How the hell did I miss this thread in 2011? This is the reason I am salivating over @Bridgehouse 's bass that he's selling. I think Burke's was bought in 1969 ish from a Cardiff music shop called Gamlins

I posted this on the 2nd May in the DOI thread ….it seems appropriate here too...... This date is a troublesome one for me....Seven years ago today my Dad died, leaving me as the eldest in the Sharpe family. This in itself is depressing enough but it makes me remember that 2013 was a bit of an Annus Horribilis for me. One of my best mates, a fantastic drummer, died that year too. It was also the year that the young lady I left my life in Tenerife( some five years earlier) for, and I,went our separate ways. Ammicably it has to be pointed out but sad never the less. The point of inflecting this misery on you all is You lot ….yes YOU, make it impossible to stay down for long! This thread is my comfort zone of crazy ,funny, nay hilarious companionship. The imagination, intelligence and wit displayed on here leaves me astounded at times. I try to keep up but, sometimes I just have to sit back in admiration and laugh myself senseless. No need for sympathy chaps and chapesses….all is good in the Mondo household; I just wanted to share my appreciation of your collective skills. Dr Mondeaux Finks yer awl ggrate annall Thank you bass chatters. BUT …. really the answer is..... Thank you basschat for @skankdelvar… The stories of his past life are just wonderful 😉

Always nice to hear how people on here help each other.

Musicians have been being replaced by machines for decades. To the extent that twenty odd years ago the fabulous "floating building" music studio at the Central TV site, in Nottingham, was dormant. It used to be full of people making music for TV programs, performers doing live shows...composers writing theme tunes; Then along came some bright 16 year old with his/her casio keyboard and it all disappeared. So much so, that after a couple of years of my band using it for band practice/recording ( free because the drummer was a sound engineer there!) it was gturned into …. Gulp.....the set for the remake of Crossroads! The TV studios are now long gone. I am still playing though ...as are all the other members of that band ...as are most of the pro musicians that played in there I'm sure. ( Well Tom Jones doesn't do much these days but hey ...small blessings and all that 😉 ).

My upcoming Newcastle Arena gigs... a kind-of diary thread

There looks to be a fair bit of stuff to get on stage there. I'll bet the lead singer hasn't bought in as much as a mic stand! 😉 I am enjoying your thread again this year...thank you for keeping it going...I'd wish you luck for the gig but I think you are more than capable of making your own luck from what I've seen of your playing! -
Are there any covers bands specialising in cheese?
Raymondo replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
My mate Colin ( Gibb) of Black lace fame has the likes of Agadoo, Music man , Penny Arcade etc covered in the Tenerife market 😉 Joking aside, Although it's not my sort of musical fish, I have watched him do the Balck lace thing many times and the audiences always love it. You will get gigs everywhere with a set like the one you hinted at, covering all age ranges and social standing....cue boozy pubs, "officers mess" Holiday camps, and corporate gigs all over the place....good luck with it. You can always play your slipknot set at a local open mic night ,should you have any spare time 🙂 -
Crikey NOOOOOOO … I have enough trouble using the graphic ones ! 😉

I'm a little confused here ..are you all having a go at a musician that has suffered the loss of her ,much loved, nay treasured, unique instrument? Just because it was likened to the loss of a limb? She didn't even sat that ! Do you really think that that is what she thinks? It's a figure of speech , used by many. She has had the piano for decades, takes it every where and it is the only one of it's make that has four pedals apparently. Instead of getting upset about a figure of speech can we not all see the tragic loss of a treasured instrument here?

I have mentioned My love for Budgie and Burke Shelley in particular on here many times over the years. I first saw them in1973 and bought all their albums for many years...lost track a bit in the '90s and didn't keep up with collecting their releases but always loved to hear from them. Good luck Mr Shelley, thank you for the music and more importantly, thank you for inspiring me to play bass..... You will always be my hero.

Have you thought of setting up a "go fund me " page ? They are very trendy I believe ;you might be able to afford a decent practice amp then. I'd send in a couple of bottle tops and a pack of 51 playing cards to help raise funds......I lost the 7 of clubs down the back of the sofa

Ever been camping in Oxwich Bay on the Gower?
Raymondo replied to Pea Turgh's topic in General Discussion
I've been to the Gower but if you were rude to me I wouldn't have noticed.... I had just left my wife and was taking the kids on a pre arranged holiday ...It was fabulous and the kids did love it, so it couldn't have been too bad 🙂 Good luck with your search. -
Lead Singers who play Bass!
Raymondo replied to Ted Theodore Logan, III's topic in General Discussion
I think the picture is from Wayne's world ..the lady was Wayne's girlfriend I believe.. .She could well be a famous bass player as far as I know too! The guy on the right ( green shirt) looks like the guy in the band that won the " battle of the bands" in School of Rock ...also could be a famous guitarist for all I know ! I ain't no Film buff either ..I just happen to like Wayne's World and School of Rock 🙂- 141 replies
