  1. The only studio I ever had experience with was Jacksons @ Rickmansworth - So I'm out of date (slightly, they pulled it down about 15years ago). If your friend had a 23 year lease, I wonder if he can't go to a rent tribunal over this proposed increase? - not quite sure of how this works in the commercial sector, but I would be amazed if the new landlord can just up the rent on this scale?
  2. I always insist on cleared funds in my bank, on direct transfer. It works.
  3. Consider a used Marshall JMP1? Very versatile and you can set up your own presets around 300 quid on fleabay.
  4. I started cruise reading this (it's raining & I'm bored), and got to thinking Fane?...why not use Eminence? ....then zapped to the last post (above)....nuff said really.........
  5. here goes: Long gone and much missed.......(pa was an ormat as well, btw) ....my back has never been the same since.
  6. From years of experience with pubs....some good, most not.....idiot landlords usually land up in the street proclaiming 'I've got the Brewery right where I want them' - usually about a month before they get evicted - it's just a matter of time.
  7. The Gaming Commission has zero sense of humour - I know, I used to deal with them in a previous life. Just sayin'...........
  8. If 5 watts (that's real watts) is going to do it...Jeff had a few of these at 359.00 ....got to be worth a thought............
  9. Far be it from me....but I'd leave the drivers in to act as an 'anti-warp' brace while the thing dries out?
  10. The old adage - 'dry it and try it' comes into play here - I've had 15" G18c speakers with S3 Vitavox horns chucked in a brook ( some audiences are very hard work), and they were fine. I'd leave absolutely alone in a warm(ish) dry space and wait a week or two, then assess the true situation.
  11. Back in the day, all my gear (including a couple of Ormats) lived in the back of an aluminium box truck with a fibreglass roof. The 'delicate' stuff had a heavy cloth (old cinema curtain) slung over it. I hate to say this, but I never had a moments problem.....I'd suggest that the OP goes to Jewsons and buys a large, cheap tarpaulin.....
  12. Cash Converters used to be the first place plod looked for nicked gear - I presume they've cleaned their act up since.
  13. I'm reminded of when I phoned around for builders to do some paving, and a couple turned up without tapes or notebooks...........
  14. Yup That's how it's worked with every stereo jack that I've been involved with.
  15. Another one gone.....it's been a rough few weeks.....rest in peace darling.
  16. I'm in South Devon......we lost Broadband totally on Christmas Eve for about four hours - called BT helpline & the nice gentlemen explained in a perfect Indian/English voice that 'they' had major problems down here...seems to be ok now, but I'm leaving the business card acceptor on 'dial-up' for the time being....bb has been odd for a few weeks now (slow, not connecting, not there..). So it's not just Cornwall.......
  17. Thanks ped - I wondered if it was linked to the BBC problem (which is still not fully sorted) - someone 'out there' means business..........
  18. The harsh reality is that as we grow older, so do our peers and our heroes, it's the 'letting go' that is so hard sometimes - I used Free Nelson Mandela as a juke box/sound system test track for years..........
  19. Strange, If I'd been Warwick & seen this on a bass thread, my response would have been jet-propelled....nice to be so big that you can simply shrug and ignore this type of publicity............
  20. I do get the feeling (post 94) that Dad may be suggesting that this thread might be wearing out it's welcome?
  21. Stax every time - it had far more oomph - Motown was the Beatles, Stax was the Stones, as far as I was concerned (and I grew up in that era).
  22. Just to refocus - Chris Squire, who I knew personally, came from a fairly ordinary family & lived in a semi as a child, dad drove a London cab & mum kept house (& made a nifty line in kipper ties for a while). Jon Anderson grew up in Accrington and started his working life in a series of menial jobs..........
  23. Without wishing to diss anyone, but Phil Collins was born in Hounslow, an area not renowned for 'pit' activity............. Also did drama school ....ditto........
  24. I recall the 'birth' of Punk, and some band (I forget who) was presented on tv as a bunch of kids who had just got together..... ....complete with a full/new Marshall backline? Someone was trying it on.... The working class thing is largely a myth to hype the band to the 'majority' - It never did TwoTone bands any harm...........
