This is my fave novelty single of all time. I know it's more of a comedy "song" but any excuse...

How far does your bass geekery go?
Raymondo replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I have a bass. I bought it in 1992 (ish) I have changed the strings a few times and I took it for a "set up" once ,a long time ago. occasionally I clean it. That's it really. -
I am one of those that fell for his comedy charms in the Seventies. I didn't like his later, shouty, persona and, agreed, Magic Roundabout was very cheesy; However I loved his stand up stuff. I paid the princely sum of 50p to watch him live at the Nottingham Theatre Royal when he was at the height of his early stand up success and I thought he was brilliant. I'm sure it's not just you though that didn't find him funny!😊

Ah but they did ban that, hence the bemused look on the babyfaced audience members on Top of The Pops, when Mr Carrot appeared on stage "singing" Funky Moped.😁
-
Now come on @Jack_Stroud_Bass you know very well that we all have to stand around talking about Arron's unusual drum kit!🙄

I have just booked a night in a small cottage, on air bnb for the Saturday night.....busy month of music and travel for me ...the following week I am going ( again) to the Wotton-under Edge Blues festival.😎

-
Don't worry Blue ...nobody notices the bass player any way 😉

Rock is finished - it has nothing more to say!

I don't really care what Mr Gillespie has to say, he's entitled to his opinion of course, I just listen to any genre of music that I like. My problem is, I am not a real man...………...I do not own a drill! -
Shakespeare's Sister on Graham Norton?
Raymondo replied to lowregisterhead's topic in General Discussion
Don't worry Ricky some of us find you mildly amusing...………... occasionally😜 -
Snap. born in 57 lived in Nottingham and we all used those exact same labels for the same bands. I have never really cared what the music was labelled as, I either liked it or I didn't.🙂

When I lived in Tenerife we had an afternoon party around the apartment blocks pool. We were "asked " to stop playing by half a dozen Guardia Civil with automatic weapons pointed at us and the threat of having our equipment confiscated if we made any more noise😨

This is a bit of a long winded way around the problem but..... I am going to the Mearfest NWOBHM weekend in Slough on 1st June to see one of my old bands ( SYZ) play a spot. I have already arranged to meet @Brook_fan at Reading Railway station at midday on Saturday 1st to pick up a bass I loaned him last year when he was in need of some support. I could drive down to Northampton at some point before hand to pick up your bass and as long as you can get to Reading station at midday on the Saturday You can pick it up there. I won't be able to stop and chat too long as the festival starts at 1.30 and I would need to get to Slough to check in at my hotel before going there. Robbie will be coming up from Hampshire and may have the time to share the delights of reading with you though? You could all come to the festival to see some sad old rock bands if you wish?😜 Just an Idea 😊 Ray

Can I just pop my head in here and vote for Mr Hughes' band Trapeze? I only saw them in 1975 when (I think) they were a trio and I bought the album of the same name. Apparently their first album was called Trapeze also but I bought the later version. I remember being mightily impressed with his vocals and bass playing. For some reason I never explored their back catalogue ( I was still in the grips of my Budgie obsession then ,is my only excuse!). As you were....back to Purple.😊

It's next on ,on Saturday 11th May at 23.50 pm. I have just set my Tivo box to record it.

I wrote a book about being in a covers band
Raymondo replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
Excellent news ...I was struggling to find the time to read the pdf you kindly sent me. Now I have ordered a copy you get to splash out spending the massive royalties on a debauched life style, and I get to read it without lugging my laptop around. A win/win I believe! -
Hello and welcome. I imagine that set up sounds pretty damn good! Enjoy the forum, we are, mostly😉, a friendly bunch on here.

Count me in! I found Budgie by accident.. I had tickets to see Stan Webbs' Chicken Shack at the Boat club in Nottingham in either1972 or1973 and they didn't turn up. We were all given free tickets for the next gig which was Budgie. It was the "Never turn your back on a friend" tour I assume because they played Breadfan. I ended up buying all their Albums up until the late Eighties when I couldn't afford to keep buying albums any more ( Kids hey....who'd 'ave 'em ?😜) I learned bass by trying to copy his bass lines. I still love listening to their music and I still love Burke's bass lines.

Budgie , my favourite band...I'm old😜 Breadfan is probably their most famous song.
