1.
I think since hes paying the wages he has a say. Funny though. I know of guitar shops that ban certain tunes - first time i have heard of a pub banning songs!
I use this in my derranged waffling when introducing Smoke on the water and Born to be wild at our gigs ..... I tell them I don't care if any of them own a guitar shop ..we like playing them!!!!......surprisingly it does get a chuckle from the audience.(though secretly I am mighty sick of playing them!!!)

6. I'm glad you found a new home for it Mr Happy....I spent my weekend in sunny Stoke-on-Trent instead of traversing the southern counties!!!!!
7. Some of my Mums' ashes were scattered in the sea at Bexhill....she lived there as a young girl.......I really Liked that area of the south coast.......Not that what I think matters ...it just made me think of mum!

9. Hi folks newbie here...my band Delta (sometimes The Fix ...we can't decide!) Are playing at the white horse on Saturday. http://www.whitehorseharborne.com/home.html Great pub, fine ales and an ok band We play covers ...from Tina Turner through to Black Sabbath so there should be something you like! If you are in the area and don't have a gig come and say hi. Cheers Ray
10. If the darn 'lympics thingy wasn't on then the charity sheild would have been at Wembley.... instead of Villa Park ....and I could have come down to get this!.....I knew it was 9 billion wasted!!!
11. Never worked it out ...so let me try! 1975 played for a year ave 2 per week...........100 Met future wife sold gear had kids 1985 joined friends originals rock band ,,,,,,,,, 50 split after just under a year sold gear AGAIN! split from wife bought new gear 1991 joined a band ave 1 a week for four years..200 1995-1996 lived in tenerife ....karaoke compere 1996-2005 three bands ave 1a week..............450 (ish) Second marriage split...did not sell gear 2005 -2008 lived in Tenerife played for two years anything from 0-4 gigs a week ...around200 back to UK joined current band in 2009 but only about ........20 gigs So lets see thats 800 plus gigs as A bass player ...plus too many as a karaoke compare ....and I did some tour manager type stuff and DJ ing Makes me sound quite good but it's mostly been laughs and giggles and a bit of money ! The only time I made a (relatively poor) living from my bass was in Tenerife My favourite gigs were the ones I did at Rock city ..on the main stage ...in Nottingham, only charity gigs playing in a Stereophonics tribute band but a Life long ambition! Sorry for the boring life story but I had genuinely not thought about how many gigs I had played and I had fun working it out!

Regards Ray
13.
Sorry to read that mate, my wife was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year, it's a horrible illness, she's in constant pain.
Thanks mate all the best to you and your poor wife. As for the OP.....the majority of replies seem to be saying set goals and keep playing....easy if you are not stuck inside your own head with depression.....lets keep up the encouragement, depression is a horrible stae and he needs all the help we can give to keep making music.
14. I can empathise with you here.I have not been diagnosed with depression but I do have Fibromyalgia; a symptom of which can be depression along with all the other stuff I have to live with(not looking for sympathy here its just a fact of life for me). I too "can't be bothered" to practice etc and sometimes think I should give up but I am lucky,I play in a band ,we do not gig very often ....every six weeks or so...but that gives me the incentive to get off my backside and play! The other band members were great when I tried to leave due to beeing tired and in pain after gigs ,they all said they wanted me to stay and do not book too many gigs so that I can cope.... Any chance you could join/form a band? I know it would take a massive effort on your part but if you manage to get the right people it's amazing how focused you can become when there is a gig on the horizon. Just try to keep going ,music is a fabulous therapy.Good look for the future.
15. First saw this thread at 3.30 this morning when I could not sleep and thought What a pity ....I am new on here but remember your post at how excited you were to be in a band......After managing to get to sleep at 8.00 am I have now awoken to find the situation is resolved ...EXCELLENT !..... for my two pennath........My band has tried a second guitarist and then a keyboard player and yes we could play some other "fuller sounding" songs but in the end we stuck with guitar bass and drums (plus a fab female vocalist) because it just "works". Good luck with your new(ish) band
16. I only have one bass......1989 MIJ P that I bought new for around £450.00. I drool over many more expenxive ones but I just love the sound I get!...........By the way the serial number says it was made in 1988/1989 but I bought it brand new from the shop in 1992/1993 I assume it took a while to sell!!!
17. Well now with my new warwick bass and Orange rig I will be very happy that I joined basschat
18. This has inspired me to make my first post....I have just found out that I have been a member since last August! Tina for me ....I think the first guy is amazing, but i just do not see the point of it ......you might as well just use a guitar and leave the bass line to somebody who knows how to use it ...John Paul Jones perhaps?
