The Achievers at the York Blues festival on Saturday (6th April). featuring our own @Jack_Stroud_Bass on ….you guessed it...Bass Guitar! Last gig I went to..... The Achievers at the SVA in Stroud … I live in Ilkeston Derbyshire; I guess you could say I have become a bit of a fan.

I hope the gig went well. Unfortunately my Fibromyalgia did for me again and I was too knackered to make the gig...maybe next time😥

But leaving feedback hasn't helped. His emails are being ignored...he asks for help from any BC'er in the area that The bass Doctor operates in, in resolving the situation...Is that bad or am I missing something here? As I said , I know neither party and have no particular axe to grind, but I am interested in the outcome much the same as I was when two members on here were scammed by that guy in Staffordshire....I donated to the fund to help the guys recover some money. It's just a social justice kind of thing for me I suppose, I would rather help people if I can and that includes The bass doc in this case if he is seriously struggling... I mean no offence. 🙂

We may well be but ... (1) It's still current for the op and (2) some new members may not know the story. I know none of the people involved, I was under the impression that The Bass Doctor was well liked until the were were some rumblings on here a while ago and when it seemed that it was resolved due to some personal problems, I was happy to believe that this community was all good....It seems that this is not the case. There may well be another side to the story but at the moment, one of our members is out of pocket...it would be good to hear what happens.

I have bought all three of Dave's books because he told us about his first one here...I can't buy yours if you don't tell me what it is.🙂

Sorry to hear about your band problems Blue. Will you be ok? You have mentioned many times that you rely on the income. I hope things get easier for you. Ray.

I missed this in February. I will be ordering the paperback later this week..... Can't have an author not making money, just don't spend all the royalties at once Dave😜

Ha ha something similar for me back in the nineties. Guitarist and me had a bust up on stage and I did the "it's me or him " strop afterwards.... They chose me. Interestingly a couple of years later I answered an ad for a bass player needed and it was him. He told me to audition anyway as it would be a band decision and he thought that I would be a good fit ( very decent of him I thought). I went ,full of trepidation and got the gig! we did a lot of function band stuff on the military basses here and in Germany but after a year or so his "gutarishness ( 😉 )" re -surfaced and every one fell out with him again...we just replaced him and his singer girlfriend and carried on😎 I have left my bass propped up against a wall a few times. always got it back, though once it was an anxious overnight wait until a guy who followed the band rang to say he had it...he'd found it on his way out of the venue!

Try moving this to the General Discussion forum ( it is music related after all) @BigRedX may have an Idea...he seems very knowledgeable on effects and keyboards etc. I don't think he visits Off Topic very often. Good luck.

2450 people singing "i'm just looking" at the top of their voices back at us at Rock City is one of the most emotional things I have ever experienced! It must be amazing to be in a band that plays huge venues every gig, the energy coming back at you is quite intense. I can see why some people get a little carried away after the gig (that's a whole new thread right there)😜

I played in a Stereophonics tribute band ...well sound alike rather than look alike... I played the biggest gigs of my life with them ...Main Stage Rock City...I earned decent money ( though the function band I did the military bases with paid better 🙂 )and had fun!. The best bit is the crowd at every gig are there because they want to hear the songs, so no playing to an empty bar. Go for it, Ignore the naysayers, if you don't like it you can always leave but if you don't try it you'll never know what it's like.

That was the point of me posting the fact😉 Actually Colin is a nice guy and a more than capable bass player. Whenever I go to visit friends I catch a "Black Lace party" show and although it's as cheesy as a '70's fondue party the punters love it!

No. But Colin Gibb( of Black Lace infamy ) replaced me in the band I left when I returned to the UK after a stint in Tenerife.😎😜😂

@Mykesbass I forgot to congratulate you on the gig ...good stuff! My biggest gig was playing Rock City Nottingham . I was in a Stereophonics tribute band and played there three times in 2004/05 and 09 as part of a "monsters of rock" type bank holiday gig, for a few charities. The first time the venue didn't open the upstairs bars because they had no idea how successful it would be. after that the venue was sold out ...2450 capacity.... I loved every second of it.😍

I have tickets to the Stroud gig and the York gig ...looking at getting to the Newark gig too...hope you are well and happy ...I'll buy you a beer when we next meet up! Won't make it to Skeggy as they don't sell tickets for just the night time ...day tickets require you to be out by 6.00 pm ish… have a blast though!

My first "decent bass" was an Arbiter ...same colour ...but mine had a cover over the bridge pick up that kind of "floated" ..my playing style meant that I kept leaning on it and it collapsed on to the strings....I had it sliver riveted in the "up" position and never had a problem afterwards...loved that guitar, like you I wish I had not sold it!

Market Harborough Working Mens Club . some time in 1974 . I had a terrible Audition ( Woolworths brand I believe , certainly that's where I bought it from) bass that I gigged with for six months before getting something half decent. We knew 12 songs and had to do 3x 20 mins sets plus an encore....We had many requests to play "this again" 😉 Travelled from Nottingham, four of us in the band ...got paid £29.00.

You don't need to know all the technical stuff ….it has lights people....FLASHING LED LIGHTS😍😜😎

I have never learned the double bass and although I think they do look quite cool I have never been tempted to buy one. I bought an acoustic bass on a whim with the idea of playing it at my local's acoustic jam but haven't played it much. I agree with a fair few of your reasons to not like them Robbie., but it is easier to have an impromptu get together without having to lug an amp around. I hope you are still using it and that it is helping you to get by. Ray.

I saw them at NFFC's City Ground in 2005. Idlewild, The Zutons and then REM . Fabulous line up, each band brilliant in the pouring rain...loved every minute of it. Well worth the £30 ticket price.

The lead guitarist probably thinks that his is an important , integral part of the song...….he is wrong. I played in a band where the lead guitarist left and we just carried on playing gigs. We even carried on covering All Right Now...with no lead break. Nobody ever made any comment ...they just all sang along with the chorus as usual and we continued to get re-booked. In short…..ignore him.😜
