  1. Yes, do record a rehearsal/gig to capture the two-bass vibe. I used to be bothered about a gtr who would play some of the basslines with me. Then I learned on some Beatles songs Paul WANTED some of his parts doubled! You could embrace the bass. You could play some stuff up an octave for a 8string effect. Before you quit, try to get some allies in the band.
  2. If it bows a little, tighten the truss rod 1/4 turn at the most. That will make it move some.
  3. Every Sterling Ray 34 I have seen was one pickup, with a scratchplate. A selector switch only on the five-string Ray 35. Is that body a Music Man copy, mated to an Indonesian Sterling neck? The bridge is wrong.
  4. Fender has a Mystic Blue that is a new colour. (Mistic Blue ? -dark blue )
  5. Beautiful Buzzard!
  6. I have played one at a local store and would have bought it if it had a maple fingerboard. I got a Mint Green (semi-glossy ) with maple neck. It is a Musicians Friend exclusive colour. The blue one I played was like that row of basses pictured except darker. (darker than Lake Placid Blue) I like the transparent finishes a lot.
  7. Besides the solid construction and good balance you now have a nice active e.q. to fiddle with for a variety of top tones! My Ray 34 is now my favourite . Play On!
  8. A lot of people are against high-frequency horns but a 15 needs one, I think. There will be a big gap between the drivers and that is probably the reason it isn't done much. To get fancy and have a mid speaker raises the cost too much...
  9. According to the recent book about his life he was addicted to heroin for most of the 1970s. He hung in there for a good while , making distortion cool and then "getting clean" for the Cream reunion. That transplant almost finished him a decade ago. My teenage band did "Badge", "Sunshine Of Your Love", "Crossroads",and the tricky "White Room".
  10. If you have 50hZ boosted a lot the E string will be way louder. On my new Sterling Ray 34 and SUB4 I had to lower the pickup on the E string side so the Gstring could be as loud as the others.
  11. It will get attention and possibly bring you fame and fortune as it is! I put a white shell guard on one bass and a black shell pickguard on a light blue bass.Chrome and aluminium pickguards are costly but they look good.Your bass is easy to see on a dark stage.
  12. GK amps seem to really put out all the watts they claim. I recently got a regular GK with 700 watts and I am sure it is louder than my MAG 600 (Ashdown). Over on TalkBass a 500 Kustom is getting rave reviews. A mini GK 800 would be my pick.
  13. Give me chrome and I won't moan! Chrome allows you to reflect any spotlight that comes your way (to the bass player?) and makes you feel powerful.
  14. Stereo speakers (floor tower speakers) come with spikes to lock them tight with the floor. Casters are good if they are big and mounted well. Caster Update : -just put 4" casters on my new Ashdown ABM 410H. They have a total load capacity of 1,000 pounds.
  15. I believe the Ashdown is plywood and the Eden is MDF with a "whizzer" cone. The Eden 12 is also cube-shaped ; the Ashdown 12 has a separate tweeter. All four cabinets are decent mini cabinets.
  16. Celestion now make a neo-magnet 400 watt 15 in 8 ohms or 4ohms. This would upgrade your Marshall cabinet and also reduce the weight a bit.
  17. The Superfly is not real powerful. I got one and it sounded good in my living room . The presets were many good tones and the compressor gave interesting sounds. I got another 'Fly when they closed out . With a band it did not put out any more sound than a MAG 300. Get two cabinets to use both output sections. Good Luck. The new Rootmaster is better.
  18. Nice figuring on the body! When I played one in Guitar Center I liked the slim, straight neck with close buzz-free action.
  19. The Ampeg B410HLF is their bassiest 410. (the deep cabinet that tilts back to move) Next comes the PF 410 with ports on the back. There is a sealed 410 also that is like a SVT .
  20. Lovely Jaguar ! I have the same colour with a tortoise pickguard. These Japanese Jaguars seem to be discontinued (again) and we were lucky to get one new. Rock On!
  21. I want a 16ohm cabinet . If I had a 4ohm cabinet with two 10s connected in parallel to get 4ohms, and rewired them (two 8ohm speakers) in series to make 16ohms, would my crossover accept this? Would the horn get louder or stay the same? Or would I need a different crossover made for a 16ohm load?
  22. I should have mentioned the PF 210 has regular ceramic magnet speakers and is currently on sale (in the States) for $50 off. $350 ! Sorry, but it only has one handle. The Ashdown Neo ABM 210 would be a nice low-weight cabinet.
  23. I like Ashdown but the Rootmaster cabinets take the place of the MAG cabinets. They are less deep and may be less bassey. They are heavy probably because of MDF construction. Please try an Ampeg PF 210. They only weigh about 45 lbs.
  24. I have a similar problem. I just bought a used Ashdown ABM 610 with one blown 'Blueline". I have found no replacements except Eminence Beta , Eminence Delta, or some newish BL 10-200X Celestion. I am leaning toward this 200w Celestion. The Ashdown speaker says "made in England 150 watts".This cabinet is sealed. Opinions or advice wanted...
  25. I just bought The Who- Live In Texas 1975 . It is a concert DVD I got for only $10 and it has John Entwistle playing his regular-shaped Alembic. It sounds great! There s a lot of treble twang without much distortion.
