  1. My vast and unending (blah blah) experience of different makes of valves runs something on the the lines of 'if it glows and it works, wots the prob geez?'
  2. I know I'm old, but I needed a bloody magnifying glass to work out the I was totally unsuitable..............

  4. Taggs Island, on the Thames - there's a photo on Google, but I can't bring it over I worked with Fleetwood Mac on that stage, as well as others...shame it burned down.
  5. I've got a 2k Crown (not exactly huge or heavy) and a clutch or Ormat valve thingys..........apart from the weight, the sound from the valve kit just has so much.......heft...........
  6. Mmm .... I'd look at Barefaced as well, at least their kit is rated in UK power levels (rule of thumb with Yank stuff is to divide it by four). Otherwise, it depends on your venues, for pub/cafe work I can see no real issues, but I'd need convincing about bigger gigs......
  7. Fleabay sells RGB floods (with remote control) for around 12.00....lots of light, and static or change settings - I use them for shop window display, would certainly consider them if I needed cheap colour wash for gigs........
  8. I gigged an old Transit for years - it had large cheap padlocks fitted to hasps welded on to the body/doors (cork on the back of the lock to avoid damaging the van rust patina)....and a resident German Shepherd dog....never had a problem.........
  9. Check out the venue pa before you even think about the booking. If it all looks good, I'd go for dummy stacks & in-ear - -you know it makes sense.......
  10. I consider that the ability to reinvent the group as the years went by was their strongest asset, and the one that Liverpool manages to capture quite well (he said, clunkingly trying to get back on topic).
  11. I refuse to add up the amount of money I've spent/lost on gear over the last fifty years. My rule of thumb is to walk if I can't afford it & to enjoy it if I can.
  12. ,,,,,,,,,I'm not feeling the love here...........
  13. I went to Wrigleys in Plymouth and staggered out with about half a ton of freebie chewing gum..........
  14. ^^^^^ I'm not seeing the internal shots - lots of nice pics, but zero with the lid off?
  15. Mike Barrat (Shakin' Stevens) used to gig at mine in North London for forty-five quid (that was the whole band, driving down from Wales) Good show, not a big pull back in the day....how times change......... vvvvv sorry, should've made that clear - the band was The Sunsets.
  16. There's always the Americans (& the Japanese)....loads of mileage (and money) there.......
  17. It's the 'wisdom of hindsight' thing, they changed music dramatically, but something really needed to, and each generation takes stuff and makes it their own. I'm just glad that I lived through those times (and everything that went with them) and can now afford the luxury of looking back wearing (slightly) rose-tinted glasses sometimes.
  18. I like the Noble (I could use one of those....) shame there's no internal shots, I'd really like to see what I might be buying......? vvvvv are the mirrors included in the price?
  19. Me, being a technical dinosaur (I still own valve amps, for goodness sake), sometimes wonders it this fixation with all things modern can obscure the original exercise, which was merely to drain the swamp - sorry, play music - not shoot alligators, if you get my drift?
  20. Umm fourpenneth for what it's worth. If there's a prob with the amp, you need a guy who understands amplifiers, not an electronic techy, which is not the same beast (at all). Good luck.
  21. It's showing a 503 error - try phoning them?
  22. I did some gigs with Freddie Mac and the Boss Sound.....his band used the gap between numbers to play the riff from 'sock it to 'em JB' - Freddie used the riff to intro the next song - this was non-stop for an hour - simply the best band I ever worked with (and I've worked with a few).
  23. I used to do a lot of sound (dj)...always put a rough pile of stuff together before the show, which could be juggled, depending on the audience. Personally, I think that anyone who just 'throws' stuff at punters deserves all they get - including no rebooks...............
  24. I saw the thread title and thought 'oh dear, another one gone'.............
