Did Bilbo dep on Moondance ?

Not quite the same I know but this reminded me of the stamina we used to have to undertake the following a few times back in the nineties. Meet up and load van at around 5.00 am in Nottingham ....drive to Ramsgate,Ferry to Ostend then drive to Padeborne in Germany. Invariably arrive too late to get to hotel in time as we always had to be on site to set up and sound check before the gig. Play two or three 45min/hour sets between 8.30 and 1.00 am (depending on which Mess we played in...the Officers mess sometimes went on untill breakfast).... then, sleep in the van as the hotel was closed ....we did however manage to persuade the manager to let us use the rooms to nap and freshen up, after they re-opened at 8.30 am ,before setting off for the next gig. Sometimes it was just a Friday and a Saturday gig ,others had a Sunday tagged on too ....then it was a mad dash across Europe to get to Ostend in time to have a few beers and a spag bol in the pub across the road from the ferry before traveling home!... phew I'm knackered just writing about it.

There is a tee shirt signed by everyone that took part so it shouldn't be too difficult to work out.
You might end up prepared for the wrong version ;-) i'd prepare some dirty synth sound just in case https://www.youtube....h?v=ujcgcvOD_wc I'll get me coat :-P
Arrrghhh My ears,my ears!!! Damn you sir, I had managed to forget that this appalling noise existed ( other opinions are available etc etc)

+1 from me too. Your post reminded me of a documentary I once watched of them recording a track. A quick 'tinternet searched produced this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT46kIDD8dk If you go down the list there is a posting of the documentary in full but when I tried to imbed that link it didn't work!

I know it's a sample and a bit obvious but, I hate it when the lovely intro to Ventura highway comes on the radio and it ends up being bl**dy Janet Jackson and Someone to call my lover!

ANY of those is better than bl**dy Delta

Rock covers band, a couple of which have made it into the "off the beaten track covers" thread and a few are in the "Groundhog day covers" thread over in General discussion. It's a bikers pub with great beer, friendly people and a late bar....what's not to like?
Context is all. Build me up, Buttercup and Sweet Caroline are songs that have taken up residence in social clubs, not in many pub band sets. Don't think I'd want to do Buttercup in a pub but Sweet Caroline would be worth a shot.
That's interesting and very true. I suppose the tourist bars in Tenerife do have a more "social club" type customer base. I've played more than my fair share of those places in my time They are both staples in Karaoke bars too......yes I have been a Karaoke compare in the past....gotta earn a living some how -
Build Me Up, Buttercup - The Foundations Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond
I am assuming that this is a wind up....in the nicest possible way ColinB....As I had to play these virtually every night of the week when I was earning a living in Tenerife. I hated them both but they did make the tourists happy! -

We play Don't stop by Fleetwood Mac and My coo ca choo ,Alvin Stardust. They always get a good response. We finish our night of (mostly) classic rock covers (the kind that appear in the "other thread") with a Monkey man/Lip up fatty mix that always has people dancing and generally larking about. It's the only band I've played in that has covered these but I am willing to accept that they might not make the list as you guys have all probably played them before! -
If we are going to be rating the niceness (or not) of Midland musicians shell, I can vouch for Raymond Froggatt. Thoroughly nice guy,and Hartley Cain. In fact the whole band were brilliant with me and my mates when we met them in the Seventies. Ray always remembered me and shared a pint or two when I went to see him a few times around Notts in the eighties and nineties too. Mind you he did nearly kill my girlfriend with a pool ball back in 1976!

Very interesting read regarding streaming services.
Raymondo replied to ambient's topic in General Discussion
When we release a CD, it's put up for sale on itunes, amazon etc. but it's also added to these streaming services at the same time. I'm pretty sure we've made more off streaming than we have off downloads ...but we make more money flogging physical products at gigs, which I guess is the same for most smaller bands without financial backing. I don't see a big problem
I wondered if this was the case.... I recently acted as "sound engineer" at a gig, five acts (all just guitar vocalists) doing covers and originals. Every one of them had business cards telling you about their Facebook page and streaming sites, not one of them had a cd to sell. I would have bought a couple and the audience was, shall we say, similarly elderly? so I am sure a few more could have been sold too. -
I'm disappointed myself as we had tickets for the Murrayfield gig, had booked accommodation , taken holidays etc. but at least I don't have to put up with a poor substitute.
Me too....I was looking forward to seeing Royal Blood also Flights and accommodation already paid for so a Monday to Friday Edinburgh trip with my four sons is the order of the day
Dont know ? They are running at 24 Month waiting list on up from 18 on some basses. They are in profit, unlike Fender ? They pay living wages to American workers and not outsource jobs to China. Who's daft ? You start selling Fake Nike trainers, fake CD's, fake any big brand and see what happens. I don't think he gives a sh*t to be honest, you either want one or you don't. But you are not copying them and thats that.
But it's not about copying them that all the fuss is about.....sure go for the Chinese factories that are making them and selling them now ...it's about him going after individuals. I bought an Arbiter copy in 1975, I was 17 and had no Idea that it could have been illegal. I bought it from a reputable shop new. I sold it a couple of years later(oh how I wish I had kept it!!1) and was happy. Fast foreward to Today,if I was selling it now, even though I bought it 40 years ago, in good faith,Mr Hall and his cronies would be on my back straight away. In my opinion he is being unreasonable. I know American copyright law says that he has to be seen to be protecting his patent but going after individuals? really? come on! Attack the manufacturers and the distributors ....they should know by now that they shouldn't be dealing in fakes, but give a kid a break if he bought one twenty/thirty years ago!
Okay, this is for a colleague of mine. His son (14) and friends are in a band and they have been picked to play on a minor stage at a small local festival in a 'Battle of the Bands' kind of format. They have been told that they will need to provide their own PA, as last year some of the bands claimed they were not very good because of the provided PA. Now I have never used a PA and neither has my colleague (both Brass players historically) - so we are not sure what level of equipment this would entail. Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing and could suggest what type of kit (possibly with examples) that they should be looking at?
This made me think that it was one stage being used by a few bands.......hence the opinion that each band setting up their own PA between sets would take too long. If as Dad says they are all setting up in different areas and playing at different times then fine ,I can see how that would work. All along people have been saying that more information is required!

It is still not practical for each band to provide their own PA for a 45 mins slot, much too much work involved to set up between bands. Any festival with a multi band line up will have a PA installed and the bands just play their best and hope the sound engineer makes them sound good Mixing your self on stage at an outdoor event is a nightmare ! I f you are asking for ideas on a PA for a band that will be doing gigs regularly in pubs and clubs then there will be plenty of people along with their ideas but be warned, it will cost , probably well over a thousand pounds. You will need a mixing desk ,amp, speakers cables ,mics, micstands ....the list is endless. I have been in bands that have had £11,000 rigs and I have been in bands that play through a pair of crappy old Carlsbro speakers and an old 300 watt amp that probably only cost £200 (KevB will back me up on that one ) where the difference in quality of sound and portabillity is obvious from their cost! your colleague needs a lot more information before purchasing for just two gigs....unless he is quite rich and has a large van .....At this point I was going to say...in which case get down the music store and fill your boots.....but pubs and clubs require a different rig to outdoor festivals so he will still be non the wiser!

Does that mean that the organisers are not providing a P.A ? Will every band be asked to provide their own? If so that will not work! PA's are expensive, even if you go low end and second hand it's hundreds of pounds. You need more in formation. If they are asking the band to provide a PA and let all the other bands use it I would walk away. As a young band they will be keen to play,I would have been, but the festival organisers should provide a decent PA as a minimum. If they already owned a PA I would think differently, and they will need one to play their own gigs, but buying one just to play a battle of the bands at a festival is asking rather a lot I think.
