............
17. Cor - there's teknikal....I'll stick with my KT120s & let everyone else fight............
18. I'm delighted to see Alex 'getting there' - his attention to detail & customer service is first rate, as, in my opinion, is the product. (I've just run up my Dubsters on a couple of Ormat 3000s, and I might get my hearing back to normal by Wednesday). Well done mate, it's not easy to start a business from scratch (I know, I've done it a couple of times).
19. Noise meter tip - plug your extension lead into the cooker wall socket - they all have a13amp outlet - and they feed off a high amperage direct line.
20. I will kick this off by saying that I can't stand Chris Evans, but I'm trying to stay detached here. Am I the only one who thought it was more-or-less the same programme, with just a change of presenter? ....might as well got Kylie Minogue as far as I'm concerned - at least she's easy on the eye (& don't seem to shout much)... I await to be told that I've missed a nuance or five - your opinions please? Mods - Pls move this to the off topic thread already running?
21. I knew someone would get Heft in before me.....I wonder why valve amps sound louder? I've got a few, and they easily trounce my Crown Class D - p'raps someone can come up with a credible answer?
22. I use Eminence for bass (thanks Alex), can't see much, if any advantage with these, but I suppose price might be a factor?
23. I used to get Chris Squire, his bass rig, a drumkit and various other bits in a mini van (Chris rode in the back and winged a lot).
24. You have a balanced output xlr on the rear of your 550 - this should be ok as a send to the 250- try it and see - you won't blow anything up...........
