Wicked bass solo... on Radio 1 ! :)
Raymondo replied to Paul Galbraith's topic in General Discussion
What do you want? Some old crooning bastard like Paul Rogers on it or summat? Not digging it is cool but saying it's crap because you can't understand it is unclassy. I wasn't that keen on the solo to be honest, I liked the tune though.
That's a bit harsh.I usually like your contributions ,so maybe you are having a bad day. He doesn't say it's "crap" just that he "wouldn't call it good"...I agree,I don't like it and I didn't like the solo either....I like Paul Rogers (well the two "OLD" bands he sang with)...doesn't make me right and you wrong, just means we like different music. -
Hotel, petrol, eleventeen pints of Wadsworth 6x and a kebab...yes ...quite costly but well worth it...no the expense will be when i give in to the GAS created by hearing (and most importantly lifting!) Steves' Barefaced cab Oh I get the tone and sound I like from my own rig....but it weighs more than a house....that Orange amp and Barefaced compact rig sounded awesome and can be carried in one hand ....oh yes I have been converted....just the small matter of being able to afford the upgrade now! Does that answer your question Steve? Great gig ,thoroughly enjoyed the song selection ...and indeed the beer and Kebab.

Well I bought mine 24 years ago and played it "straight out of the box" never had it looked at ,don't know anything about "setting up a bass" and I have managed fine.I have pretty much always used Rotosound strings 45-105....tried Elites a few years back, didn't like them. Not much help I am afraid ...but you did ask

Very very tired still today....fibromyalgia is a b**ch!...still I should mention our gigs as KevB drove all the way to Birmingham and bought the lovely Seashell to see us at The white Horse in Harborne on Friday night. I thought it went well and was a busy night for the pub ......so they were happy....we got booked back for two Fridays next year and three Saturdays at the other pub they own in Cradley Heath so I assume that they were very happy We had a small gang of bikers come to see us who also really enjoyed our set and took details to book us at their festival next year Saturday saw us play at the Polish Center in Nottingham ...a private party ...big stage....very loud disco ...lots of drunken party goers....including the Hostess who kept coming on stage grabbing my mike and swearing at her guests to "come and dance you miserable f***ers!" she even managed to completely destroy my mic stand, these young forty year old party throwers really need to grow up That aside (she is a friend and was very apologetic the next day!) the gig went well ...dep drummer was awesome ( knew he would be...KevB knows who I am talking about ) and I have become a bit of a celebrity among my group of friends who had never seen me play before. great weekend ....paying for my silly dance moves and my rock star poses now though
Go and see them tomorrow night and I'll dep for you in Brum
No chance!...i've only just got back into the band.I don't need someone coming along and showing them how the bass lines SHOULD be played.

The bar in the hills...Tajinaste was awesome when we first started playing there, they got greedy and asked us to play there too often in my opinion. it lost some of the atmosphere, but we always had a blast! I am afraid Kevin passed away last December.......I was over for most of November and into December to help Maggie ,his partner with visits to hospital etc. He was one of the nicest, most generous, warm and friendly people I have ever met.He is sorely missed.
Sorry, bit of a thread hijack but did you get to play much in Tenerife. I'm a regular visitor to the Gigantes/ Puerto Santiago area and wondered if I had seen you. I've also sometimes had thoughts of moving out there and doing a bit of playing to pay the rent.
I played almost exclusively in the puerto/gigantes area from 2006 to 2008. I was the bass player in the local band, variously called It's immaterial (can't remember the first name we used!) and phoenix...I still guest with them when I go over. we split the band into a few different acts..."the Fender boys"...me Kevin and Paul. "just one more" ...me and smithy the bands singer . Kevin (the bands drummer but also a singer guitarist) and me played as a duo. We had gigs at Tajinaste,Route66,The Cabaret bar, The green corner,The Bamboo bar,Pilgrims...well everywhere in the area in fact! we even played at festivals in the square. I loved it and it was the only time I managed to make a living from my bass.

Ah ha!!! I was so consumed by the joy of having secured a berth in the centre of English culture that is Trowbridge , that I couldn't see through my rose tinted spectacles to the date of the thread. I fear now I must call in to spec savers during my jolly jaunt "dahn Saaff" as i believe the southern people pronounce it? in order to correct my vision.

That would be cool Kev ! I would offer you a lift but I am staying over for the night.
I think both are low-quality enough to not really warrant a court case. No 'artist' has been slighted here.
Damn there goes 39 years of playing bass....I taught myself by learning Burke Shelley basslines...I guess I should dump all my Budgie albums too! Still you are never too old to learn eh?

We are back ...Delta....for another night of good old rock covers and self deprecating humour after the fabulous Bass relay handover gig there last month! First time I have played there on a Friday.....I hope the natives are still friendly!
-
Sunday is the 26th not the 24th....I have just booked a night out in Wiltshire on the 25th to hand over the bass relay baton ....might manage to get back on the Sundayin time ...I have been trying to get to see you lot for ages!
-
You are too kind Dad,thank you. I see it as another donation to the charity and a means of having a night out somewhere different. I get to watch a band I wouldn't otherwise get to see too......a win win I feel!

I am taking the bass down to The White Swan in Trowbridge on Saturday the 25th of October to hand it over to sbrag at his gig there...nice little B&B booked so that I can enjoy a pint or two and watch the gig.....my first time in Trowbridge...come and join us!!
-
The white Swan in Trowbridge is the place to be on Saturday 25th of October....Steve,better known as sbrag on here has a gig there and I am taking the bass down to hand it over to him. It would be good to see some of you there if you are not gigging!

Hi Jon, welcome! I see you are playing the Dixies in the new year....I love that pub ..tiny tiny TINY room but great people...at least they where when I last played there 10years or more ago Enjoy the site, post your gigs on here and you never know a slightly dubious looking old bloke with a beard and a big pointy nose might just come along to see how bass SHOULD be played
-
I am sure I can sort that...i'll PM you.

I too can vouch for their service. A few years ago my combo stopped working at the end of a gig.I had bought it new approximately three years previously so I gave it to a friend to repair. He rang Ashdown to get replacement parts and they asked him for the serial number, when he gave it to them they replied....."that is still under warranty,we have a five year warranty on our products," A replacement board for the pre amp section and a new speaker( it had burnt out the coil) was sent free of charge. I know that some people would say ,so they should it's under warranty but my friend was/is a DIYer...not a registered business or agent for Ashdown . I thought that their honesty was refreshing. When I later moved to Tenerife and needed a new amp I bought an Ashdown!

A reminder......the bass is in Nottingham, and I can take it to where you live, if you want to keep the ball rolling!
-
Friday 17th October is the next gig Seashell....same venue and Nick mentioned he might come down too!
-
I don't know what to say Nick Edited to get Nicks name right!
-
Saturday night was fabulous! a good responsive crowd at The White Lion in Harborne. Nick ( GrammeFriday on here!) came along with his lovely lady Carole to hand over the Bass relay baton...pics available on the bass relay thread....... So the bass now lives with me in Nottingham if anybody wants to carry on the relay? I am happy to drive anywhere in the country, given enough notice, to hand it over if needed. I was surprised how well we played to say it had been two years since we last gigged and had only had two rehearsals! Nick was kind enough to say that my bass sounded good so I am a happy bunny! Edited to get Nicks name right!

This was my first gig back with my old band after a two year break, funnily enough at the venue I played my last gig with them! It was a great night most people were happy to donate a little and listened when I explained what Neil and I were doing posing for photos and waving the Purple beauty about (now now, keep your naughty thoughts to yourselves!). The PB is now in Nottingham awaiting it's next adventure. I am happy to drive anywhere in the country ,with enough notice, to hand it over, so please offer your services....lets keep this going! Regards Ray
