1.
First time for me at the other of the two monthly 'residencies' the band I've hooked up with play. This is the H2O bar in Hucknall, Notts. Very modern one room sports bar, big TV's everywhere showing football etc. Painfully loud in house music system. Had to laugh when we were asked to turn down for the second set (which we did) then they put the in house music on again until closing time which was far louder than we'd been even in the first set. Tiny stage area to set up again. I was considering suggesting me bringing the midi pedals to fill out the sound but on the evidence of the 3 gigs I've done so far I doubt they play stages big enough to sensibly accomodate them. Oh well, their loss. Also due to the frontman wanting to hog centre stage I was continually being shoved closer and closer to one of the PA speakers until I was hitting the headstock againt it while also being blinded by an upfacing LED. Got so distracted with it I muffed the solo to My Generation.
The joys of playing with the Nathan Wall band Only Joking !....I have always enjoyed playing with them, the last time(xmas eve at the Vollo) it was the guitarists first ever gig with him,the drummers first for three months and my first since I had played twice with his band two years previously!!! He gets lots of work so must be doing something right.
2.
Did someone mention waistcoats? Look, it was a blues rock band OK?...
That's the Lion Inn at Basford and I claim my free pint of Bass
3.
Nice story - I hope it progresses well. I've been playing in two bands for the past 3-4 years but there are also various 'bits on the side' going on - of the musical type! Two of the guys in one band regularly play acoustic duos locally. Myself and a guitarist from each band have jammed a few times together. One of the guitarist also does a sort of comedy uke act and I've played on, recorded and produced a CD of his songs. It all adds a bit of variety.
In a similar vein.... I was in a five piece band when i lived in Tenerife I also was in a duo with the singer....and.... a duo with the drummer (he played guitar).......and........ a duo with the keyboard player....and.... A trio with the drummer and the keyboard player... The drummer played solo(as a guitarist obviously )....so did the singer ... The singer and the lead guitarist played as a duo....I occcaisionally "guested "with them ... we all played with "other" musicians in various line ups ..... It was what we did to earn a living ..... It also was great fun..... It also lead to me being able to play a bass line ....think about a new bass line to the same song...and then playing it ...and singing ( well I called it singinig ).....and wondering what I was going to have for supper ....all at the same time!!! All of this ot drivel is just to say .....go for it ....what doesn't kill you makes you stronger
4. It sounds like you are thrilled to bits.....and that's what counts.....Lifes too short to worry about stroppy singers Enjoy yourself. Best of luck Ray
5.
and tobacco burst vinyl flooring to boot , of which I had the same pattern but in white with grey diamonds.
Didn't everyone have that pattern flooring?....mine was white/grey too Oh ...........it's not me either!
6.
It was about 8 years old, which by the standards of the earlier Line 6 stuff is basically antique
Fair enough! I see you are a Stokie...well live there at any rate!.. I am playing at The crown in Red Street on Saturday...not that well known as a music pub but it's my old Local. Have you played at The Museum in the last 4 years? ...chances are I would have seen you play,I love the bands that play in there!
7. Now you see I can understand a HH being described as "very old" but Line 6 ? ........I must be getting old........ Mind you My first bands PA was a 100w Miles Platting
8. Search ...."studio clear out 15000"....I used Google ( other search engines are available ) and click on the Loot listing ... It tells you what he is selling and that he is leaving the country. Do the mods on here (and gearslutz etc) that have pulled the ad know something we don't? Just curious .....I am NOT trying to get at the mods.....I wish I had £15,000

13. I just want to let anybody who is interested know that i have just fitted a new scratchplate to my 1990 MIJ precision..... I bought it via E-bay from Guitars Electric... great people to deal with by the way ...now to my point Their "blurb" says..."designed to fit Mexican and USA made basses"...Well it fit my Japanese made one perfectly I thought it was worth risking fifteen quidish to find out!
14. Thanks Bluejay....I think I managed some of that there 'tinternet voodoo and its on the Basschat page now
15. There was a photo of their van posted on facebook....I shared it....I will go and "friend" basschat and share again. Being the useless Ludite that I am I don't know how to do this ....oh well I am sure you are all clever enough to find it for yourselves if you want to.
16. I would say the bass on coldplays' fix you is prety integral to the sound and feel of the song....I actually quite like cold play and U2...I think the bass just "fits" ........ having played in a Stereophonics tribute band where i refused to copy the original bass lines because they were so boring, I suppose I could nominate Richaed Jones as one who is "poor" However what he plays fits the songs also ..and I heard him being interviewed once and he said he played what he thought was a "blinding bass line" to wireless radio in the studio but Kelly Jones hated it and made him play root notes .... So who knows your "poor" bass player may just be following orders!
17.
You might have to practice your dance moves
Oh it's ok ...I'm a Dad....I can do dancin'....
18. Our singer sent me a message saying she really wants to do this song ....at a showcase we are doing on the 12th Jan, so could i look at it .....never heard of it as i am a boring old fart that listens to planet Rock Glad to hear its an easy bass line ...I guess I have to hit youtube
19. I only ever wanted to play Bass....just liked the sound/feel of it.....I bought a guitar from a catalogue and took the two thin strings off I loved Budgie and remember the Eureka moment when I copied Burke's line to baby please don't go....Finally I managed to play a song. So it's Burke Shelly for me ...
20.
Bit of a cheek expecting people to come along for free . . . even worse expecting them to pay for the privilege.
21. All the usual "classic rock" stuff for anyone that likes that sort of thing. Come and say hi . Cheers Ray
22. White horse Harborne, Brum tomorrow if anyone is free and wants to say hello!
23. I play for free every gig lately... .oh we get paid but as i live in Nottingham and the gigs are in Coventry or Birmingham I book a hotel so that I can have a beer or three! so petrol.beer,hotel....much more than the 50 quid I get from the gig....but my girlfriend ( I want to wite.. comes with me... here but I know what you lot are like ) goes to the gigs too and we just treat it as a night out
24. Just browsing this thread and drooling over all the 50's p basses I have just realised that I kinda have a birth year bass and had never realised the significance! Back in 1992 (I think) I bought, new,my current p bass a japanese '57 reissue, Black with white scratch plate and maple neck...the serial number says it was made in 1989 but thats just confusing !!.......I love it even if it is very "neck heavy" ......It's the closest I will ever get to a 1957 bass!
