1. Those white blocks , with white head and body look so classy! Nice!
2. The Precision gets such a different vibe when you switch from playing between the pickup and the neck (nice and mellow) to using a pick near the bridge ( pianolike ). A Stingray seems alien or mutant by comparison.
3. I was thinking along those lines too. A 12 cabinet like an Ashdown Mibass 12 might be good.
4. The current Deluxe Jaguar Bass is still Japanese; all other (cheaper) Jaguars are not. The Sting Bass (Telecaster Bass ) is also made in Japan.
5. The only bass that has gotten compliments from women has been my 'Backer. The remarks were that it looks good ; not "It sounds good". Down here in Alabama you can go out on a Saturday night and hear ten bands in ten clubs and never hear a Rickenbacker! I own two and have my eye on a beautiful blue 4003. It costs about twice the price of a Fender Sting (Telecaster) . Help me decide...
6. If you want a cheaper version than the American Standard, there is the American Special Precision. Lighter tuners and bridge, case extra, and a neck that is more slim- for less money. They took the place of the discontinued Highway One basses.
7. You may want to try a new valve. They can last for years...
8.
Are you planning on using your bass to brace your cab?
No-that was a bit of humor. I would let the poplar grow and cut down birch. Fender changed that bass to alder.
9. For people who like a Precision better just use your neck pickup on your Rickenbacker. If the clanging treble from the bridge pickup is too much, turn down the tone knob for that pickup. As aggressive as the distortion is on " Smoke On The Water", many bands want it clean. Roger Glover seems to use a cleaner sound on the recent What Now? album. You probably don't want h. f. horns . They are too harsh for proper 'Purple tone.
10. My vote goes to the EBO, sometimes known as a "B.O. Bass". Recently I learned that an EBO with a Jazz Bass pickup added was used on the first Boston album. (More Than A Feeling)
11. What if it had colored lights inside? Maybe a red on top and an orange on the lower 'f' hole? They could surge to the music. Or just some glowing eyes inside?
12. My first clarinet was a Boosey & Hawks . Then a Le Blanc. Then a Jazz Bass and I forgot clarinet. It was the best part of school and I wish I still played... Selmer and Buffet are good too.
13. They have a nifty 215 cabinet with an adjustable crossover for the tweeter. You can choose (I think) 3k, 4k, or 5k for the horn to come on.I got an Ashdown ABM 610 that should be a real bargain in your area. Macca has used Mesa for a good while.
14. This is old news, but Fender bought Sunn a while back and killed it off. Sunn had a nice 1200 watt head (@2 ohms) that Fender later copied. They did save Gretsch from extinction and I am glad of that. Maybe they could revive Mosrite and Travis Bean?
15. My oldest Precision is a black '78 with a maple fingerboard. Is yours unusually heavy? I agree with the earlier comment that it will always sound like a Precision (what's wrong with great?) . After you get some strings try playing at other places for different sounds: 1- By the bridge for a more piano-like sound, 2- Same thing with a pick, 3- Both of these with a touch of palm muting at the bridge saddles .I have recently begun to use my thumb for a fat bass content and some thumbnail "click".
16. I got a MAG 600/ABM 610 that is louder than I expected and has a tight control of the note.
17. This 450 watt @2 ohm head did not deserve to be phased out but it seems to no longer be available in the States. I got one with only one speaker jack working but the amp sounds good. Maybe the Marshall -Eden connection will give us something new?
18. That cabinet with 4 8s is interesting. I have heard of Sica speakers but not an 8 that can handle hundreds of watts. The 210 looks good also.
19. I just got the Evo3 and I have had the Evo 1 for several years. For a long time the meter barely moved. Then I cranked a few E.Q. knobs and the amp "came alive". It still won't sound like The Who- Live At Leeds but it would be great for Tommy (original studio version). I don't know if it really pumps 575 watts @4ohms. Probably it does fine with enough speakers. I might try the Gallien Krueger 1001RB if I need more watts. The Ashdown with a lot of sliders might be better but costs more...
20. I was tempted by the MiBass 550 until it was discontinued for the simple Version 2.0. Three tone controls. Less power. Give me more knobs, sliders, watts, and meters! More colored lights and speaker jacks. So I got another MAG 600.
21. New MAG 600- I got a new EVO 3 MAG 600 recently for my ABM 610 and it puts out some loud, tight and well-dampened bass with fair highs. I have the bright switch on and the treble and upper mids at 3:00. This head looks a lot better than the rat-fur EVO 1. The compressor and overdrive will be used on a few songs but I would trade the harmonic generator for a chromatic tuner or a 2ohm capability. Nice upgrade Ashdown!
22. During the 1970s the Stones used Ampeg amps and they had a more saturated, psychedelic sound. They are on Get Yer Ya Yas Out (1969 live in NY). Now Keith and Ronnie use Fender combos and get more treble "cut" and less distortion. I like both -do you? Does Daryl use a regular SVT or something else? What amp does Bill Wyman use?
23. I had heard Daryl had resigned from the Stones in the last year or so. What kind of salary do you suppose he gets when they aren't touring? Does Charlie make less on tours than Keith and Mick?
24. - Don't know for sure. It has a sterio plug at the end and both switches are "push on and push off'. Try the bargain footswitch; it might work fine.
25. the Marshall MB450H uses a two-button footswitch. One button switches channels. One button combines both channels or makes it either channel.
