  1. I didn't have the confidence ( or the technical skill) to think of a career in music as possible. Like most youngsters I had no idea what I wanted to do for a living (sleeping all day and going to the pub at night wasn't an option apparently!), my Mum was insistent that I was going to University to qualify as a history teacher. After a spectacular argument involving me saying that I didn't want to do that ,and her insisting that I tell her WHAT I wanted to do instead I blurted out...PLUMBER ( I have no idea why!). The next day I came home from school and was taken to a family friend's house, for an interview with his friend, who owned a plumbing business... et Voila..I was an apprentice plumber! It was years later after playing the clubs, pubs, and corporate circuit as a part timer, that I moved to Tenerife, joined a band and earned a "living" playing bass for three and a half years. Maybe doesn't carry the Kudos of being in a famous band, or even, teaching music and playing in theaters, but I enjoyed my time playing to the holiday makers...having a laugh and generally being an irresponsible fifty year old. 😉
  2. Family. It's only a Movie. It was their attempt at cracking the American market and was quite a departure...I love it!
  3. I'm here now...the whitelocks and all the other small pubs were fabulous but nearly all of them only had pale ales ...I like good old fashioned "amber" bitter and my go to reserve of Cider was also not to my taste in aany of them, hence I didn't stay long in any of them. The Duck and Drake is still a spit and sawdust pub .. suits me ... and the band are apparently Americana, which I don't mind ... looks like I'll be here all night( they have two Amber bitters) ! 👍👍
  4. Thanks for the info... I'll investigate Whitelocks and then the Duke and Drake( where The Achievers were going to play) and if it's not my thing I'll try your suggestions kirky..cheers.
  5. Clearly Leeds will be bereft of BCers this evening.....except me....who'll be wandering around the city trying to find an ordinary Pub....jeez they like a bar and food combo here don't they!
  6. I have train tickets and hotel paid for tonight in Leeds, as I was going to The Acheivers gig...Unfortunately it has been cancelled. Any of you lovey lot playing tonight? ..I might come along and heckle say hi!
  7. Oh sorry OP I was too busy ribbing Ricky I forgot... There she goes by The La's I loved the single ...thought the album dreary as!
  8. Once again you young uns no nuffink! Roxy Music were fab maaaan. I saw them in all their pomp (Eno still on weird noises machine) I loved 'em. Castles?....CASTLES?....you are Whelsh ..Whales is full of the damn things ( I know I think I passed them all on my six hour road trip yesterday). I bet you live in one. No offence
  9. Turn over every 15 mins if you want a crispy skin though.
  10. I tried to watch it earlier... Jeez! doddery old blokes running around in ridiculous clothes making every cliched "rock" pose ever invented. I thought that I had accidentally recorded Spinal Tap2 when I saw the polystyrene bricks and Pagodas....Bruce Dickenson in a Japanese style top knot .WTF?
  11. That.....is a thing of beauty! I want it.... I NEEEEEDS IT ...well I need the dosh first I suppose*. As an aside from the drooling ... My first "proper" bass was an Arbiter Ric copy that I purchased new in 1974 ( I think) it was ace! GLWTS * If it's still hanging around at the end of July, when I get my pension lump sum, I might well be winging my way to Cleethorpes!
  12. Power leads arrived as promised. Excellent communication ...I was given an hour slot for delivery, via text, and they arrived bang on time.
  13. I ordered an EV PA "bundle" on Friday last week. It promised Monday6th delivery in the ad but when I had my order confirmation e-mail the date had changed to Tuesday 7th. That wasn't convenient for me so I changed it to Wednesday ( today)between 09.00 and 13.00hrs. It arrived at 11.30 am..... complete with Euro power leads! I telephoned them and a nice Guy, calling himself Matt ( I have no reason to doubt him), immediately apologised and promised to send two UK ones ,by courier, to arrive tomorrow. I offered to post the others back to them but he said not to bother. Excellent service, excellent communication and, a happy Raymondo so far.
  14. That's weird....I didn't post what you quoted yet it has my name on it!... I posted this :- .....
  15. I recently went to see Danny Baker and Bob Harris on their tour. Mr Baker, whom lived through the Punk movement, touring with the bands, and generally "having a good time" on NME expenses, said pretty much the same thing.
  16. Only for a very brief period of time ( three years) have I earned enough from gigging to make my living. This was only achievable ( for me) because I was living in Tenerife at the time and had a lodger to help with the rent. The five piece band I was in made very little money; by far the largest percentage of my income came from selling my soul to the Devil,ie:- I was in two duos and a trio ,all of whom used backing tracks. I had a great time though because I never was precious about such things. I have even been a Karaoke compare in the past!
  17. If you are not in Ricky's ....you are in mine!
  18. Ok, ok, you've dragged it out of me... I bought this... And NOT because I was a pathetic teenager who fancid Thereza Bazar, I actually quite liked some of their songs. Happy now? I've tried to keep that a secret you know? 😉
  19. I found some recordings of me playing with my good friend Steve McGill. Back in 2004 (I think) recorded at a gig at The Miners Arms, Huthwaite.
  20. Yeah for some reason we got lot's of gigs playing to the Soldiers and Airmen! 😉
  21. Back to the Nineties when I was in a band playing the "military" circuit. I'm not sure which is worse...the hair or the shirt!
  22. A +1 here for Ashdown's customer service. They are excellent. Good luck with the search for gear and good luck to your son for the gig.
