1. People with relatives pulling the strings make for an unworkable band/office/business/factory/life choice (insert appropriate word). Tell God how you feel - if he gets crapped about it, then leave - there are other bands out there............
2. So I click on the link and get a load of cr*p that gets past my adblock - very clever - not.
3. Horses for courses i guess - Jeff Lewis runs Matamp out a shambolic old and cold mill up t'north. His executive transport is a old white van - he's not making a million quid a minute, but he loves his work & does his best to keep customers happy. I don't think there's many firms that you can call on Boxing Day morning & talk to the Guvnor (I did) - he gets my vote every time........... Oh yes - the kits bloody impressive too............
4. The UK guys might decide to do a goodwill thing, but they didn't sell the kit, so there's no obligation here. Good luck.........
5. Depends on whether it's paying the mortgage really......if you can live without it and afford to bugger off and just play music, it's a no-brainer........
6. .........Most shops will do a deal......... In the end they do one deal too many and that's another empty window. I'm not in music retail - but I have idiots trying to get discount on ten pound items on a frequent basis - it's just a pain in the rear......
7. A few years back, I had some 15" Tannoy Golds in 2'x2' x 1' Chipboard boxes - the backs simply screwed on, and I landed up fitting them with carpet felt, and a ruddy great 4x2 brace across the middle, the back being screwed to it in three places - used them for about ten years with no issues (apart from the pathetically low wattage handling)....sounded nice, though...... vvvv I bought six at 45 quid each, they'd come from the Blind Beggar pub (Google Kray Brothers) in 1977(ish) - I used them fairly solidly until the mid 80's and sold them, out of the cabinets to a bloke that was exporting UK kit to Japan. I think he paid me a thousand quid for all of them (with crossovers), so I was a happy bunny.....they seem to be about 1k each now, but it's been thirty years......I also sold him a Quad preamp & two amps along with a Thorens deck - I think he gave me 1500 in total (sigh).....
8. The worst pa that I ever had the pleasure of suffering was at the Hammersmith Palais, another long-gone Mecca hole - they pulled it down and put in a Tesco....for once, it was probably an improvement.....and no, I never did get paid...........
9. I once had an Australian in the UK buy a Volvo from me using travellers cheques - strangely, it all worked out fine............
10. So I've got a couple of Barefaced Dubsters and Matamps to go with them - foolishly decided to play some Dub reggae earlier today (you know, King Tubby et al), In a large hall or the local park it might have been a good idea, but this was in the lounge.....my ears might recover in a day (or three).........
11. If this is new - contact the seller - it's their job to supply gear that works properly, it's not up to you, as the customer to do stuff to make it work - indeed, it could invalidate any warranty...you are covered by the Sale of Goods Act.....don't be shy, it's your money, at the end of the day..........
12. Pressure Drop - Toots & Maytals - gotta be LOUD though (!)
13. I used to run a regular gig at a pub with a disused off sales 'shop' - used to have dayglo posters printed, mounted on a board in the window & left a uv tube on 24/7 - worked very well indeed (for several years).
14. 'Thumps' do not have a good rep - my tech always seems to have a couple in for repair..........
15. I'm sure it was my Celestion SR1 that allowed you to swivel the logo - why I can't imagine - would have been a better idea if Lord Claber of Brightinghelmstone had screwed the ruddy things on, really.............
16. Try a Google search for 'stage clothes' or 'Teddy Boy Clothing' -there's a shop in Huddersfield (Revival) does a nifty-looking Ted Drape jacket for 24quid....
17. Thinking out loud here, but Barefaced seem to find no issues with what you're proposing - why not have a glance at the tech stuff on their site, some of it might be helpful - if you're feeling really cheeky, you could pm Alex & ask - he might advise........
18. I've owned a Crown 2k XLS class D for a couple of years (roughly) and I've never had the inbuilt fan cut in yet, not that I've noticed. As other posters have said, valve amps tend not to have fans - I've had Marshall (plexi), Ormat & Matamp, none of which had blowers, nor needed them (though the big Ormats did get a bit warm towards the end of the night).I recently had my tech replace the jump-jet fan on my Marshall twin100 chassis with three slower, quieter (& more efficient) units.........you pays yer money..........
19. I'm guessing that EBay technically makes the sale on your behalf, a sort of 'agency' thing - where that leaves you if you make an 'informal' deal off the Bay with a foreign purchaser, I dread to think.............
20. That'll be back to carpet felt underlay then.............
21. Beside - Chris Squires (Yes, wot woz) legal team would have all their Christmases come early!
22. If anything was ever calculated to make me NOT sell from my individual on-line site, this hits the spot. It's a gift to Amazon, Bandcamp, EBay et al, who are now going to have a mass of sellers effectively forced to use their already overpriced services.......
23. I've just flicked through about 45 minutes (about 40 too much?). Joss Stone never seems to (quite) deliver, though she's improved with age Ronnie Spector I like, but the range ain't there no more, but a fun (& talented act) Paloma Faith - reeeally? Someone needs to tell this one that NO ONE struts like Tina.... ....reminded me of Mrs Overall on a talent show...... Someone earlier remarked about JH showboating, got it in one, so bloody irritating. I don't think I'll bother watching the rest.
